Reviews on Accent Auto

This business is ran by 2 brothers. Both of whom are not good at their job. I bought a car from them and talked to them about maybe doing auto repair on all my business cars since they had a garage. I tried very hard to build a good beneficial relationship. They were dishonest with me, did not do the repairs they charged me for, and were plain ol lazy. Like I said, very bad at their job. They could not complete very simple tasks in a timely manner, including not being able to get my permanent license plates to me within legal time and not being able to get parts they promised.

Save yourself from having to hear their bullshit and shop somewhere else.

My wife and I bring our cars here whenever we need a repair. Joseph and the crew take good care of us and our cars. Excellent service.

Let me tell you guys about my experience at accent auto.
I went with my aunt to look at a 2006 tsx. Eddy the co owner whatever was the one who took me on a test drive. It drove well he assured me there was NO accidents on this car what's so ever. He even said he had a car fax for it. I don't know very much about cars so I trusted his word. My aunt flirted with him of course thinking he would lower the price. Lol.
Of course he would flirt back with her and offer to " hook it up " he says he's giving us a great deal and he promises there is NOTHING wrong with the car. Me only being 21 and a girl I have no clue what's wrong with the car, All I know is it drives and the tires are not flat haha. Anyways, I bought the car signed papers and when I went home I realized the front and passenger door doesn't lock. The remote to the car he said worked did NOT work and the lights on the inside didn't work. So I texted him and asked him. He said bring the car in he'll have a look at it. So as he fixed my remote to the car he was also supposed to fix the locks as well. He fixed the front door but passenger door he told me he had to Order another part to it. So I said okay fine. He assured me he felt bad that I drove 30 minutes back and forth to fix this problem and he would give me gas money next time I came. He didnt nor did I ask for it.
OH! I forgot he also was supposed to clean the Acura. He did. It's not like he didn't clean it. But when I got in my car my steering wheel had oil on it. My car looked the exact same. The wash was shit. They left this green glue on there till I asked them to remove it. Not to mention when I closed my driver side door I heard a big clingy sound like it wasn't placed in correctly. When I dropped off the car he told me he would have a loaner for me and it would be 1 hour max. I got there and he didn't have a loaner he got really annoyed when I asked him to take me to a coffee shop that was 10 minutes away so he ended up giving me a loaner. After he told me he had no loaners to give. Lol bullshit right ?
So with all that I took the loaner waited 3 hours and he still wasn't finished. At this point I got frustrated. I wasted time at a coffee shop bored when I could've just went home and back.
So I definitely didn't want to stay after I got my car back. When I noticed the big clingy sound in my door I was pissed. I said screw it I'm taking I to another car shop to look at for me. I went to 5 star auto and they opened my door and found a HUGE flash light INSIDE my door. my memo which was working fine before I brought Eddy the car was unplugged. The guys at 5 star warned me maybe they're messing with me and I said Maybe they just left the flashlight In there while fixing my lock. But no. They did not and that wasn't a accident because the flashlight was broken. It didn't turn on.
So I ignored that incident and then I got hit and ran a couple weeks later. I filed for a insurance claim and my insurance told me I could go to ANY car shop I wanted. The check was under my name and accent auto so I kindly asked them to stamp it so I can cash it to get fixed by 5 star. The owner George was so rude. He told me he would not stamp it unless I got it fixed by them. He told me he would give me 300 back and to bring it to his shop or he won't stamp it. I refused because I do not trust them anymore, so I had to go through the trouble of sending the check back to get it voided for a new one with 5 star on it.
Not only was George rude to me but when I wanted to return the car a while back because I told him I wasn't happy with all the problems it was giving me within the first week he refused and told me either I pay for the car through the bank or they repo my car and keep my down payment. I wasn't going to lose 3000 so I kept the car. He rudely told me repeatedly that the car had 0 accidents. So I said fine maybe I'm wrong. But after that hit and run on my passenger side door I took it to 5 star auto and they told me who ever fixed the door the first time did a HORRIBLE job. The body shop guy knew I didn't understand much about cars so he sat there and explained to me that who ever fixed the car basically put a glob of play dough inside it and painted over. He said it was called bondo. So he assured me that when they fix my car they will be putting metal inside and he looked all around my car and said the car was in more than one accident. Then,
I called them for about a week straight asking for my plates they said it would be mailed out and I would receive in two days. That didn't happen I called back and they told me somehow they " forgot " to mail mine out and mailed others instead and for me to go pick it up. So at this point you can kinda tell how pissed I am right? DONT GO HERE. These guys are mean and they lie to you about everything. Please don't make the same mistake I did. I highly recommend 5star auto.
Accent auto is Super unprofessional and not trust worthy at all in my opinion.

Had a wonderful experience getting my car inspected here. Great prices. I had to get a small cap in my engine replaced in order for my inspection to pass and they did it free of charge which was very unexpected and greatly appreciated! And I was only there for about 15-20 minutes.

Overall it was fast, cheap, and friendly!

Only complaint is that they recommended me to a place that speeds up the car registration process (which they must get some sort of commission based off of how many referrals they give), but failed to mention the $40 admin fee. It's probably my fault though that I didn't read things as thoroughly.

