Reviews on Sterling McCall Acura

Great experience! The thought of purchasing a new vehicle was so daunting to me. I went into the dealership cringing because I have driven the same car forever. I was immediately greeted by a polite and friendly staff. DAMMY ADEKOLA was my salesman. He did a wonderful job and was very helpful. I had a ton of questions and double checked  everything. One of my best purchases in a long time.
Pay attention on your way there, the dealership is off the feeder road, so don't miss it

Love their service department. Polite and prompt service, free coffee/tea bar.

I was in desperate need for a car, so i contacted Ken Trinh, one of the salesman.

I literally left with my car the day of.

Right when i told him i needed a car, he promptly searched up and gave me many suggestions. Within 30 minutes i saw the perfect car, he booked me into his schedule to come look at the car, and within an hour of negotiating a great deal, i drove off with my White Tsx.

His service, and the service of his colleagues is service worth bragging about. He was so helpful with my many questions.

Thank you so much for your help, and i will be sure to come back for more business!

Took my car in for a regular tune up myself. Instead, I walked out with a $3200 bill b/c I was told by Charlie Chea, the service advisor, that my clutch had to be replaced and recommended NOT to drive it for safety reasons. After discussing this with my husband, he contact Charlie Chea to find out exactly what was wrong. He basically was told by Charlie Chea that the reason it had to be replaced is because of repeatedly double clutching (aka dumping the clutch) which is associated with what you do when you race a car, which is completely ludacris. One, my husband is well aware of what double clutching is, two, I'm a 37 yr old female who drives a 4 cylinder TSX and third, has never raced a car in my life. My husband brought the car to another mechanic who is a certified Acura Honda mechanic for a second opinion and was told there was nothing wrong with the clutch and it had another 20-30k miles before It would even be an issue. I also wanted to change out my windshield wipers and was told the whole housing had to be changed out because of a missing part, just to find out today that it was a simple rubber replacement done by John Eagle Acura that took no less than 5 min. This is the first car I've purchased from Sterling McCall. My husband has bought countless cars and has sent many referrals to this dealership in the past. Considering all of this, we feel that this kind of practice is completely unethical and not acceptable because if you can't trust your dealership to do the right thing, who can you trust. This issue will be addressed in person by my husband when permitted. It is unfortunate that I have to write this kind of review because of the actions of a single person. Until this issue is addressed and resolved, we will no longer be doing business with this dealership.

We JUST finished up our purchase on our very first Acura (we've both had Hondas in the past)!!  Sunmin was our Sales Associate and she was/is AWESOME!  I highly recommend her!!  We really felt like she was trying to help us (and she proved that by going back and forth several times to the Sales Manager for us).  We had very specific/firm numbers, and she worked really hard!

William, the Sales Manager, actually came out and introduced himself, and we were really impressed by this.  We've typically experienced Sales Managers who will only stay in their offices.  William was/is very approachable.  We did shop the competition and did a TON of homework before going into any dealers.  We closed the deal on our second visit to Sterling McCall Acura - it was an easy choice to go with Sterling McCall because we were treated with so much respect (see my review for Gillman).

Our Finance Manager, Pablo, was super friendly.  He wasn't pushy about the additional warranty plans, but instead, was very informative... he did help us do a sort of 'create your own additional warranty' from what they offer in their packages (we mostly chose items that take care of cosmetics - door dings, leather repair, carpet stains, etc.).

Oh, and we had our toddler with us the whole time - gah!  ;-)  Not the most ideal 'customer' to bring along when you're car shopping - but everyone was super nice and played along with all of his questions, high-fives, and toddler silliness.  Thank you all!!  Sunmin you are the BEST!!!  We really appreciate you!

Although I don't currently own an Acura, my partner does and I've been to the dealership a few times with him--during the sales process, "after-sale" follow-up meeting and today for service on his vehicle.  Unlike my car's dealer, you can set an appt. online for an oil change and it was a pretty smooth process.  The drop-off was seamless: they took the car back, the service consultant tried to (unsucessfully) upsell me and a few hours later, the car was washed and the service was done.

The waiting area has a "business center" with a PC and printer, snacks and a coffee bar.  It helps that they had the obligatory WIFI connection so I could do some reading.  The person who checked me out was professional and courteous.  Even the sales staff took the time to show me a new model when I requested to do so.

Bought single owner acura mdx with 75k miles and on the same day returning home got airbags light. With in a month AC blowing hot air.

what a bummer! I am not sure they inspect vehicles before selling. The air bag light is a safety issue and dealership is not ever authorised to sell unsafe vehicle...not sure how to address this.

I am looking for additional car for my wife and wondering whether I need to ever go to this dealership again or recommend any. When reputed dealer like this sell broken vehicles like street dealers its time to move on to good ones.

