Reviews on Horizon Ford Truck Center

They charge $200 PER ITEM for a diagnostic.  And this was for an in warranty repair!   Bought my 2013 ford explorer limited here,  so I thought I would use their service department.  A year later and it won't register me putting it into park.   There is also times that it forgets my seat setting abs I have to reset it.   Both of these fall under my warranty,  but they wanted $400 just to look at it!   That is ridiculous for a diagnostic,  let alone one under warranty!   I called Sound Ford on my way out and they told me it should be no charge if under warranty!   Good thing I double checked because Horizon told me it's the same at every ford dealer.   Liars.  DON'T GO HERE FOR ANY REPAIRS!

I bought a car from them at one of their auctions. I started having transmission problems the next day. Then the alternator started going bad. it was a mercury sable.
I don't recommend buying a car from them.

Stephen was by far the nicest and most helpful person I have every met. I had the privilege of working with him several times, and each time he was more than willing to go out of his way to assist me. I had gone to several car dealerships for a couple weeks, and none of their workers had his customer service skills. He went well above and beyond what was expected of him, which is why I felt more than comfortable purchasing a car from this dealership.  Would highly recommend purchasing from here.

Terrible service on trucks. They used to be good on diesels but have slipped dramatically. They had my truck for weeks, piled on unnecessary repairs, and did the job poorly. they even broke stuff that worked when I dropped it off. When asked what happened to their service level, they said they were too busy...

Jeff C. | 2014-09-19

DO NOT take your vehicle to Horizon Ford for maintenance.

Horrible customer service (do not call to inform you on estimated time, parts, etc) no loaner cars available.

Had a power steering issue and it has now been two weeks and it still has not been fixed.

Adam J. | 2014-09-06

Got an oil change and recall work done here. I'm not overly impressed with their time estimations but they were only out by 2 hours. Nice staff, a bit pricy, not very well kept facility but not a bad place.

blake d. | 2014-08-16

Crooks. Everything that comes out of their mouths are lies. Do not buy any vehicles from them

Cecil J. | 2014-08-04

Horrible place   Nobody returns your calls and not very helpful. I filled out an application online and called the office and they said they can't do anything until a certain person comes back to work. Can't believe this lace is still around. Two thumbs down

Horizon Ford is misleading and corrupt because of the methods used to gain business. They are dishonest because they give false information and lead a person to believe Horizon will negotiate. I went to buy a vehicle from Horizon and I asked the salesperson if they would negotiate the price and told him what I needed. He agreed to lower the price so that I could afford it, but once I gave my information to check my credit. He denied agreeing to such price and quoted me a much higher price, than what had been agree. I believe this is a breech of verbal contract and should not be tolerated by anyone. I would recommend for others to avoid Horizon Ford and shop elsewhere due to the misleading information given by the sales people. In short this company will waste your time and will not negotiate prices.

I recently Purchased a 2007 Infiniti M35X From Horizon Ford,  Unlike other Dealers I have worked with in the past, they made the purchasing process less stressful. The salesman Steve  was inviting and focused on getting me a loan that worked for me and my family.  I dont normally post reviews however felt that they earned my business and will again in the future.............

  Not so Bitter

UPDATE:   I had mentioned the engine running rough to the on-site technician who said the [sic] computer had to reset itself following the fuel pump replacement.  (A B.S. response if ever there was one but I bought it).  Since this is a motorhome I did not have occasion to drive it until yesterday.  Well, the engine sounds like a Harley with a cough.  It's loping badly and won't hold an idle.  I'm no mechanic but it's clearly some kind of combustion issue that did not exist before the fuel pump replacement.

Of course, they want me to bring it back in but will take two days to diagnose and who knows how long to repair.  I have already cancelled one trip for this and now it looks as if I will have to cancel another.

Believe me, if it weren't for the fact that this is clearly a warranty issue I would be taking it elsewhere.  No confidence.

When I was upgrading my rear brakes (I went with drilled and slotted heavy duty rotors and pads), I noticed that one or my rear traction leaf bushings was missing. I decided to order a set from Horizon Ford for $32 shipped. Well, the package came and inside, the bag containing them was cut open and one of them was removed.