Cary M. | 2014-10-05

This is the only place that has ever charged me extra for a "required premium filter" during an oil change. I've had my oil changed twice since then elsewhere with no up charge. In addition, the atmosphere was unprofessional, with the owner complaining openly about his business fallouts with his previous partner and other things that simply made the whole experience awkward. Avoid.

Sheila G. | 2014-09-27

Very friendly over the phone. Explained that bing on time was important and that an oil change would take 30-45 minutes. Te place looks a little small, but I was pleased with the service and promptness. I was greeted immediately and my car was service with an oil change under 45 minutes. They checked the car for other issues and mentioned my brakes might need attention in the next month or so. They found the parts and quoted the price for me, but were not pushy to make the fix happen. I appreciate that as I only came in for an oil change. However, very friendly staff and I will be back!

THIS PLACE IS RUN BY SCAM ARTISTS, DO NOT GO HERE!

I purchased a Jeep from this place about 6 months ago. So first off...

-Eddie, the owner, told me that everything worked with the car but sure enough a month later when I go to use my A/C for the first time nothing worked. The A/C needed a complete overhaul which came out to around $850. Eddie took no responsibilty and basically told me that because I had already signed all the paperwork when I bought the car there was nothing I could do about it.

If this was the only problem I had with the car I could accept that. But last week when I started hearing a weird noise while driving, I took the car into a Pep Boys to see what the new problem was. Turns out the entire bottom of the vehicle was completely rusted and would need a complete overhaul! Hoping that I didn't pay too much for it he told me that it was in my best interest to try to sell it for anything I could because the car was going to cost thousands to repair. He assumed I paid about 3-4 grand when I bought it. Nope, I paid close to $8,000. The mechanic that looked at it felt so bad for me that he didn't charge me anything for looking at it and told me he was disgusted that shops sell junk cars to people like this.

The absolute worst thing about all of this and the part that upsets me the most is that I paid for the new A/C at Accent Auto and Eddie had the audacity to charge me the $800 knowing full well that the Jeep was worthless and rusted.

I was lucky to get $2000 for the Jeep when I traded it in to a Toyota dealership to get a new car and now I have to accept, basically, throwing away $6,000.

I regret ever going to Accent Auto and having to deal with scumbag owner Eddie.

I brought my car to a place that specializes in vw and it was shown that accent auto damaged my abs control module putting in the engine they replaced.  This is why everything failed after I got my car back.  Avoid this shop like the plague if you know what's good for you.

Bismark S. | 2014-08-20

I went in with a Groupon and thought everything went fine, until I came back and saw that the latch of my glove box was broken. I called to Joseph, and he said that it was not his mistake. He said he may have a look at it, but didn't admit its his fault. Then he started saying that he is the owner of the shop and why would he lie. A simple statement admitting even a possible fault would have been good.
The problem didn't end here. Today a week after, I opened the hood of the car and saw the gasket connecting the air filter hoses is not connected leaving a gap. It is hard to explain this, but think of it as a missing connector in the engine (non essential for a few days at least) missing. This is simply hopeless.
I would never come here again. Do yourself a favor and don't waste money even on the Groupon

Zero stars!
How did they scam me?  Let me count the ways.
I want to keep this short enough to read, but it's hard to sum up everything they did wrong.
I went in to buy a mini-van from them.  It was a good deal.  I asked if it ran well, and they said, "Yes, great."  Then they tried to start it and the battery was dead.  "We'll put in a new battery if you buy, no problem."  I don't know why I didn't see any flags, I'm just too trusting.  They said they would do everything, but I didn't get enough of it in writing.  They were just willing to say anything to sell the car, "We'll put on new wipers.  We'll fix the AC.  We'll vacuum it out before you pick it up."  There's a 30 guarantee, anything goes wrong in the first 30 days and they will fix it.  Any work they do on the car is guaranteed for a year.  Okay, sounds good.  Then the owner appealed to his good name.  "This is my company, I do good work so I keep customers and get referrals and grow my business."  Etc. I bought it.  Their lies and the van.
Long story short... the AC never worked.  They tried fixing it a couple times, then said it wasn't their responsibility anymore.  I took it into another car place, and they said they replaced the compressor or condenser (can't remember) without replacing the dryer receiver and expansion valve.  The other car place (Excalliber Auto, love them), said they're supposed to be replaced together.  He said he can't even get a warrantee on the compressor/condenser unless he buys it with the other two parts.  I told my dad about it, he works on cars occasionally but he's no expert, and when I asked what he would do to replace the compressor/condenser, he immediately said the expansion valve and dryer receiver would need to be replaced too.  When I mentioned this to Accent, they claimed to have no idea what I was talking about.
They lied, ALL THE TIME.  One employee came out and lied to me.  When I told the manager, Eddie, what the other employee had said he first said the other employee hadn't said that, then Eddie said he was just wrong and what Eddie was telling me was right.  When I continued complaining about being lied to Eddie said, "It's not my responsibility what my employees say."  YES, IT IS.
They didn't have my license plate in 30 days.  When I went in to ask about it they said they would just print out another temporary plate.  I said I wasn't sure if that was allowed, and they said, "Sure it is.  I'll do it right now."  I called the DMV and they said the title hadn't been transferred; after 30 days they still hadn't received any indication that I was the owner.  They told me that was illegal and to file a complaint against Accent Auto.  They said it's illegal to print out another set of temporary plates, and I should file a complaint.  When I said something to Accent Auto they freaked out and said they would have my plates tomorrow, and if I was going to complain about a one day difference that I would be overreacting.  30 days and the DMV has no record of the sale, and then they magically have my plates the very next day.  Suspicious?
I got pulled over in the first month for having an inspection sticker that was expired by 5 months.  I just got a warning, but I called the DMV to find out if dealerships were allowed to sell cars with expired inspection stickers.  No, they are not, I should file a complaint against the dealership.  When I mentioned this at Accent Auto they said they had no idea what I was talking about, and they charged me for the inspection.
Last one, I think.  I took my car in within the 30 day window because it was making squealing noises.  I said I thought it was a belt.  They looked, said there weren't any problems with any belts.  As I was leaving the dealership my car was making the most horrific noises I've ever heard.  It was after 5:30, I had to get home, so I told myself I would take it in first thing in the morning.  The next morning the car made it less than a mile from my house before dying in the road.  I had it towed to Accent Auto.  They claimed no responsibility and refused to pay for the towing.  A belt had snapped.  Less than 24 hours after I brought it in to have the belts looked out.  It sounded worse when I left.  And it was totally not their fault.  They were magnanimous to cover part of the repairs, but I still payed some out of pocket.
I eventually stopped taking it back, because it was literally worse every time I did, and they always ended up charging me something despite all their guarantees and promises.  Shady, illegal, dishonest operation.

