Reviews on DG Auto Sales

Maris B. | 2015-01-25

I am writing this review for anyone considering buying a car from this company. We searched for over a month for a Honda Odyssey. I passed by one of their dealerships everyday on my way home from getting my son from school. We are not a family that makes a ton of money so every penny counts for us. I test drove an Odyssey they had on their lot. We checked the carfax and it was clear. We did everything on our end to ensure we were buying the best car with the cash we had. We paid cash and drove away in our "new to us" van. I loved it.

A couple of days later the check engine light came on. Three days later my grandmother passed away and we drove the van to Mississippi for her funeral. On our way the van started having major problems. The CV joints went out on our trip, and we had to put the van in the shop in Mississippi and pay almost $900 in repairs before we could drive home. We kept driving it and it did a little better.

No less than 3 weeks later the transmission started slipping. We took it to 2 places and they both quoted us around $4500 - $5500 in repairs.

We then went to visit the owner, Donavin of DG Auto Sales. We told him all that was happening and pleaded with him to help us in some way and he laughed in our faces. He asked us why we didn't take the car to a mechanic before we bought it and blamed the problems on us. He also asked if we bought a warranty and we told him they never offered us one. When purchasing the van we asked if we could buy a warranty and they said no.

My husband suggested that DG Auto Sales probably knew of the problems it was having beforehand and that they disconnected the battery so the check engine light would go off before we bought it. He never denied it. He said, "I can see how you think that."

When we told him about the transmission going out and the quotes that we received from our trusted mechanic, he said "you need to go across the street and talk to my "friend" who owns a transmission shop. He can probably cut you a better deal." Pretty convenient if you ask us.

He was incredibly rude and insulting after we had spent all of our money on a van that had broken within the first month of us buying it. He said if we had financed the van he could have done a trade with us. He wouldn't do anything to help us since we paid cash for the van. He said "there's more money and fees for me when we finance a vehicle." Funny how he would have traded us another vehicle if we were financing it, but he wouldn't do anything to help us since we paid cash for it.

I told him I hope no one ever buys another car from him. We just posted our van on craigslist and now have to sell it for parts. We will lose around $4000 in CASH because of this company.

Our next step is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

If i could give 0 stars I would. I am asking you to take your money somewhere else and not give Donavin another penny.

*UPDATE* Donavin chose to respond to my review. Its funny how the only thing he chose to dispute is that I said "he laughed in our faces." These are facts and actual things that happened. He did nothing to help us.

DG asked me to write a review. I've been waiting to see if the car works fine before I write something. I bought a 2008 Maxima. I overpaid for the car in the first place but I was sick of searching. The first day I went in DG seemed shady. I'm in sales and I'm not shady at all! I put my down payment of $3000. After he was in such a rush to go to the UT game he would rather not sale a car. I left and then came back to cancel. His employees talked me out of canceling. I went back the next day and got the car so I could quit shopping. I asked if they went over the car good. For $13000 they sure should. I had the car a week and the engine light came on. When I called DG about it and asked if he had someone to look at it and he said yes I assumed he was taking care of it. Nope. He actually still had me pay for the labor thinking this was a good deal. I took it cause I wasn't gonna argue. His guy lied and said he fixed the problem. Guess what. Two weeks later the engine light comes back on. I've had the car 3 weeks at this point. I text DG and told him. He never text me back. He actually told his mechanic we had a cash deal and car was as is. I didn't even have the car long enough to purchase an extended warranty on it. I took it to Nissan. They said all kinds of stuff is wrong with the car. I worked my ass off to get this car for my gf. To this day I've had the car 2 months and the engine is still on. I owe $9100 on a piece! Oh and the fog light goes out and is out right now. 2nd time to go out. Well you wanted a review DG. You asked for it. You got it. I would never treat my clients this way. DONT BUY A CAR HERE.

So on 5/31/2013, DG Auto Sales charged my Credit Card $400...BUT I HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN TO DG AUTO SALES. I have never lost my credit card, so how exactly did you charge it?

I just called Bank of America and they said you attempted to run my card multiple times for this amount, before it was finally accepted. How did you do this without my card, SINCE ITS IN MY WALLET. Did someone just write my credit card number on a piece of paper, and you charged it? If so, you are a bunch of freaking idiots for running that transaction. Usually credit card fraud happens in some remote location on the other side of the world, not 15 miles from my house.

At the very least, I hope this post scares a couple people away. Maybe one of your salespeople lose some commission, and you can't feed your family. Then maybe you all starve, and I see you begging for money underneath the freeway. I will point and laugh as I hurl a handful of pennies at your ugly face.

My $400 is on its way back into my account. Have a fantastic day.

As a busy guy running around town all the time, my brakes gave in and I wasn't in position to give up my Tahoe for a few hours.  But Donavin, the owner of DG Sales was kind enough to loan me his car and had my Tahoe taken into for a brake job next door (Donovin's contacts helped me out) and for a very good price, I got a nice brake job on my Tahoe and Donavin even drove down to my house to swap cars.  First Class Service!

DG Auto Sales helped me find the perfect SUV for my 4 year old toddler and I.  I worked with Donavin when purchasing my Tahoe, and we test drove 6 or 7 cars.  Each car was is good condition, and I could have taken any of them home.  DG's prices are very competitive.  Their lot was full, with an array of styles and colors.

Their focus is to sell affordable used cars to people who pay cash or want easy approval on financing.  I financed with them, and am assuming as long as you make you payments, there should be no reason for complaint.

I love my truck, and have not had one problem with it.  I am happy I chose DG Auto Sales, and have referred a handful of friends to do the same!
