Reviews on Gillman Subaru South

I had an excellent experience buying a new Forester with Simon. Even though it was two women shopping, he was never pushy and never spoke down to us. We went to Gilman Subaru South expecting to just look and maybe test drive, but Simon offered me an excellent deal on both my new car and my trade-in.

My only complaint is that there was over an hour delay between me deciding to buy the car and actually getting into financing. I could see that they had checked my credit score over half an hour previous to being able to speak to someone, and those tactics seem a bit shady, especially as the dealership did not appear terribly busy. We were considering leaving by the time we were finally invited into an office. He did spend a good bit of time with me once we got in, allowing me to customize my warranty and my payment plan in a way that suited me and addressed my concerns.

However, that is not Simon's fault, and he was the best car salesman either my mother or I have ever dealt with. When I returned with my trade-in the next day, he was also extremely courteous to my father and got us in and out of the dealership quickly and without any hassle.

Financing aside, I wouldn't hesitate (and in fact have) recommended Gillman Subaru and Simon to others. A coworker of mine is looking for a family car, and she loved my Forrester, so I gave her Simon's card.

Five stars for my salesman Simon, three stars for financing's tactics, and four stars for the financing service I ultimately received.

Ziaur Rahman and the Sales Manager Johnny Moe were both professional and courteous, and they worked with me on a deal that made sense for both parties.

I am a happy customer and I wholeheartedly recommend Subaru Southwest Gillman and specifically Ziaur Rahman to any customer in the market for a Certified Used Vehicle.

I will keep this post updated to share my experience with the service department.

Was looking for a used car for my son. This was right in the middle of note season so prices were high and demand scarce. We looked all over and couldn't really find anything. We found a Honda accord on cargurus.com and went to look at it. We went on a Saturday afternoon and met Matthew. I cannot say enough great things about this gentleman. He was very busy with other customers but found time for us. Ours was a cash deal so definitely not a higher end sale. The place was busy and we were treated great. The car had a couple of items that needed to be fixed and they agreed to fix them.

Overall very happy with the treatment and service we received. Matthew was very professional, organized, and personable. The communication was top notch as well! After dealing with other dealerships it was nice to be treated right. Also Wayne Young in the finance department was excellent and fast as well.
If you are in the market for used please go see Matthew!
This is our second vehicle we have purchased from gillman and will look towards them for future needs.
Thanks again!

I will never buy a car from Gillman subaru again, the service was one of the worst ever.
Why would an oil change take 2 hours. And i had an appointment. I spoke with a guy name ramirez, he was very rude and unprofessional, he did not help or even try to help.
So please if you must buy a subaru go to west houston subaru. Please stay a way from Gillman. I will be telling everyone i know about there bad service.
Today i had to speak to Mr. Thomas J. Doll, his the vice president of subaru america and i told him everything about the bad service that i received from Gillman subaru.

Awesome car buying experience.  I knew what I wanted before I showed up at the dealership and I researched and requested quotes from two dealerships.  Gillman was more responsive and less expensive :-).  No haggle experience at a fair price.  I strongly recommend.  You won't be disappointed!  Thanks Jennifer!

I went in for an oil change under warranty. They ended up replacing the filter and washing my car for me, which caught me by surprise, but was absolutely welcomed since it was covered. A+ service

I am very pleased with my purchase and even more pleased with the amazing customer service. At Gillman they know the importance of customer service. I look forward to my next purchase from them.

My new car had a factory defect that took a while to sort out due to Subaru themselves not having the right parts. Gillman took care of me going the extra mile as well as Subaru of North America. Although this was a problem for me, they did treat me like I wanted to be treated. They are recommended and endorsed by Jerry Reynolds "The Car Pro". Actually out of any car I have owned, I have been treated far better by these people than others. This is my first Subaru and I am off to a good start. I had bought a Volvo in the past and received very poor customer service. Then a Fiat which was not better.  Also Gillman has the largest Subaru inventory as well. At first it was a bit difficult trying to buy a car, but that is part of the game everywhere. They did give me a good deal on my trade which sealed the deal. Salma and David were my salespeople, they know their products and do take care of you. Service is great. They do a good job and explain everything well.

Well I recently bought a Subaru from BMW so obviously I wasn't going to take it to  service for BMW. I heard a rattle coming from third brake light cover. On my first visit they insulated the third brake light cover and sure enough rattle went away. Three weeks later rattle came back so I took it once again. On this visit, a lot more work was required. Rattle was coming from rear trim piece. They removed the trim piece & insulated some areas retest drove & eventually took care of all the rattles.