I went in for an oil change and a tire rotation. I made the appointment for a Saturday since I was in from out of town visiting family, so I was running a little late (Austin traffic, who knew?), so I pulled into the TINY parking lot, was told to move my vehicle, and then walked in the front door. The gentleman behind the counter told me that I was 15 minutes late so I had forfeited my spot and while he was telling me this, I wasn't even 15 minutes late my the clock hanging above his door! I told him that and then also told him how the mechanics in the parking lot told me I had to move my car which took a bit (again, Austin traffic on lamar). He begrudgingly agreed to squeeze my car in so I left. Two hours later, they called me that my car was done. I show up and they hadn't rotated the tires! He claimed that since i had a front-wheel drive car, it was better to leave my better tires on the front which A) my car is not a front-wheel drive car, and B) even if it were a front-wheel drive car, you ALWAYS put the better tires on the back. Basically, they screwed me out of my money as I had already purchased the Groupon and couldn't get a partial refund, and argued with me about something I know to be true. Don't go here.

Blair M. | 2014-07-24

Parking isn't great and the service wait was something else without the aid of air conditioning during extrema heat and lack of proper seating. It should be a service only station and the chairs should be removed and this should be made apparent ahead of scheduling. I felt as if the wait in the standing heat would have been payment enough :P I hear the Ben White location is brand new. I may try that one out but I'm not so sure. The prices seem average with Sears Auto. I may stick with what I know to be 100% true lol and go to sears for my alignment and stated repairs Accent advised me to get.

Ariel D. | 2014-07-13

Craiglist spammer. All of their posts list every other vehicle make and model at the bottom so they show up in every search. If they are dishonest like that I bet they are dishonest in other ways too.

Vic G. | 2014-06-21

Bought my 2005 Excursion from these guys and had some mods done to it. These guys have got to be the best shop that I have found in decades. Customer service is key...and these guys have it.
If your looking to get tossed around like a number...This is not your shop!
If you want to be treated with respect and honesty.... then kick back and relax and let these guys solve your problems.

Allowing someone to work on my vehicle can be one of the most stressful decisions for me..( I know my way around a vehicle) these guys got it going on!

Thumbs up!

Chad M. | 2014-06-13

The service was friendly and the work itself was done fairly quickly I'd say. Overall I'd recommend this location to anyone in the immediate area. They also advertise a state inspection for $28.75 which isn't too bad.

Lauren S. | 2014-06-12

I'd come back here again. I had a Groupon voucher and got everything I asked for. It only took an hour for an oil change and 20-point inspection, just as they said it would. The owner told me my car was in really good shape and only needed a new air filter, so I appreciated them not making up some random issue to try to gouge me like other places have done. Good job Accent Auto.

Kickie D. | 2014-06-07

Very surprised, after my yelp review was posted the owner of the shop contacted me personally... He apologized for the service I had received and noted that the mechanics were overrun with the groupon clients that flocked to the shop for oil changes after the special was posted. He noted that was no excuse but he would like to fix my prior visit. I will be giving the shop another chance in the future and update my review accordingly at that time.

I must say though I am blown away that he personally contacted me and gave me his cell # instead of just writing it off as a bad review and ignoring it.

Sam O. | 2014-05-23

Used a Groupon voucher and got exactly what I expected. No one tried to up sell me on anything silly. The parking lot is super crowded, but overall I felt comfortable doing business here.