WORST EXPERIENCE FROM SUCH A BIG DEALERSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I recently bought an 07 Acura TL at this location. It was not a certified car, so within a week and a half the gas cap light came on so I took it back to get serviced because I tried tightening it and did not work. After they checked the car the service manager calls me to give me a lengthy list of things they found wrong with the car, The gas cap light turned out to be a problem with the evaporator canister valve so that had to be replaced. Also they informed me that the front and side motor mounts were completely broken, also they said the car needed the timing belt replaced and that meant the water pump as well. Also the oil pump seals were leaking. This was a few dollars shy of a $1,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For a car I had just bought a couple weeks earlier!! I had not even made the first payment on the car and I already had a grand to invest in it. To make matters worse, the 'warranty' they sold me for the car (that I did not request and stupid mistake of mine that I just signed it when I bought the car) did not cover most of that work. They said they were 'pre-existing' conditions and would not be covered by the warranty!!!! Needless to say I was beyond LIVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After fighting with them and me doing my own research I learned an AS IS car is just that. BUT, I was told by mechanics, a lawyer, as well as the lady with the warranty company that this information about the lengthy problems with the car could have been disclosed by the sales person. I FELT BETRAYED AND TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF!!! I HAD TO PAY A GRAND ON A CAR I BOUGHT OFF THIS LOT WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS!!! I just hope others look carefully at what you are buying if it is a used car get it checked because they will want to charge you as much as they can once you take it off the lot.

The salesman switched cars on us. We knew by the brand tires. He refused to give us the car we originally wanted.and we let him know the day we got the car.
Car shifts awful until you reach 60 mph.  It is so bad it is almost like it is chugging. The service manager called me a liar and I was told by an assistant Service Manager that the car is "quirky"  I guess all 2012 Acura TL's are "quirky"   claimed they could not fix my car.

The customer service was outstanding.  Thanks Jan for all your help!  I worked with the business group on a vehicle for my parents.  My parents live outside the city limits from the dealership.  My parents were unable to purchase the car by traditional means, i.e coming into the dealership, test drive, sign paperwork, etc.  This really did not matter to Jan.  She was open, flexible, and made the experience a great one.   I've never thought of using Sterling McCall because they are so big and sometimes everyday folks are lost in BIG business.  She changed my mind.  When I ready to purchase my vehicle, I'll go there first.  Thanks again! ! !

This dealership is very useless! I traded in a car and it took them over a month to send my payoff. They were very unresponsive throughout the entire process as well and I would call and get to voicemail. I drove down there only to find the finance manager chatting in his office with colleagues and ignoring incoming call.

Best client service, plan on going back after a couple of years for my next car  as well, bought a 2011 RDX from them, get all my services done there.

Chris H. | 2013-08-15

I just bought a 2010 acura tl from somewhere else and wanted to get it checked out. I was greeted by Charlie. Awesome experience. Very professional, thorough, and very knowledgeable. I will definitely be back for all of my service needs. I was there at opening time so the crowd was light. I was in and out within an hour.
Great experience!

Annette T. | 2013-07-04

We were there for 45 minutes without any sales representative asking if we needed help looking for a car. I guess they did not want our business so we will be making our purchase elsewhere.

June M. | 2013-04-02

Purchased a car from them in 2012. The car has worked but for little things, their service department sucks.

My boyfriend recently bought an Infiniti at Southwest right next door, and we had a terrible time there. So, when it came time for me to start looking for a car, I was worried my experience would be just as bad, if not worse. Happy to say, it wasn't! I had a great experience at Sterling McCall. I went in to test drive a certified pre-owned RDX, and had the pleasure of working with Tim Wilson. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient, as I knit-picked the car down to the tiniest details. (They even had the exact car I wanted!) I wasn't planning on buying at that time, but after working with Tim he made me a fantastic offer. I was really worried that I was rushing into things, and Tim did something I didn't expect (being a salesman and all). He didn't push me at all, he gave me realistic expectations about what kind of interest rate I could expect, a rundown of monthly payments, then told me to think about it and call him when I was ready. I ran some numbers, and with all the information Tim gave me I decided it was in the books for me. He even threw in some all-weather mats for free! Tim made me feel really comfortable about such a big purchase, and looking back I'm glad I can say I don't regret bumping up my timeline because of Tim and his excellent advice.

Wow, pretty though to rate a car dealership 5 star, but we are on our 6th Acura and keep going back for the quality vehicles and service at Sterling McCall, particularly Beverly St. John.  Case in point, they made us an excellent deal in a 1994 Acura Legend, was an outstanding car, drove it 11 years to 130,000 miles.  Was still running well when we sold it, just needed some maintenance items, 2007 MDX with 92K miles still going strong.

I had the pleasure of going to the service department at Sterling McCall Acura last week.  I brought my Acura TL in for a warrantee issue.  I probably should have called ahead to book an appointment because it was busy, but they were willing to accommodate me.  My service advisor was extremely helpful (I just wish I could remember her name...)  The repairs were only going to take a couple of hours, but they still put me in a loaner car for the day because I had to get back to my office.  When I came back, they explained that they also saw that the battery needed replacing so that was done as well at no charge.  I was also pleased to see that my car was washed.  Overall, a great experience.  Sterling McCall Acura - I will be back!