It did take a few hrs. Which It was my off day so I had nothing but time. Luis my service adviser was great. He got me a shuttle cause I was hungry.  Jeff the shuttle driver dropped me off & picked me up when I was finished. I will definitely be taking my vehicle for service at Gillman. Much appreciated.

Buying a car from Gillman Subaru South(west) was, BY FAR, the best car buying experience I have ever had. I needed a very specific total D.O. cost (drive off, which includes dealer fees, tax, title, etc), and my sales guy didn't try to jerk me around AT ALL. I worked with Jason Khoda and I have never been more satisfied with a car purchase (and I've done this 5 times). From the moment I contacted him late on a Saturday evening from another dealership where I was having the worst car experience of my life, he worked to get me my perfect car at my exact price. And it took exactly 24 hours (since they're closed on Sundays) to get me behind the wheel with everything I wanted. I even brought in both of my Great Danes for the "test drive" (previous Forester owner, so I knew what to expect). Everyone was super nice to the dogs, which is always a bonus in my book!

Thank you, Gillman, and thank you, Jason for going above and beyond to make a person you've never met before happy! I will shout (or in this case, Yelp) from the rooftops how much I enjoyed and appreciated what you did.

I purchased my 2009 MINI Cooper S Clubman through Javier Reyes yesterday (1/18/15). Javier provided above excellent service. He was very helpful & patient when I hit a temporary insurance snag keeping me on the phone at his desk for over an hour. I had been to several auto dealerships large & small last week between Bryan & Houston & this was the ONLY one that made me feel important, had my best interest in mind & didn't try to force me in something I didn't want. Other dealerships were rude, impatient, LIARS, & con artists. I feel very fortunate that USAA hooked me up with the Gillman Subaru Team. Honorable mention goes to James Rutledge & Mansoor Maraghi for initially facillitating my purchase. I would also like to show appreciation to Mamun Hussein for thouroughly going over the finalization of my purchase to include my extended warranty. My entire experience at Gillman Subaru was extremely satisfying. I feel elated & confident about my purchase & would encourage everyone to look to the Gillman Companies of Auto Salesbefore making a new or used vehicle purchase whether you're a 1st time buyer or like myself where 'it isn't your 1st rodeo.'

Finance Manager was pretty hassle free and give us the time to process the warranty options necessary to make the right decision for us.    To a very small degree, it felt like a conveyor belt with so many people in the office and so many people buying cars-but this would be the only negative I would give them.  I shopped at around 20 dealerships in Texas and they were the most competitive and had the largest inventory at the time.

This is our new Subaru home!! Moving from out of state can be difficult when having to find new services and car repair is no exception!  Taylor at Gillman did a fantastic job making sure all of our needs were met and communicating with us about our car.  Additionally, she went above and beyond to ensure the smallest details were attended to.  We also had a great experience talking with Pablo, the Subaru mechanic who worked on our car.  My husband is a car guy who asks questions and these guys did a great job with every aspect of our service. Thank you!!!

Great sales team. Jennifer and Mamun made the process so easy and fast. Love my new Subaru!

This is the review I just posted on Google +:
I hate car shopping because I hate salespeople. However, I've had my mind changed by the great experience I had with Eric Bievenour buying my new WRX. Since then, I've had more great experiences with the parts folks answering my questions and David in service. I've had all my questions and concerns taken seriously, and they always followed up. I never thought I'd give a car dealership a 5-star review, but honestly, they earned it.

Interestingly, everyone I have ever talked to in the service department has been head over heels for this service department even when things aren't working out so well with their vehicle. Can't say I or any of the strangers I've met in the waiting room have experienced the "royal bend you over treatment" indicated by a previous poster.

As for trouble with the finance department, I didn't have any issues. I came in through True Car and brought my pre-approved credit union financing with me. No issues and no complaints (from me or the dealership).

There was one hiccup in the sales process while my salesperson was out of the office, but we talked it over and worked it out. No real problems. Everyone remained calm, polite, and professional.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this dealership. I think whatever problems there may have been in the past must have been rectified.

Loved my car buying experience with Jennifer. Went from not wanting to buy a car at another dealership to being excited at this one. Had a few oil changes done here before moving to the PNW and the customer service I received was great. I was greeted promptly and my car keys taken right away. Luis was my service guy and he was nice and informative.

I had a leaky tire (nail) fixed at a national tire store, which led to a lost brake caliper bolt, a flopping brake, and a twisted brake line on the other wheel. They stripped two studs taking off the lug nuts and screwed up the brakes replacing the studs. Don't ask.