Josephine F. | 2014-05-07

Great service will definitely go back . A friend recommended the place . I bought groupon the service was beyond my expectations . Will defanitly go back .

Christa C. | 2014-04-27

I came in with a groupon deal for an oil change and diagnostic check. In addition to them running quite behind their estimated time of completion, they also failed to do an actual diagnostic check (which i didn't find out until I took my car in elsewhere for additional estimates), and provided me with a ridiculous estimate for repairs. They told me the result of my diagnostic check was I needed a new head gasket as oil was leaking, and I needed an transmission fluid flush. I also needed my headlights cleaned. Their estimate was ridiculous (I believe over $500). I took my car to precision tune on burnet and got all the repairs for half of what  accent quoted me. In addition they told me the repairs had nothing to do with the engine, and therefore would not be the source of my check engine light still being on. A quick check told them the light had something to do with emissions in the fuel tank. Now, I have to again pay someone for an actual diagnostic check to figure out what the precise source of the check engine light is. Two stars because no problems came from the oil change.

Worst car buying experience of my life.  Paid cash, car spent the majority of the next 6 weeks with them as they continued to experiment on the car apparently... Ended up finding an MB mechanic who actually pulled out all the parts they messed with... we had holes punched/cut into hoses and all sorts of other issues and ended up selling the car to that mechanic for half of what we paid because it was such a mess and we weren't getting any use out of it anyway.

They really are very friendly when you're ABOUT to spend money, but after the fact, good luck.  Before buying here, just make sure you ask yourself if you're ready to throw money away.

Erin F. | 2014-04-11

I think my first instincts were right - you pull into their lot (IF you can fit your car into the lot) and it looks like utter chaos. A postage-stamp size lot with cars at every angle.

I bought their Groupon deal for an oil change, etc. and while I went to have it done, I have serious doubts whether they actually performed an oil change. I went outside to watch them sporadically and frankly it didn't look (either time) like they were doing a DAMN THING. This was two weeks ago. Today I'm told by another business that I *really* need an oil change. Uh-huh. Never again.

Betty G. | 2014-03-31

Great service and professional staff. They worked exactly as an auto place should - friendly, informative and efficient.

Sharred D. | 2014-01-25

These guys are awesome. Fast service. And they don't try to upsell anything. They do what you want and got me out in less than 15 minutes for an inspection.

Mixed feelings about my experience at Accent Auto. Car was well overdue for an oil change and tire rotation so I bought a Groupon and headed over. My boyfriend had his car serviced on the same deal just a week or so earlier and had no complaints.

They did manage to schedule an appointment for me the same day which was nice. The place was pretty jam-packed with cars as they are a tiny little location on the corner of S Lamar and Bluebonnet, but I was checked in and went to wait. Their "waiting area" is tiny, uncomfortable and kind of dirty/unkempt if you ask me. I'm still willing to overlook this as it's a mechanic shop and I'd rather they do solid work under the hood than present a shiny office area.

After an hour of listening to the mechanics talk shop and cuss at each other through the side door I was given a detailed list of things that need to be replaced soon my car, but zero pressure to do it then or make any commitments, which I appreciate. I wasn't surprised as my car is old and I'm resistant to putting in lots of money towards its upkeep at this point. They did offer to throw in one of my regular maintenance items in for free if I took care of everything there which I liked.

The check out process took forever as the guy had to type me up in the computer, then run my Groupon, then take my card for a small part I had to add on (the nut for the oil pan had been stripped by the last oil change). Finally I got my keys and headed out of there.

Pulling out my car immediately started making a grinding/rattling noise and my check engine light came on. I flipped around, came back, and they examined everything. According to the mechanic one of my busted struts had relaxed when the car was suspended and some air probably got in there to cause the rattling sound, which would dissipate with driving. The check engine light was reading as an O2 sensor error that supposedly had nothing to do with anything they did and was probably just a fluke. I also noticed my tires were pretty low and turns out they had not put air in them as they were supposed to, which they took care of promptly.

Weird coincidence? Maybe, but off-putting nonetheless.

My car has been driving fine since and has the wonderful just-got-serviced feel to it, but I still feel uneasy about the overall experience. May try them one more time just to see since they are very close to my house.

I always come to Axent for all my vehicles needs. They're always extremely helpful, quick, and a trustworthy company. The manager Joseph is always also always so friendly, makes it easy to sit and pass time while waiting on your car.

Took my car in for a groupon special: oil change, tire rotation, fluids topped off & diagnostic check for $29.  Really friendly service at a really good price. I was out in an hour.

Rewriting this review since Yelp removed it after 4 months for lacking first hand customer experience.

Brought my car in with 4 tires to switch out. They said it would take a couple hours so I walked home. They called a few hours later and said it was ready. When I got there they had wrong tires on wrong wheels and could not figure out which wheels went where.

My car has directional tires and different size wheels front and back. The new tires were clearly marked for position on the car and I showed them also. They kept arguing with me that the tires were not directional and it would make no difference, incredible.