I called them up to let them know and they told me that is how they do it. If I wanted both, that I would have to spend another $32 to get another. I asked why the part number is on a bag that says "ONE PKG OF 2 PCS" and he said that they open them up and then resell them individually. I expressed my displeasure with being misled by that because the package was supposed to contain 2 pieces and, had they noted that on their website, I would not have ordered it (I since ordered an Energy Suspension SET for $29.83 shipped).

Not only that, but I had to ship the one bushing back to them to get a refund, as I could not even return it to a local Ford dealer because the bottom of the package says "THIS PACKAGE CANNOT BE RETURNED IF OPENED"

However, in the future, I will consider using Horizon Ford if I need to order one brake pad or just the passenger side of an intake manifold gasket set.

Maybe one day they will get into other businesses and I can buy a single AA battery or one slice of bread

Hands down, best car buying experience I've ever had.  They demonstrated a sincere desire to help me get what I wanted (and I did) with honesty and integrity - and a sense of humor!  The day before I picked up my new car, I wrecked my trade in car.  It could have gone VERY wrong for me - but that was exactly the opposite of what happened.  They had me take my car to their auto body shop for an estimate then had me come in and pick up my new car.  They handled working with my insurance company and everything.  I was so impressed!  What a relief it was.  I wholeheartedly recommend these guys.  My sales rep was Curtis Martin and he was amazing.  All the guys there were fab.  Go. There. =)

Steve P. | 2013-09-06

Misleading and dishonest shop.
I was told over the phone the car I was interested in had options that it did not have. Was also told it was a dealer owned (new with miles) car, but it wasn't so I couldn't get the ford financing at time of paperwork. They with-held one key and tried to charge me twice the dealer price to get it. They also included extra charges in the paper work that we agreed wouldn't be added or would be included in negotiated price. They also promised to detail the car, but they didn't. As other reviews stated, the communication between the sales person and the back office is either very poor, or they use miscommunication as an excuse for including extra charges and not including things with car that were in agreement. I won't do business with them again, and don't recommend them.

If you're looking to buy a car from Horizon Ford's Public Auction lot, let me be a horrible warning for you.

I bought a car from them in July 2012. I would never go there again.
The day after I bought it the check engine light came on. They had cleared the computer just long enough to get the thing off their hands.  I found out yesterday (yes the check engine light has been on for a year because I had to buy new tires and replace the front brakes first).
To get my tabs renewed I had to get an emissions test. It failed. Its now going to cost me about $1600 to replace the computer and the other sensors that aren't functioning in order to pass the emissions test.
My mistake, not having an independent garage check the car over first. So buyers beware.

I cannot say enough about these guys.  If I could give them 10 stars, I would.

I took my 2007 Ford Five Hundred in for service which had been diagnosed by my now former mechanic (Courtesy Tire on Capitol Hill). Courtesy Tire's $1300 estimate included a front end brake job, front end alignment, and four new tires.  I was dumbfounded concerning the tires, which they claimed were threadbare on the inside wall - they only had about 25000 miles on them.  I thought I would take the car into Les Schwab since the tires were still under warranty, but the tire invoice had disappeared from my repair log which was kept in the glove box.

A few weeks went by and I started to notice that my front tires were losing air pressure, and at times I was hearing a slight grinding sound when I backing out of my driveway morning.  At this point, I basically stopped driving the car because I could not afford all of these repairs.

Two months later, I took my car into Horizon Ford to finally have these three issues fixed.  This was my first time with Horizon, but they quoted lower prices on the tires and alignment than my regular mechanic, so I went for it.  To my surprise, about 30 minutes later Matt (the service guy) emerged from the shop and told me he had "good news".  It always scares me when mechanics say that... because they usually have bad news to follow... but not this time.

My brakes were fine and had about 15000 miles of life left in them.
My alignment and tow adjust also checked fine.
My rear tires were in great condition.  No wear whatsoever.

My front tires... well, they were a mess... and everyone was scratching their heads trying to figure out how they could have worn so unevenly.   Once I put two and two together, I knew why.  Those weren't my tires... at least they weren't three months ago when someone (who I will not name) switched them out.