This led to my having the car towed to Gillman Subaru. I was running errands on Saturday and it started making really bad noises off and on. I afraid to drive it, despite having been told by another branch of the same tire store that the car was safe to drive, where they told me I had a bad strut, and gave me an $832.00 estimate for new struts.

The tow (flatbed, actually) truck driver and Luis, my service representative at Gillman, were horrified at the danger. Luis said they would have to order a caliper bolt. They didn't carry those in stock because they are so critical to safety no one ever fails to tighten them correctly.

Luis worked late to get my car finished, called me when he said he would, took and emailed me photos of "before" so I could alert the tire store that their folks need more training (no lawsuit, just a hope that no one gets hurt), and was all I could ask for in a car service provider. The price charged was very fair (and a lot less then I feared) and they washed the car for me.

Bravo Gillman Subaru, and thank you, Luis Rodriguez.

Excellent Customer Service,! The  Gen. Manager and sales agent (Ms. Salma) were very accomodating. Over all; we got the best deal and had great buying experience with them! I  love my new 2015 subaru forester XT!

Kevin L. | 2014-09-27

The dealership did a great job ensuring my satisfaction with my vehicle purchase. I had a chat with them about my issues, and not only did they listen, but we came to an agreeable resolution.

What initially was a process that left me slightly disappointed has evolved into a much better experience after working with Jennifer and her attention to detail.

I would recommend Gillman Subaru Southwest and especially Ms. Gipson as a sales manager to others, if there are people interested in joining the Subaru family!

We recently purchased our Subaru from Gillman.  Eric Bievenour represented all aspects of the deal, from vehicle particulars to financing, extremely well, so if you are looking for a Subaru, check out Gillman.  We highly recommend it and look forward to great service from Gillman and many miles from our new Subaru.

This review is for the service department (though the sales team has some very nice people). Since moving to Houston a year ago, I've come here twice to get regular maintenance on a 2013 Outback. I've been very impressed by the members of the service department-- they are very professional, courteous, clear, and have even gone out of their way to help me repair some minor scratches on the door (with no charge). Both times I was able to get an appointment quickly, and the wait time for service was about average (around an hour). Greg in particular is wonderful to work with. I'll be going back with my car for its next checkup.

Jordan S. | 2014-07-15

My experience is with the service department. I purchased my BRZ in Austin, but the service has been here. They have worked on it for free every time (tires replaced, fuel injector replaced, routine maintenance, etc), and it have been very quick about it. The people I worked with are very nice, and genuinely care about my experience. The service department is also very knowledgeable, and explained in detail what they were doing, why they were doing it, the pros and cons, and gave me the option to back out if I wanted to. I have never felt pressured here, and would recommend it to any new Subaru owner.

Nabeel M. | 2014-07-13

I went to this dealership to test drive a subaru BRZ. I spoke with Jana, and she was professional and courteous. I am shopping around, but I will keep the service I received here in mind when making my decision. Go here and ask for her, you will not be disappointed.

Ken R. | 2014-06-15

I bought a Forester through internet sales--- it was a very efficient and pleasant experience.  The dealer was quick, friendly, responsive and flexible in meeting my needs.  When I picked up the car, it took only an hour. Based on my experience, I would recommend this dealership to anyone, particularly those from out of town who need to buy a car in Houston. Excellent customer      Service!

Donald B. | 2014-05-07

Always good a great experience here! Eric Beivenour gave me an amazing deal on a 14' wrx hatch and Gonzolo Martinez gives grade a service in the parts department. The whole staff is solid!

Lamar B. | 2014-03-11

These people have hands down the worst Subaru service department that I have ever been to. Go to any other dealership in the metroplex but this one if you don't want to be lied to and ripped off. How they stay in business is beyond belief.

UPDATE: The manager now wants me to call him up to discuss my beef. No thanks. If they don't remember me then they must have screwed over a lot people to have difficulty in keeping track of us. I would much rather drive my awesome Subaru into Galveston Bay than drive it into their shop.

Those of you who gave them 5 stars must have drunk the Kool-Aid or have yet to receive the royal "let me bend you over" treatment from this dealership.

Next time you drop your car off here, sit in the waiting room and talk to some other customers. I've heard them talk about the royal treatment. It's actually kind of disturbing hearing a sweet old lady tell you about it. I would head west if you want a real dealership that offers real service and are much more honest.

