THE WORST!  The WORST airport car rental desk in the KNOWN WORLD!  Mean, dumb, snarky, and absolutely clueless staff.  Like other reviewers noted, even if you're Gold Club, even if every other Hertz desk in the world is great, there is a dark, black vortex at General Mitchell Airport.  Don't rent here; you are in for a million hassles.

Wow. I've been pampered with renting from Enterprise at MKE.

I had to rent from Hertz this week because I was planning on returning it to another location.
1. I understand that I am Gold and they want to keep things efficient, but I hate not having a choice in cars and I hate the fact that they don't tell me about my charges BEFORE I roll through the exit. I was surprised by my charges at the exit kiosk and had to park off to the side and walk back to talk to the guy there because the normal kiosk was closed. Sketchy
2. The website charges were not "accurate" and I was surprised by a one way mileage charge even under my corporate plan. They clearly need to update their systems. That said, the guy manning the exit kiosk was pretty helpful in explaining to me the charges, which is why I am giving Hertz a 2-star here.
3. The car that I got was a 2012 Nissan Versa with 57K miles on it. It was disgusting and filthy inside. It smelled like stale cigarettes and there was dust and grime in every crevice. Why is this car still on the lot? I've had better rentals from DOLLAR rental which costs 1/2 as much

The only positive of this place was that I did not have to wait at all. But I suppose that's more the perk of being a corporate traveler. I will not be booking through Hertz again

I always rent cars from Hertz because I'm a Gold Club member and it's nice and easy--except in Milwaukee. Seriously, I think they put the cars as far away as possible with the least convenient way to get to them. I usually take one of the Gold choice cars up front because it already is such a long freaking walk just to get to them. Add on even more if I have to go to the car to which I am assigned.
I've never had a 100% clean car from this place. This one I have now is relatively clean, but some papers were left behind in it.
When checking out, there was a long, long line. Usually, at every other airport in the country, they can just check me out and zip, zip. Not here. Wait, wait and wait some more.

I hope someone does something about this place. I have never experienced worse customer service at a car rental company than I have this particular Hertz location. I am a Gold member and I'm almost embarrassed  saying that. They lost my reservation, didn't have a car ready for me, and I was treated like a pain in the a**, not a loyal customer. It takes forever to even get to the rental area, it's dangerous, dark, the signs are terrible, and it makes no sense to make the Gold members walk through dark halls, up stairs, and to a dilapidated parking structure with horrible customer service. Regular hertz members have a front desk with all the other car rental companies. If I could give this 0 stars I would.

Is anyone surprised that I am adding another negative review? Told them the day I picked up the car that I would probably be two hours late returning the car. They gave me literal hell for an entire week. Wanted to charge me for an additional 24 hours instead of just giving their customer a break over a couple hours. They endlessly talked about the importance of "following company policy." Joseph Groppi, the site manager, fought me even after the other manager indicated that she would "make an exception." I am confused: what's more important: Fighting a customer to "adhere to policy" or make an accommodation so a customer can walk away satisfied? Good job. You follow company policy. Now, guess who is NEVER going to rent from Hertz again? And guess who is going to tell all his friends not to rent from Hertz either. I have rented many cars from many companies; and never was I given so much crap for being a few hours late. Hertz is truly pathetic.

I would give -5 stars if I could.  After you return your car, they do not close the account and keep putting charges on your credit card as if you never returned the car.   I called the national 800-number and was told only the manager at the location can close it, and when I called I was told the manager was too busy to speak with me.  The woman offered to help me and then proceeded to put me on hold for over 30 minutes.  I hung up and called the national one 800-number again.  They told me they couldn't help me but would send an email to them.  I told them if they did not take care of the situation promptly, I was going to cancel my credit card and dispute the charge and they would not see a dime.  We'll see what happens.  I will never use them again.  Thieves.

More like ZERO stars. The wait took forever. All the cars smelled like cigarettes. The employees clearly hate the public. I will never rent from this POS place again.

If I could award Hertz Milwaukee International Airport no stars, I certainly would, because I never actually ended up renting my car.  Please, save yourself the misery and indignity of trying to rent with these jokers.  To make a long story short, I have a confirmed reservation for 8 p.m. for a compact car.  I arrived at 8:30 due to a delayed flight.  The agent muttered to his co-worker while I was waiting in line that he wanted to go to the back area to clean cares so he would not have to "deal with these people" anymore.  After the agent informed me that there were no vehicles in the class I wanted, and that he could not upgrade me without charging me double the price, I asked to speak to a manager.  When no manager could ever be bothered to come, I called Hertz customer service.  My wife also called customer service.  No one would help me, even though they admitted we should have been upgraded to an available vehicle.  The agent told me that he had not been put on the wait list because he I had asked for the upgrade instead, so he was literally giving cars in my class to people who arrived after me with later reservations.  He said I should learn to be nicer to customer agents, so he had not placed me on the "wait list" (not sure what that means even).  All of this took well over an hour, during which I also went to the back lot to try to find the manager, and was told by a teenager with a Hertz uniform, that she would sent the manager to the front desk.  No manager ever arrived.  When I became--I think understandably--irate at the situation, he threated to call the Sheriff.  At that point I welcomed the idea of talking to any potentially rational person, but my wife had already arranged for her sister to drive the 40 minutes to taxi us home.  I certainly learned a lesson (probably not the one he intended): never, ever rely on Hertz again.

Waiting. Waiting. Still waiting. That's precisely what you should prepare for when trying to pick-up a Hertz Rental car at the MKE Airport that you incidentally reserved a week ago.

Upon arriving at the counter everyone, including yours truly - dispute my warm smile and pleasant attitude, was told "So sorry, your reserved car isn't here. And there's an hour wait - so go ahead and have a seat." When I asked if the car was even in their lot they dryly responded that it hasn't even been returned. Of course you can upgrade to a premium car or take the one pick-up truck they have left if your willing to shell out more cash. Smells like classic bait and switch to me. And don't even bother suggesting they put you in an upgrade for the same price unless you enjoy hearing chuckles and laughter at your expense.

Advice? Take a pass on these Hertz jokers.

Probably one of the most inefficient car rental experiences I've ever had. The ladies working at the front desk were extremely nice, however it took them forever to find a car available even though I had made a reservation. Then I waited for over thirty minutes for someone to retrieve the car and bring it to the area I was told to pick it up. Apparently they park some of the cars off site and have to drive them over... Which makes no sense to me since I saw about twenty other people hop into cars parked here in the airport lot. Probably would never recommend Hertz to someone flying into Milwaukee. Especially not to someone who's in a time crunch.

.5 of one star for Hertz at the Mitchell airport (MKE). Zero cars in their inventory during a work week and a polite, "it could take up to 45 minutes until we have a car...any car." Translation: the Six Sigma Idea Ferry went richter on "running lean" by reducing the inventory available to rent while accepting as many reservations as possible." I wish some common sense were being applied at the top because Hertz has just earned the coveted "circus clown car rental company of the year."

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ
They lie
They don't care
And they won't have your car ready.  Trust me, we had a confirmed GOLD reservation and when we arrived, the Gold counter was empty, there was no one around and there was no car for us.  We had to nag and complain and harangue and wait an hour for a vehicle - not the one we reserved, and no Never Lost.  And they don't care.  Corporate didn't care either.  BEANS ON THEM, I AM SWITCHING TO AVIS.