They also used clamp on weights to balance the aluminum wheels when I specified stick on weights designed for these type of wheels. Turns out they were using another shop across town to install the tires. Several hours later they got the correct tires on the correct wheels. There was significant damage to the wheels from improper equipment and clamp on weights were used again. This all day job was a nightmare and the personnel were quite rude throughout.

I will never return.

Really good service and hard working...fair price

I love this shop. They take great care of you and will make sure you are aware of everything before fixing it. They also let you know what needs to be done right away and what can be scheduled out. I will not take my care anywhere but to axxent auto.

Gather round kids, it's story time.

I got a flat tire. Actually, my tire kind of just split in two. No spare, so I make my way over to accent auto, right down the road. I say I need a new tire, but it'd be cool if you find me a used one. Done and done.

Two days later, my tire is flat. Oh, and all shredded, like someone took a knife to it.  I'm stuck on the side of the road, and get my jack and tools out, and get to work.  oh wait. No spare tire.  i call my mom, yelling at her like its her fault (sorry mom) and then i call accent auto.  They send a tow truck, with an extremely attractive tow truck driver to my rescue.

I arrive at the shop, with my car, and I lose my shit. I am irate and raise my voice, out of frustration of having just got this tire.  I am a bitch to everyone in the shop.

The guys take the time to show me the real problem.  The tire rim.  Well, shit.  Have to buy a new rim.  (ENTER ALL THE EXPLETIVES HERE)

It took several days, but the dudes found a rim to match my stupid vintage Mercedes, and had a tire brought in from Dallas.  They called and updated me each day, at least once.

I got my car back, and apologized for being a crazy bitch.  The owner said he'd seen crazier.  We laugh, I give him all my money, and I get my keys and drive off into the sunset.

I still firmly believe the guy with the tattoos that worked on my car will hate me forever, but I really don't blame him.  I was kind of psychotic.  Sorry, dude.

Took BMW into Firestone for an estimate on lower control arms. Was floored with the price they gave me and knew I would have to gouge my savings. Had to get a second opinion. Went to Accent Auto and Eddy practically laughed at the price Firestone proposed. He pulled up a price that was hundreds less. Hun-dreds less. Like almost $700 worth. Much much more affordable.

Upon getting lower control arms replaced, Eddy found that I needed to have work done on the power steering. Sure, not what I wanted to pay for just a week after paying off lower control arms, but Eddy was insistent on showing me the problem so I could see it with my own eyes. I believed him anyway, but once I got there, he jacked the car up, went underneath with my camera that I had in the car, and took photos of the leak. Within seconds I was a reassured believer that I found a good guy.

A couple days later I found that the power steering started leaking again. Just what Eddy told me to look out for. Called him up and he wanted it in right away. Easy to adjust but glad I got it done as soon as I did or it would have been undriveable. No charge.

Afterwards, was so pleased with service and care, got oil change done and am planning on getting the beamer detailed next month at Accent. Great price for detailing. Much better deal than any other in Austin.

Fiance has also gotten work done on his Grand Am. Power steering on this car was a continuous problem, but Eddy was determined to get it done and stayed almost till 10pm.

Fiance and I trust Eddy. He is an honest hard worker. He wants to work with you, he cares, and encourages you to call if there is any problem afterwards. A gem of a find. And, as a woman, I feel comfortable talking to him about something that is wrong with the car even if I don't know all the terminology.

Thanks again, Eddy. See you soon!

I came to this place after a recommendation from a friend. I called on my way over to ask how long it would take to do an oil change, tire rotation, and state inspection. They told me less than an hour, which was great as everywhere else in town seemed to be much longer on the busy day. Sure enough, I arrived as the only customer in the waiting room. When I asked the man up front about how long it would take for the oil change, tire rotation, and inspection, he said 40 minutes, but they had just run out of state inspection stickers. I badly need an oil change, and figured I could take care of the inspection another time, so I agreed to wait, and was happy to do so.

About 20 minutes later, a woman came in to ask for a state inspection. They seemed to know each other. The same guy informed her that they had just ran out of stickers, and she acted disappointed, but not upset, and asked him who else they would recommend going to. She also admitted that she didn't have her proof of insurance on her, which means that legally she could not have passed a Texas state inspection. He then poked his head out into the garage and yelled out to ask if they still had the one inspection sticker left. I was sitting there and could obviously hear him as he was able to confirm that they did in fact have a sticker left. He then told the woman that he would be happy to inspect her car.

While I was able to get my oil changed and tires rotated quickly and without issue, for an affordable price, I was very put off by the person working the desk lying to me about being out of inspection stickers, and then openly giving one he knew he had to a customer who came in well after me. Based on the other reviews here, it seems like if you are a regular customer, you get treated well. Sure, this was my first time to come here, but I would have loved to have become a regular customer if the business was good. I won't ever be back, and I won't be recommending it to any friends.

Went here today to redeem a livingsocial deal on an oil change/tire rotation/fluid top off/system check.

The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating.

I told them I was on a time crunch before work. I went at 9am, and said "I HAVE TO BE OUT BY 10:30 PLEASE!"

