Reviews on Junk Car Buyer ATX

THIS BUSINESS IS A JOKE. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

If it was possible, I would rate them ZERO. I see 2 five star reviews and I have to call total BS... There is NO WAY these guys have ever been 5 Star unless it was an accident.

Background: I have an early 90's Honda I want to get rid of. I am under no pressure and I don't need the money for anything. But my girlfriend wants to use our extra parking space, she's been nagging me to junk it, and I keep putting it off. So...

This is on a Monday. I called 3 different junk car buyer/towers. I got two offers: $220 and $240--both of whom couldn't pick up the car until Tuesday. Junk Car Buyer ATX offers $250 and say they can send their Tow Truck in 30 minutes... So they got my business.

At 1:15PM he said they would be there at 2:00. I work across the street from where I live, so I walked home to meet him. He does not show up at 2:00. I called back and left a voicemail because nobody answered and I walk back to work.

He calls me back at 2:15. I am thinking 'WTF'--but I am VERY POLITE and stay pleasant on the phone. He apologizes and assures me he will make it by 2:45. So at 2:40, I leave work again and walk home. My balcony overlooks the entrance to my community, so I post up and keep watch. When he still isn't there at 2:55, I call and nobody answers.

At 3:05 I don't see any tow trucks. I do, however, see an unfamiliar black pick up truck driving back and forth. I hear my phone ring. I go inside to answer, but by the time I grab my phone it has already stopped ringing. I check the number and it's Junk Car Buyer ATX.

I CALLED BACK IMMEDIATELY. No answer. Call again. I get the voicemail. Call a third time... And he picks up. I identify myself and he says "Sorry, boss, I already left your place." I tell him -- "I've been here waiting and I never saw a Tow Truck" and he responds "Oh, I'm in a black pick up". I look up and spot the unfamiliar black pick up truck TAKING A LEFT OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. So I instantly call him out--and let him know I can see him driving away. I then tell him that I left my job to meet him and that he needs to get back ASAP. Here is where the shady, scammy crap happens...

He begins fumbling his words-- "Umm.... Uh... Um..." --and just generally acting weird. I ask him directly--"Are you coming back, or what?" Then he tells me he has other appointments. I call BS again. Unless he double booked himself, that doesn't sound right. I can sense I am being given the runaround, so I let him know that I left my job twice and that I'm starting to get upset with how they're conducting their business.

He tells me he can "cancel his other appointments" and come back (since he is already gone), but he can only give me $200 for the car. NONE OF IT IS MAKING MUCH SENSE TO ME... Did he get a look at the car and decide it was worth $50 less than what they offered on the phone? Was he really trying to drive away quickly and lie about it?? Is this a Candid Camera episode???

So at this point I lose my temper... I've already filled out the bill of sale for $250 because that's what they told me on the phone. He again starts to "Umm.... Uh... Um...". I let him know that the reason I chose him was because--even though my other two offers were similar--he was the only one who could get it that day. AND HE ACTUALLY TELLS ME... "Go ahead and go with the other guy". Really? That's kind of shady.

I ask him if he is the owner of Junk Car Buyer ATX. Of course, he isn't. I ask for the owner's name and number--which he gives me, as if he knows there will be no repercussions for screwing me around. When I call the owner's number, it's a general voicemail with nothing to identify who the number belongs to. Really? That's kind of shady.

Basically... I called one of the other guys back. His schedule had opened up and he came and got my car THAT DAY--with an actual Tow Truck--and handed me $240 in cash before taking my car.

This was exactly why I had been putting off junking the car in the first place... I wanted to avoid something like this. I feel really bad for anybody in a jam who needs the money or is under a real time crunch.

The bottom line is... Unless you have time to waste and like being jerked around by people who call you 'Boss'--DO NOT CALL THESE CARTOON LOSERS.

They don't care about building their business.

They only care about making a quick buck.