Horizon could have taken me for the same ride that my ex-mechanic had tried to pull on me, and I would have been none the wiser.  But they did the right thing and  ultimately saved me over $800 in unnecessary repairs.

I will never again take my cars anywhere else for service.

Twice in the last two months my cell phone has received a recorded robo call from the service department at Horizon Ford. The latest was advertising windshield wipers. After the first robo call I asked them to take my name off thier call list. You can imagine that I will never do any more business with this firm.

Would not recommend service at this location. SInce it is closest to my home I have practiced patience far beyond what I should have. I have a 2003 Ranger which I purchased new and still has less than 29,000 miles on it. I have been diligent in changing the oil on a calendar basis however have gradually lengthened the time between services due to lack of confidence in the service. I have a very busy career and cannot make multiple trips to Horizon every time for things as simple as an oil change.

The most memorable:
1. Oil change- by the time I returned home the radiator fluids had drained out due to a split Y hose the dealer said was a parts defect. Strange it failed then. The car makes noises until it warms up now which I assume is the water pump having been damaged from the low fluids and it has grown steadily worse since. (It is now to the point of embarrassment that I am taking it to another shop to diagnose and replace. )
2. Oil change- dealer broke the fuel pump due to what they said was a shoddy plastic clip AND they charged me for it.
3. Recently replaced a blinker which had been previously replaced by Horizon and noted the clip for the light had been broken.
4. Oil change and rear brakes- called to tell me it was ready but it wasn't started. I waited while I suspect they sped through the process. The brakes squealed for two months and and continue to squeal occasionally. The car also reeked of burnt oil by the time I returned home and a pool of oil formed below my car in my garage. I checked the level which looked normal and I suspect the tech spilled oil over my engine. It still smells of burnt oil if I drive more than five miles although it has been several months.
My truck looks like brand new and has only 29k on the mechanics but it sounds and smells like a 200+k vehicle. This is a vehicle I expected to keep for a long time for convenience, due to these experiences I will be taking the truck to another dealer for a thorough check and I will be selling the truck as soon as I rectify these issues. I will no longer purchase any Ford vehicles. I strongly advise anyone with Ford needs to be cautious and rigorous about assuring you get the correct services.

Promises, promises:

Sales Department and the rest are not in sync (no communication).

-My mother bought a new car. She paid for an extra key (expensive). They never delivered the key but still have her money.
- Promised to detail the car before she drove off, they didn't. Dirt on carpet, dirty windows in and out, and grease on the back seat.
-Brand new car with scratches all over windshield, felt like criminals when the boss came to take a look. Finally he admitted his eyes weren't so good, but that was after he told us all the windshields look like that.

Filing police report next week if they don't give her the key she paid for or refund her money.

Poor service usually trickles down from management. This place is not running like a top. I am shopping for my next Ford, but not at that sales lot. Avoid Horizon unless you like to be a victim.

Eric M. | 2012-10-20

We just bought a new Ford Flex from Matt and Michael at Horizon after looking at cars from a number of other dealers.  First, Matt was knowledgeable about the car -- yeah, one would expect this would be selling 101, but in all our other travels to dealers we only encountered one other knowledgeable sales guy.  Second, Matt and Michael are easy to work with in terms of negotiating a fair deal.  I would highly recommend Horizon for anyone looking for a new Ford.  They are a smaller operation but WAY more pleasant to deal with than bigger places like Bill Pierre Ford -- there we got a less than knowledgeable sales person and high pressure negotiating tactics, including having to negotiate with the sales person, the sales manager and the dealer manager -- we ended up walking away.  Glad we landed at Horizon.

Dear Service Manager and General Manager:

I am writing to detail my recent service experience.

I had a blinker relay replaced a month ago.  It took one hour for diagnosis and repair.  I was satisfied.

I scheduled a 9:00 visit to repeat the same job after the 13350 failed again.  I asked them to diagnose to see if there is any cause for this but stated clearly that replacing the 13350 was clearly the needed repair.
I stated that I would wait for the vehicle, knowing it would be a quick job and I had an appt.  I said I would go for a walk and please call me when finished.
Two hours and thirty minutes later I called Bob Hansen and asked if it was done.  He said yes.  I asked how long it had been done.  He stated 20-25 minutes and that he had been very busy on the phones.  I returned in three minutes and was told he was "out to lunch".