Very Unprofessional and Rude Sales Test Drive Experience. Go elsewhere for better service. The dealer should hire salesman who have actually been IN a car before.

Went for a test drive of a Subaru BR-Z.
1. Salesman was rude. When I gave him my ID to scan for the test drive, he threw it back at me. Was not at least courteous as expected from any typical sales experience.
2. He lied to me about not having any BR-Z's....And then amazingly he found some BR-Z's on the piece of paper in front of him within 30 seconds of telling me the original lie.
3. On the test drive and 100 feet out, notifies me not to rev the engine over 4000 RPM's and that he wants me to be concerned for his safety, without even mentioning that my safety is also important (!!!).
4. Salesman was unprofessional. Cut the test drive short, and when we get back to the dealership. I get out of the car and he, in front of me, sees his coworker and begins to complain about me to him in front of me.
5. Front Desk was clueless. Spoke to the front desk, I was so upset and the nice lady just said thank you.
6. Spoke to the Manager John B. and all he could say was, that this experience was somehow my fault.

I've test driven a ton of cars, hundreds over the last 10 years, and have never been treated so poorly by a car salesman, new or used.

GO Elsewhere. I will.

My experience with Gillman south was really overall very good.

The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 was that I had to call them to find out if my car was ready.

Despite that one little pet peevy thing, the buying experience was simple, quick, and courteous.

I knew exactly what I was looking for, which was a used Outback with a manual transmission.  One popped up on my radar screen on auto-trader, and I called immediately.

My sales guy was Jason, who seems like a pretty easy going guy.  We drove out that very day to preview the car, which actually wasn't ready to be shown yet... it hadn't been fully cleaned and they were working on a little fender damage which didn't bother me, plus I would trust Subaru to do a better job at fixing the dings than anyone else.

Upon request for more info about whatever damage was to be fixed (since I couldn't see it any more) Jason kinda ducked that question fast, but whatever the damage was, it couldn't have been THAT bad based on what I noticed in the online photo, and it really didn't bother me.

We hopped in a for a quick around the corner drive, everything was in order, so I made a cash offer on the spot and immediately left.

They countered via telephone that night (I had to call them).  I countered again, and so did they, and we arrived at a price smack in the middle, which I felt was honestly fair for both of us.  Each call took about 45 seconds, and Jason called me back within 10 minutes of each counter.

I plunked a "hold the car" payment on my credit card that night (thursday night), and they said they would get her all ready.

By Saturday, I hadn't heard a peep from them.  Out of the blue, a customer service guy named John called and asked how our experience had been...

So I told John that I hadn't quite finished the deal;  that I had yet to hear anything about the car again.

He was cool about it, promised me a call back in 15 minutes.  He promptly returned my call, and told me the car was ready.

The wife and I cruised down there, the car looked brand new (2010 with 34k miles), everything appeared in order.

We had to wait a while for the finance dood, probably 30 to 45 minutes.(they were pretty busy)  When we finally sat down with him, he was incredibly super cool.  I've never met a more awesome finance guy in my life.  He was down to earth, courteous, and really a great guy to talk to.  Not anything at all like the normal finance guys with a massive 90k watch and an ego the size of jupiter, this guy was a real down to earth pleasure to deal with.   I can't recall his name, but we both really liked the buying part.

I tried to buy the entire car on my credit card for the points, and they declined, but they let me put 3500 on my card, and we wrote a check for the rest.

They had promised a full tank of gas, but the car was dead empty when I cranked her up.  I scrambled back inside to find John, who without an ounce of hesitation, sent someone to fill the car up.

They were back in 15 minutes, shook my hand, and off we went.

So far, everything about the car is on the up and up as promised.  I will edit if I find anything about the car that wasn't as they said it was.

As to the car itself, what a pleasure to drive!  It fits our needs perfectly, and I now understand why so many people love a Subaru.

Freddy V. | 2013-12-06

I have received better customer service from a McDonalds drive through window at 3 am on a Saturday! I went to look for a used car. The sales person could not look less interested. I asked about the accident report on the car fax and he looked perplexed. As if it wasn't obviously written on their own car fax in the webpage. He could not give me a satisfactory explanation of the severity of the accident. Do they blindly buy cars and sell them? Scary. Rotors were severely rusted in the car and the dealer said they could do nothing about it. Really? If you can't fix the rotors how can I expect to trust you with my dream car purchase? Costumers should be treated with care even when buying a used car.