Then, I added a MILLION things for them to do of course. "Oh, can I have an state inspection???" "OH Can you also throw a new serpentine belt on my car?" 'OH Can you dance along to the hiphop music playing from the garage for my entertainment?"

They did it all. For a great price, and without skipping a beat. They got me out within 10 mins of my prior requested time, which was quoted initially for just the oil change, tire rotation, and diagnostic tests.

I spoke to the owner and he was super friendly and down to earth. Seemed very knowledgable of the industry. I will be bringing my car back for body work to see what prices they quote and how that goes.

I wish I knew about the YELP deal they had going on "$125 for $95" coupon, because I got over $150 worth of work done- inspection, wipers, serpentine belt, air filter.

I am just now getting around to writing a review for service that we received about three years ago; things might have changed since then--however, since we won't be using Accent Auto again, I wouldn't know.

Our van spent four months (off and on) during 2009 sitting at Accent Auto. We would take it in for an engine light to be addressed. We would get the van back, and one or two other lights would be showing. "Why didn't they repair the van all the way, we would ask? Didn't you see those other lights?" Yes, they would reply, but all you wanted repaired was the one light, so that's what we did. No interim phone calls telling us about the other lights.

We finally decided to put a different engine into the van, hoping to address all of the problems at once. Like fools, we used Accent Auto again because they were located just down the street. We asked about prices for a new engine versus a "reconditioned" engine and were given what we thought were the prices we requested. We went with a reconditioned engine.

What we got was an engine that was pulled from a junkyard and placed directly into our van without any checks, reconditioning, gasket changes--nothing. WHO DOES THIS? That is the stupidest thing that I ever heard of...AND we weren't told that was the case until we immediately started having problems with the second engine.

After speaking with the owner multiple times about this, to be told that "we must have misunderstood", he graciously offered to "split the difference" with us on actually reconditioning the engine.

We spent over $8000 with Accent Auto. The van was scrapped less than six months later.

This place gets two stars because their mechanics are so nice. I just wish that they had been knowledgeable.

***One star removed for the extremely rude response to my review.***

I was originally going to Axent to have them install tires that I was going to purchase from a different source, but instead, Joseph found some Bridgestone tires for me at $55 each! They installed my tires, I got an alignment, and my state inspection, all for under $450!! I'm a super happy customer!

On top of it all, they had it ready for me the same day and were honest and communicated with me about everything!

I asked them to give me a brake estimate as well. I had taken my car to North Austin and was told that all my brakes needed to be replaced immediately at an estimate of $600. Axent looked at my brakes and said, they still had  few more thousand miles on them and didn't need to be replaced right away. I WILL however, take it to Axent when I'm ready to get my brakes replaced!

Thanks Axent!!

Mike Y. | 2012-05-01

I, of course, waited until the day after my inspection sticker expired to start looking for an inspection shop. I found Axent on Yelp, read the reviews, and decided to try the shop. They were very quick to set my expectation that there was another car in front of mine and asked if I minded waiting. I decided to try my luck and wait in line.

The waiting area was comfortable and the guys at the desk were friendly and conversational. In no time, my car was ready.

No muss, no fuss. I watched as they helped a couple of difficult customers and was quite impressed that they dealt with the situations as professionals. Great customer service. I'll be back!

Crooks!  Well, I suppose it is bound to happen at least once in a lifetime, I was cheated by these mechanics. And not the mechanics themselves per say, but the horrible, money grubbing guy that manages the place.  THEY SOLD ME a Carburetor for OVER $600 dollars!!! I even saw the receipt that showed that they purchased it for $289!!  I've heard of mark up, but this is highway ROBBERY! When I confronted them there was no leeway, no desire to work with me and make things right, nothing!  They told me they'd get the car up and running and totally fixed for $1000. I ended up with an extremely overpriced carburetor and  the car broke down the very night I picked it up.  Took it back and they started quoting me $800 to fix this, $300 for that, etc... And the I knew, I HAD BEEN TAKEN. SAVE YOURSELF!! DON'T GO HERE! They are crooks and cheats! At least get an itemized receipt before you let them do the work. WATCH THESE GUYS CLOSELY! Good Luck, I hope this review saves some people some real heartache. Sux to get robbed.

Good guys that are honest and give you the best deals.  They are always quick and can usually service my car in the same day.  They do it all from inspections to oil changes and engine changes if needed.  They opened another location which is bigger and nicer too! They have even taught me a lot about cars so I can understand what is wrong with my car and be able to explain issues easier.

Apurva N. | 2012-01-04

Joe and Eddie at Axent Auto are always honest with me and don't try to upsell me on anything.  In fact, whenever possible, they try their best to save me some $$ when possible.  I know this because they are very transparent about what their parts and labor costs are and I've checked them on the internet and they've always given the cheapest possible quote.  They've always gone out of their way to give me great service, and Joe calls me every now and then just to check up on how my cars are running, etc.

These guys are great.  Period.

