Reviews on Front Street Auto Sales

A prior reviewer said they make it clear they do not inspect the cars for safety or mechanical integrity. They didn't say that to me; if they had said it I wouldn't say much of anything against them. To be on the safe side, maybe they should have said "due to the condition of battery, brakes, steering, and gear-shifting in this vehicle, we can't say with certainty that you'll still be alive at the end of your test drive. Have fun!"

Reviewer also said 'smarter men than me would take advantage of this fact and drive it to their mechanic'. I did exactly that, and what my mechanic found (things which would have completely escaped my notice) was that the car had about $1000 worth of problems that could be found and evaluated in a 40 minute check-over, as well as potentially a couple thousand more.

On the plus side, they were reasonably polite and didn't try to pressure me (nor try to drop the price to a reasonable level) when I told them I had an idea what a mess the car was underneath the exterior. Car was discounted some, but only a person getting free labor (his or her own labor, probably) would find it a worthwhile buy and the salesperson didn't disclose a thing. Don't do business with these folks unless you're your own mechanic, or your mechanic checks the vehicle

I called ahead about a car on their website. When I got there, they told me someone had already taken it for a test drive and it was already running. I was immediately suspicious, and the first thing I did when I got to the car was turn it off. I let it cool off for a few minutes while I looked at the seats, then tried to start it. It didn't start.

This is a car with no warrantee sold as-is. I would have been stuck with a car that didn't start. They clearly were trying to trick me into buying it without knowing it didn't start. That's dishonest business.

This place sells a wide variety of cheap cars in a variety of conditions. This is buyer-beware auto shopping. They make it clear that they do not inspect the cars for safety or mechanical integrity. Heck, they don't even empty the ashtrays.

They will let you take out the cars unsupervised. Smarter men than me would take advantage of this fact and drive it to their mechanic.

They are friendly and easy to work with. With a mixture of skill and luck, it is possible to drive out of there with a servicable $1,500 car. However, there is nothing stopping you from spending $2,500 on a domestic sedan with bald tires, no muffler, 250,000 miles and smoke coming out everywhere but the broken tail pipe.