Melissa L. | 2013-11-15

I drove down from Austin to get my preowned 2012 subaru.  Parker went above and beyond getting me all the info I needed before I made the journey so that I wouldn't be wasting my time.  I had been shopping for months and their pricing was very reasonable and fair.  They bought out my lease so I could drive home with my new car that day.  I couldn't be happier.  Thank you Parker and Johnny.

Drove 4 hrs to buy a 2014 Subaru WRX from Gillman Subaru Southwest and James Rutledge and Tim Jamerson are great team. It was by the best car buying experience I've had, so if you need a Subaru contact Janes at jrutledge@gillmanauto.com and they will do a great job taking care of you and your car buying needs.

Stephen

Ashley S. | 2013-07-22

This was my first new car buying experience, and the guys here made it simple, easy, and stress free. Waleed, Tim, and David were AMAZING. They did everything they could to get me the best deal possible, and went above and beyond the call of duty. I am definitely a customer for life here!!!!

Joe L. | 2012-12-10

Sales person Charles wanted to buy my used car, before I even decide what I wanted to do with it. I didn't know if I was going to trade it in, keep it or sell it outright to an individual. I decide to keep it and Charles would not give up, He was insistent to the point of harassment and it drove me out of there. I purchased my new vehicle elsewhere.  The sale people at Gilman are pushy and not very professional, I felt stressed the whole time dealing with them, they use old school tactics, think high pressure time share sales and you got it......if you are dead set on a Subaru, go to West Houston Subaru and talk to Johnny, honest guy and they seem to have better prices than Gilman.

Therese T. | 2012-01-09

I'm pretty OK with Gillman Subaru, only they're so.far.away. The service is pretty good, and it's a car dealership, so when we bought our Subaru, it took 3 hours from start to finish. Can't complain, the car is beautiful, and there was a promo going on, so we got $3k off.

Rebecca S. | 2011-07-20

I ordered a part for my outback, which I originally bought at this dealership, through Gillman and came to pick it up and have it installed there this week. I live 90 minutes away from this dealership so I had to take off work in order to have this done.  When I arrived they took my car to the back and 15 minutes later they informed me that somehow they had ordered the wrong part (even though they took my VIN number so it should have been exactly what was needed), but that they were going to try to make it work. An hour and a half later (so I had been there for 1 hr 45 min total) I went to the service desk to see how much longer it would take. Imagine how surprised I was when I saw my car keys sitting on the service desk and my car not being worked on at all. Apparently the part didn't work, but they had forgotten to come tell me that I could go.

Summary:  Not only did they order the wrong part for my car, but the customer service I received while waiting was terrible.  They had no respect for my time.

Louise M. | 2011-06-16

This was the best car-buying experience I can remember.  Everything was ready to go; no hassles.  It took less than an hour to finalize our purchase.  Everyone was pleasant and efficient.  They filled my tank with gas, and off we went!  Highly recommend.

Julie P. | 2011-03-25

I usually come here only to do major scheduled service for my subaru forester. Came in for 60,000 service early.
They told me my car would fall apart if I didn't replace my timing belt. My car had 56,000 miles on it. Yes, that's right, they said I should have replaced my timing belt at 50,000 miles. EPIC FAIL. They persistently nagged me regarding the timing belt issue. They said after I replace my timing belt at 56,000 miles, then I need all my brake pads + rotors replaced.

I had to stop going here due to the pile on of unnecessary and improperly timed services.

Cullen E. | 2010-12-13

This place is incredible.  Gillman Southwest has continually supported both the Texas and Houston Subaru communities in many forms.  I, myself, and many friends have had nothing but great experiences from the Gillman crew here.  I would absolutely feel comfortable buying a car here or recommending them to anyone else.

Go see Wally and see why Texas loves him!

I brought my Subaru to Gillman's for servicing because they were over $100 cheaper for a 60k service than West Houston Subaru, where I usually take my car.  I dropped off my Subaru and drove the loaner car back to work.  They said they'd call me when the service was done, but I never got a call.  Since they close at 6 PM, I left work and headed to the dealer.  My car was ready -- they just hadn't bothered to call and tell me.  At the check-out counter I was surprised to find the total charge was about $30 more than the "out the door" price I was quoted.  After questioning the discrepancy I was told there was a $30 "materials fee" which was not included in the quote.  What good is an "out the door" quote if it isn't accurate?  One last annoyance was discovered back in my own garage, when I noticed that Gillman had filled the windshield washer fluid container with water rather than washer fluid.  What a bunch of cheapskates.  If you think you're going to save money by going to Gillman for service, think again.  The professionals at West Houston Subaru get much higher marks from me.