FRAUD ALERT!!! FRAUD ALERT!!!! A few wks ago a man came in my store selling large laminated discount cards for Axent Auto''s two locations(they seemed legit, the cards even had photos of the Axent staff). I bought one for 40 bucks.
Today i called to set up an appointment with them and a man with a mid-east accent answered the phone and then proceeded to tell me he had no intention of honoring the card. He suggested i call the number on the card for a refund. Called the number and got some guy's voicemail. I doubt i'll hear back from them.
THESE GUYS ARE SCUM-OF-THE-EARTH CROOKS! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! I will be notifying the Better business bureau of this fraudulent activity.

I brought my out of state vehicle to get inspected ($29) and there was almost zero wait to get the inspection started after filling out the brief paperwork.  Due to problems with the onboard computer recently being reset due to a battery problem, I didn't pass inspection the first two times but they informed me what was wrong and why, and what needed to be done and I got it taken care of within the 15 day grace period.

Unfortunately  they forgot to give me an out of state inspection certificate and it caused me to have to make another trip back there to get the little piece of paper so I could get my car registered in Texas.

They are a family owned business and the guys there all seem very friendly, honest and smart.  I will probably come back to Axent again for future mechanical issues with my car.

I bought a second hand SUBURU from Axent Auto and they have helped keep it on the road with professional application of diagnostic and repair skills.I commend them to anyone either seeking a car,or needing to keep your car maintained and functioning.Excellent and intelligent local service!Friendly, too!

Love these guys.  I picked them out about a year ago because they were walking distance to Black Sheep Lodge, so I figured I could go have a burger and a cold pint while I waited for my car to get fixed.

The owner is very professional and friendly, and always takes care of me when I go in.  The mechanics are friendly and knowledgable.  They are reasonably priced and do solid work.  I have an older car that is falling apart, so they have seen me several times (tune-up, fuel pump/filter/pressure guage, brakes, a/c...).  All the work they've done has been something I already knew was wrong with my car, for the most part, so I have never had that "are they making shit up?" feeling, and they never upsell me on a bunch of stuff I don't need.  They also do a free diagnostic - the other reason I chose them in the first place.

Eddy (the owner) even gave me a ride to the DMV so I could get my license replaced while I waited on them to do the last round of repairs.  (I had been headed there when the car started to die and forced me to re-route to the mechanic).  I have recommended many friends go there and I stand by them.  Other people coming in have all seemed happy too.  Give them a shot - they're good guys.

Not sure about all the bad reviews, but there aren't many reviews total so maybe just a few folks had a bad experience?  I can only speak for myself, and I love these guys.  I picked them out about a year ago because they were walking distance to Black Sheep Lodge, so I figured I could go have a burger and a cold pint while I waited for my car to get fixed.

Don't know why I didn't give them 5 the first time, but after the incredible deal they gave me on tires and the prices for an oil change, they've earned it. I've spent a lot of time in the waiting room talking with the owner and you can see he has a very clear goal of making sure the provide what their customers are looking for. I haven't tried one yet, but I'm also highly intrigued by the (still cheaper than Jiffy Lube) green oil change. Also not sure what that entails, but I'm willing to give it a shot because I know Axent wouldn't sell me anything less than their best.

I'll never get auto work done anywhere else again.

Jarret M. | 2011-05-19

brought my Honda s2000 in for a rear main seal replacement.  I was very impressed at the speed of the service and how they were willing to call me to update me on their progress.  Additonally, its nice when a non-dealership repair shop can work on a rare car like mine. I think they have a honda/acura expert there.

I don't know why this places sometimes refers to itself as "Axent Auto" , and sometimes "Accent" auto.

Regardless of the spelling, the store on S. Lamar gets 1 star from me.

Here's why:
There was in ad in last week's Chronicle stating that "Axent" auto did oil changes for $9.99.   No coupon, just an ad.

The g/f needed an oil change the other day, and I told her about the ad I saw.   She was close by, and went in, and sure enough, she got an oil change for a total of $14.97.   She said service was a little slow, but the people were super friendly, and she really liked them.

I had some free time, and remembered I needed an oil change too, so I called them up and asked what the wait would be if I came in for an oil change, and they said that there was no wait at all at the moment, so I headed there.

One of the techs outside greeted me and was super friendly.  He took my keys and I went inside.  The other tech that worked on the truck was super friendly also.  Inside however, the office people, presumably the owners, were a different story.   I told them I'd seen the ad in the Chronicle, and wanted a $9.99 oil change.  He asked if i had the coupon, and when i said no, he said it'd be regular price then.   I asked what that was, and he said $24.99, so i said 'thanks anyway" and started walking out.

"Wait wait", he said.   "We will honor that price.  Accounting gets mad if we don't have that coupon to justify the price, but we'll do it for you.  There is an additional fee for disposal and filter though".

That's fine I said.   The g/f's oil change came out to $14.97, so i knew that already.   Just to be sure though, I asked how much the additional charges were, and he said "$4 or $5".

The guy that took my order then left.   He told the other office guy that I didnt' have a coupon, but that he'd given me the $9.99...totally making a big display about it.

The other guy had me fill out some paperwork, and when the oil change got done, he typed it all in the computer.  It took quite a while for him to put in my info and give me the bill.   In the middle of doing so, he left the office to go talk to someone outside once, while I just sat there waiting.  He came in, typed in some more info, and gave me my bill....for $18.60.

