Reviews on M & M Investment Cars

I purchased a 1999 Toyota Tacoma from M&M Investment Cars about 5 weeks ago. I live in Eugene so it is about a two hour drive from me to get up there. I called and spoke with John prior to making the trip up. We agreed to a sale price of $8,500 over the phone the in the morning and I drove up in the afternoon. The sale price was $9,000 but he said he would take $500 off. The Blue Book value was around $7,800 but as a sales guy myself I understand companies and salesman need to make money too so the $700 difference didn't bother me, barring that the vehicle was as pristine as it looked in the pics and from what John told me on the phone. I specifically asked what were some problem areas on the vehicle that I should know before making the two hour trip. He didn't mention anything, said it was great and as good as it looked in the pics.

The sales process wasn't high pressure and they allowed me to take the truck for a spin for as long as I wanted. My wife and I looked it over and drove it for about an hour and be it that it is a 16 year old vehicle with 180K miles it still seemed to be in very good shape. We decided to make the purchase and begin the application and paperwork process. That's when the troubles began...

My wife and I both have high credit scores. Mine is considered excellent and hers is very good. We only put down $100 and elected to finance the rest. We sat in John's office for about 90 minutes as we did the paper work and he called the credit union to see that the loan would be approved. After over an hour of not hearing back, he said he was going to lunch and recommend that we do the same and that he would call back as soon as he heard back from the credit union. We waited in Portland for a couple hours and never heard back. We called M&M Investment and the gentleman I spoke with said that John was busy and that the credit union was closed so we wouldn't hear back until Monday (this was on Saturday). John never bothered to mention that to us.

We drove home to Eugene assuming the loan would be approved given our credit scores and income. We didn't hear back from John on Monday either so I called on Tuesday, to which he said it was approved. Even though he didn't follow through and call us back as he stated he would, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. No big deal. But I also said that on the way back home to Eugene I noticed that the horn didn't work, and that he never mentioned that, I asked if there was anything he could do about that. He said "no, we sold the car as is, check the manual, and congrats on the new purchase." Essentially giving me the blow off.

Now, while I do take responsibility for not taking the vehicle to a mechanic (I don't live in Portland so I don't know anyone who could do such work) over the following couple of weeks I ran into a couple of significant problems with the newly purchased truck. When I would make sharp turns the battery connectors kept coming off, shutting down power to the vehicle. One time as I was getting onto a freeway ramp, causing the entire vehicle to shut down. I replaced the connectors and had to purchase a battery bracket to keep it in place. Then my radiator began leaking and I now have to replace it. Again, I purchased the vehicle 5 short weeks ago.

John insisted that M&M Investment Cars's marketing is through word of mouth and that it is their goal to ensure customers have quality cars and become repeat buyers and spread the word to others. Well, I can assure you I will not be one of those repeat buyers, nor will I preach to the mountain tops how great the company is. I wanted to be that person. I appreciate quality sales and service, be it that is also my line of work but M&M does not fit that bill. No confirmation on the loan being approved, not following through with follow up, a busted horn, shoddy battery work, and a broken radiator all lead to a negative  overall review.

Great experience. Johnny was nice and very on top of the cars he was selling which I have found rare at car dealerships. He answered all my questions and met all my expectations and needs. I got a awesome truck and feel great about my buying experience.

I'm only giving one star because you have to.  Saw an ad on craigslist for a 95 truck that is still on now says it has 98,000 original miles, pics looks good, when we went to look at it, and drove it, right off the bat you could hear a wining sound in the transmission, in addition several things were not working, such as air, temp control, etc.  I myself am pretty positive the odometer stopped working for a lot of miles.  We went in and told the guy Eric who seemed nice enough about the issues, and that we wanted to take the car to our mechanic, at first he was ok with it, and then after that, he said hold on wait I will have my mechanic look over everything and hopefully fix it, then you can take it back to your mechanic, in the meantime he ran our credit, which is a hit on our credit, he then said expect a call within 4 hours , that was 3 days ago and no call, so obviously the truck is a piece of crap.  Not good business practice at all.  Would not suggest going here.

I am giving these guys 1 star for 1 reason.  They sell pieces of crap.  I responded to there add on craigslist for a toyota tacoma that seemed a little too good to be true, and it was.  After taking it to my mechanic for a pre purchase inspection, I found out that there were serious issues with the truck that of course weren't disclosed to me.  The only positive that I will give is that they weren't pushy in the least.  But then how could you sleep at night if your job was pushing people to buy crap.

BUYER BEWARE.........  I would say that if you choose to go here, GET THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A PROFESSIONAL FIRST!!!