It took two hours to replace a relay (glorified fuse) that we knew initially was the problem.  I don't believe this is true.
I was not called at any point after completion and Bob knew I was waiting to start my work day.
There was no diagnosis performed.

The reason I am writing is that this is a very consistent process with your shop.  Out of the last five times I was promised a phone call from your CSR's Dale and Bob, I have received ONE.  On the last visit I reported that I had used the truck heavy in the desert and in the woods.  I wanted them to lubricate any of the 4x4 system and anything else that needed it.  They ignored this also asked for diagnosis on any other needed repairs along with flushing the tranny and fixing the AC.  They flushed the tranny, fixed the AC, and replaced marker lights.  I had to call each time to verify progress over four days.  No diagnosis, no lubrication, no 4x4 attention paid.  I would imagine you lost over a thousand dollars that day.

I am guessing they take great care of your corporate customers.  They treated me horribly.  What is unfortunate is that my business owns 5 Ford trucks that we need regular maintenance on.  A '72, '88, '99, '99, '02, and an '03.  I regularly try the shop again and always receive the bare minimum and unprofessional treatment from your CSR's.  You are losing roughly $5-6000 on an average year for no reason than lazy and unprofessional CSRs.
If my employees showed this blatant lack of respect and integrity I would want to know about it.  In fact I have let people go for less.  I value my clients more than anything and expect the same from my employees.  That is how I continue to create an ever expanding business and profit margin.  Respect, professionalism, and integrity. I would guess you feel the same.

I will return in when I learn you will have at least one new CSR that can be trusted to act like a pro and treat people with respect.  I trust your shop.  Not your customer service.

Do not take your vehicle here for servicing unless you can afford to be without it for a few weeks and don't mind a complete lack of communication.

I took my '01 Explorer Sport Trac in for a check engine light and to address an issue with the power rear sliding window which would open, but only close to the "vent" position.

I tried scheduling an appointment online; that didn't work, but a phone appointment did the trick. I showed up for my scheduled appointment at 7:30 AM Wednesday...  Having not heard from them the entire day, I called for an update and was told they had only diagnosed the check engine light, but had not made any repairs.  If you've ever had your emissions checked by the state, you will know that checking fault codes takes all of 15 minutes.  I agreed to leave it with them for another day.  End of Thursday and still no progress and no communication aside from me calling them.  I needed the truck for the weekend and so picked it up without having the repairs done.

I should have stopped here, but returned the Truck the following Wednesday morning.... Friday afternoon rolls around and I call them after their failure to communicate and they haven't done anything to my truck - Not quite accurate, as now my rear window won't even open and is permanently stuck in "vent" position.

The guys working the desk here are nice enough, but nice doesn't run a business.  I always blame the management when workers don't perform.  I only have the one vehicle and getting there and back in between work and the stress of not having a ride made this one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had.

I wish I could still go to Millennium Ford, never had a problem.

I was so impressed with Horizon Ford. I was getting ready to move from Seattle using a U-Haul trailer, when I found out I had some obscure part in my tow package that needed to be replaced so that the trailer lights would hook up to the U-Haul. The staff was incredibly helpful and helped me as I was in a time crunch to get all of my possessions out of my apartment and hit the road! They looked at my car in a very timely fashion, and kept me posted with the different tests they were running on it. Once they figured out which part needed to be replaced, they replaced it really quickly.  I was in and out of there much faster than I thought I would be and was so grateful for their assistance.

I must say, I've been having trouble finding a car, mainly because I have bad credit, a repossessed car and I really didn't have much money on me (literally 1k).
I've been let down before at other dealerships but Steve at Horizon Ford made my experience almost seamless.

When I applied online, I got a call that same day, he was flexible with my schedule, extremely understanding and even offered to meet me half way to get me to the dealership (I had to take the bus since I didn't have a car). He emailed me the following day as a reminder about our said date to meet and if I had any questions. I must've emailed him 4 or 5 times with different questions and he would reply back almost instantly!

Although I opted out of the ride and ended up finding a route that got me to the front of the door, I honestly walked in hopeless. Since I've been let down I just felt like, "Eh I'll do this, see what he got and then leave sad" But a part of me also had a good feeling that maybe he's the one that will help me today.