I protested the additional charges.
"This is the cost" the guy said.   "There's an additional fee for disposal and for a filter"
"I know that" i said "the other guy said that it would be $4 or $5".

He pointed to the itemized bill, and showed me the cost.
I told him again that the other guy said that it would be $4 or $5.
"We dont' know what the cost will be until we put it in the computer" said the guy.

Righttttttttttttttt.

I didn't tell him that my g/f had just been in and got an oil change for $14.97.

I just paid and left, and went to meet the g/f to look at her bill.

She was order # 3180, and I was order #3183.
At some point, with the 2 customers in between, the price suddenly changed for a $9.99 oil change.

Examining the bill, it's totally clear that they can arbitrarily doctor the figures to make it come out to whatever they want.

Our bills are almost identical, except the way that they typed it up.  They manually gave me a discount of $16.99, and manually gave her a discount of $20.34.   There's nothing on either of the bills that explains why one is one way and one is the other.

One way just makes makes some customers pay extra.

They arbitrarily decided to charge me more.

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I thought maybe a different guy keyed in the info.
Nope.
I asked the g/f.
The same guy rang up both of our orders.
The same guy put both of our info into the computer.

$8.60 extra for the disposal and filter?
That's ridiculous.  I'm used to paying about $5 extra when I get a normal $19.99 oil change.  I always know that  the extra is about $5.
And that's what it should have been here.
And that's what the one owner told me.

The other guy keyed in the info and played with the figures and made it come out to charge me an extra $3.70.

They were trying to scam me and make a couple extra bucks.   Well...
My g/f was totally impressed with the service, and had planned to make them her 'go-to' shop for maintenance and repairs.  But with the evidence of their dishonesty and arbitrary pricing, she and I will never go back.   So the extra $3.70 that they  sneakily got out of me actually ended up costing them hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in the long run.

I have both the invoices and breakdowns here in front of me.
I can take a photo if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Yes, it was only a couple dollars extra.
But if they can arbitrarily overcharge customers on simple things like an oil change, think how much they can overcharge you on major work.

I have had 2 experiences with Accent Auto:

1) I live about a mile away from this place and have driven past it a gazillion times but hadn't noticed it until I was on my way home from work several months ago and my engine started overheating when I pulled up to the stoplight right in front of Accent Auto. It was a sign, I tell ya! I pulled in and called their on-call number and  while I was a little nervous leaving my car there overnight with the key just inside the door, they took great care of my car. They kept me up to date on all the repairs that needed to be done AND the cost at the end of the day was incredibly reasonable.

2) I went in there the other day to get my car state inspected, I was out of there in 20 minutes flat. Fast, inexpensive, friendly service. Can't beat that!

Kinda rude staff, but completed my inspection quickly. 3 stars, no more, no less.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!   I drive a Subaru Outback wagon and my back latch broke, so the door was stuck closed.  My back windshield had recently been broken so I figured glass somehow got stuck in the latch.   I took it to Accent Auto near my house...on referral from a friend.  They wanted to charge me $400 for an entire new back door.....they didn't even open up the latch and see if there was glass in it or try to fix it.  They got my door open but the latch was still broken so it wouldn't close.  They charged me $42.50 and told me to come back the next day and they'd open the latch to get the glass out and see if that was the issue.  They said if glass was the issue they'd just charge me another $42.50...if not then I'd need a new door.  HA!  Right, sure guys.  I left and went straight to River City....it was fixed in 10 minutes...for only $20.
I was very pissed and would NOT recommend this place to anyone.  These guys don't know what they're doing and will try to overcharge you because you are female or assume you're stupid.

My cars are second hand-i get first hand service at accent autos-with professional mechanics devoting necessary time to ailing autos.
I like the way they interact positively with all customers, and have commended them to friends for courtesy ,intelligence and actually assisting we whose cars are at risk in Austin summer heat.
COOL business! COOL people!

Phil D. | 2009-09-29

Just had my oil change, tire rotation, and inspection done here yesterday... seemed pretty trustworthy.  I like when a mechanic shows me what he's recommending (yeah, that transmission fluid is gunky).

Also seemed interesting that the inspection is pretty thorough... both myself and another customer were busted for things that had passed inspection at other places.  What this says about the integrity of the industry (and the sneakiness of the average driver) is pretty sad, but at least they want safe cars on the road.

However, I drove away with a tire that was going flat... apparently while rotating the tires they didn't notice a big 'ol nail that went from OK to a fast leak.  Upon my immediate return they plugged it and promised free repairs if the plug doesn't work.  Good way of dealing with a mistake.

3 1/2 stars rounded down to 3, 'cuz I spent twice as much as I'd hoped (despite their oil change and inspection being cheaper than market average).

Mark L. | 2009-01-17

Living in Texas and owning a car means that you need to get the damn thing inspected every year. Well my car needed it and I dropped it off at Accent (my office is across the street) for the inspection and an oil change. Well two hours later it was ready - the inspector doesn't even get there until 10AM - and a new sticker was on my car.
-Not sure how they are for repairs but they did what they were hired to do.