I just bought a car from Sterling McCall and they have the same exceptional service as when I bought my last car there 10 years ago.  I shopped around with all the dealerships in town and I love that Mike Chan is not pushy nor aggressive like the rest.  In addition, he lets me know when things other dealerships offered are gimmicks, which I verified was true.  Mike offered me the best deal that is straight-forward and was always pleasant.

Having heard horror experiences from other dealerships where deals were changed at the pick-up time, I was so relieved to come pick up my car with the deal exactly as we agreed in our emails.  Mike's drive-out price was truly the drive-out price with absolutely no hidden costs.  The finance person just as courteous and never try to push the insurance on me.  They are a top-notch, trustworthy dealership and the only one I talked to who deliver on what they promise.

Poor Acura in dire need of a recent / updated review.  Bought my TSX from these guys 7 years ago.

Recently brought my car in to service after a cross country return back to Houston.  As always, EXCELLENT service, from the people on the phone to the guy who opened the door to the service representative to the follow up call afterwards to ask about my satisfaction with the visit.

The waiting lounge is very new, stocked with Otis muffins, coffee, chilled bottled water, flat screen TVs, etc.

Got my oil changed, exterior washed (comes with the upgraded oil change.. which I usually don't go for but I just had it shipped 2,500 miles), AND state inspection done all in a few hours.

Really, no complaints here.

OH!  Also - TIP, when you do pull up to the service door, it is a bit confusing at first.  You can pull up if the driveway is empty, or just park anywhere near and give them your keys.  Not a big deal.

A week before bringing in my girlfriend's TSX for service, I got the battery replaced at Autozone.  They ran their test which indicated that the alternator was toast.  The battery was only putting out 12 volts while the car was on.  It should've been putting out 13-14 volts.  Simple fix, I thought...

So, without much hesitation, I called Sterling McCall Acura after reading the positive reviews on Google Maps.  Beverly, who was extremely nice, said it'd be fine if I brought in my car and drop it off for the weekend.

A few days later, I get a call from Beverly.  Supposedly, my alternator checked out fine.  They suggested that the power draw was a result of a bad battery or the aftermarket amplifier.  Well, they didn't know that the battery was BRAND NEW and that the amplifier ran fine for 5 years with NO PROBLEMS.  They asked if I wanted a new battery.  I immediately refused and told them that I'd take it back to Autozone to get it tested.

I picked up the car the next day.  Glen was kind enough to give me a jump.  Beverly said the car would be fine to drive as long as I didn't stop anywhere.  Since the alternator was 'fine,' the battery would charge up over time.  They pull out the car and as I get in, my gauges start flickering.  Shortly afterward, the car dies.  I'm not a car expert, but I've had my share of alternators go bad on me in the past.  Even without a voltmeter, I could've figured out that it was a bad alternator!

Now with a drained battery and a car with a dead alternator, I had limited options.  I refused to buy a battery from Acura because I knew the 2-week old battery was still good.  I pulled it from the car and took it to Autozone off Belfort and Beltway 8.  The rep charged it up for 30 minutes, ran a test and told me the battery was fine... just as I had suspected.

I brought the charged battery back to Sterling McCall and installed it with Glen's help (he was nice, btw).  After getting the car started, I immediately headed back to Autozone to get another diagnosis.  'Bad alternator' he said.  'I'm positive.  Your car is only putting out 12 volts with the ignition on.  It won't last much longer.'

Luckily, Autozone had a replacement in stock for $150 (I would've paid $500+ if I had let Sterling McCall rip me off).  I had the alternator installed shortly afterward and lo and behold... NO MORE PROBLEMS.  The car was putting out 14 volts with the new alternator.

Case in point: if you have a bad battery or bad alternator, do not take it to Sterling McCall.  DO NOT buy a new battery from them.  Buy it from Autozone instead.  A common tactic of dealers for alternator issues is to tell you your battery is bad.  Then, once you buy a battery from them, they tell you it's not the battery, but the alternator.  The good ole 'double dipping' trick.

Lucky for me, I did not take the bait.  I knew the battery was good.  Two different Autozones confirmed that my alternator was bad... why couldn't they?

Caveat emptor!

The office looks old - at least for the services and parts. Parking was a bit confusing - but I just parked at any empty space I could find.

However, the guy behind the parts was patient, knowledgeable and quick.

We just got a new car from Sterling McCall last month was were more than impressed.  They were not pushy, very knowledgeable, and helped us with the finer points of buying our first car.  It was great to see such a wide variety of cars and to be able to test drive everything.  They made it quick and painless, and even threw in free window tinting for us.  My husband's boss bought his car from them and recommended the dealership--I think we'll continue the tradition and encourage everyone to check them out.