Well I was right! Although it wasn't a car that I would've chosen, the fact that I understood the terms of what it took to get approved I kinda felt that the pressure was off my shoulders.

Basically,  you apply for the loan and they turn in your information to the bank they are with, within 30 mins to an hour the bank comes back with a list of cars that you are approved of. I love that! I love that it tells me what cars will work based off of what I can afford! It was within my price range too and he worked with the down payment! It was seamless I tell you! And I felt no pressure to choose a car, because the cars were already chosen for me! Completely stress free!!

My only problem (as to why I didn't give them 5 stars) would be because the battery I had for the car wouldn't work, it required to be jump started. Although, Steve did an awesome job at helping me get a battery, it was something that he really went out of his way for, the fact that the company itself didn't' have the battery just let me down, but not Steve!

If Steve was a part of this rating I'd give him a 10! He was quick, knowledgeable, completely understanding, willing to put himself in the customers shoes and go out of his way!

Next time you stop by, make sure you ask for Steve Hunsaker!

Lori F. | 2011-02-18

This update is NOT a reflection on the staff here, they are super and go out of their way to be helpful to me through everything that's gone on the past few months. I'm still giving them three stars because of how much they went out of their way to help me with stuff...if it was just based on the cars it would be lower.

This is in regards to the cars on this particular lot. They are for the most part all auction cars, as I found out later on. They are not inspected or guaranteed...so you're taking your chances. The first car I got I had for two DAYS before the transmission went out and the car was undrivable. Despite the fact I had no warranty the staff  were very helpful and helped me get into another car, no issues taking back the old car and getting me into another one.

The second car I've had for a few months, the electronics were shot on it, but I knew this going in and that wasn't an issue. There was a slow drain on the battery through which made it keep dying if I didn't drive the car every day, and then the manifold went, once again leaving this car now undrivable without major repairs.

I know a lot of people who've had great success with auction cars, me not so much. So if you're just looking for a junker, or maybe parts or if you're one of those lucky people who has good luck with this type of car...the prices can't be beat and the staff is great. Just be warned sometimes you do get what you pay for.....

I have used this location twice. The first time for a license plate holder repair. After a few months the riveted license plate holder broke again.

More recently I dropped off my vehicle for service at this location and explained to the technician what the problem with the vehicle was. I also explained the cause of the the problem, however I personally could not diagnose where the origination of the cause was. Technician stated he would call the next day with the cost and repair scenerio for my truck's problem. 3 days later after he hadn't called,  I contacted him. He simply gave me back the diagnoses about my truck that I had given him. The repair would cost around $950. Since I am mechanically inclined I repaired the vehicle myself. for $125. I found this location to be highly unprofessional and sloppy in their service work.

eric w. | 2008-09-27

this is a service department review. overall, i had no complaints - the service staff is pretty friendly and dale volk does a good job of taking care of customers. i also didn't do any comparison shopping/service, so i have nothing to compare to.

i came in on a friday morning to get a checkup on my vehicle. i was helped by dale. i came back at around noon, and my car hadn't been worked on yet. i only planned on taking half a day off, so dale told me to bring it back on saturday morning and he'd make sure it'd be taken care of asap.

i came back saturday morning, and dale stayed true to his promise - i was in at 8am and out by 10:30am. he also knocked a little off the price.

Debbie S. | 2008-09-20

This review is for the service department only - I haven't bought a vehicle from them, so don't know about the sales department.

I bought a used RV on a Ford E350 chassis last year.  The previous owner had the maintenance done at Horizon, so I decided to go there also.  I am very pleased with them.   I find some of the service advisors a bit brusque, but they have never steered me wrong, and have never tried to sell me something I don't need.  When I've gone in there asking if I should have them do some service or another, if it's something I don't really need, or don't need yet, they'll tell me so.

I've also been very pleased with the services that they have done.  I feel 100% comfortable taking my RV there, knowing that they are both honest and very competent.

Can't comment on their comparative prices as this is the only place I've taken the RV for chassis/engine servicing.  I'm satisfied that they're  worth what they charge.
