I don't buy cars often.  I like to buy good quality cars and squeeze every dollar out of them.  Part of that is because I'm trying to be wise with my finances but part of that honestly is that  I've always hated the "car buying experience".  

With a child heading off to college, it was time to get a smaller car.  We wanted to move from away from the mini-van (praise the Lord!) and towards an SUV.  After doing my homework, I found the right model for us and began shopping.  I came across David's car on the internet.  It was priced either at or (most often) below other dealers and private parties pricing.  (I must have thoroughly shopped over 100 vehicles before making a call on my top 5 list).

Somewhat dreading heading in to the process not knowing much about D'Angelo and fully expecting "the sell" to begin immediately, I was really glad when I hung up from making the appointment to feel like this was just a simple business inquiry type, cordial and respectful phone call.  I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and figured it would be when I got on site, or the test drive.  Never happened.  There were no stereotypical sleezy used car tactics to speak of.  No pressure.  None.  Just two guys talking about the car matter of factly.

That's all well and VERY good, but when it all boils down, what really matters is the car.  While I'm not a fan of the hard sell, I can deal with it for the right machine.  It's just hoops, but glad not to have to jump through them.  Here's what separated the wheat from the chaff-  This particular car had 86k miles on it.  His Mechanic did the full 90k mile maintenance.  Water pump, belts, everything.  About 2k in tune up and replacements.  I had this verified by my own personal mechanic.  This is unheard of in the used car industry (I know because I was raised in it).  All my guy could find was that a high beam was out (I just put in 6 bucks for a bulb tonight, done).

I fully expected that on top of the final negotiated price, I'd plan to drop at least 1500 to get the car to a place of confidence.  Not the case.  This was presented road ready.  We came to an agreeable price-point and 45 minutes later we were driving it home.

Way to flip the used car buying experience upside-down David!  I'm coming to you when I look for a mini cooper!

Buying a car at a dealership, used especially, is a stressful experience right? They are trying to get you! That's what I assumed on my first time buying from someone other than a private seller. Turns out, by chance, I stumbled onto what David (D'Anglelo) called an "un-dealer". Basically, what it's not supposed to be. He explained their business model and what they paid for the car I wanted to buy. They have a small inventory of (extremely well maintained) hand selected cars for people that want a VW GTI, or an Audi, or a Mini Cooper S. Etc. They acquire top used cars for people that know what a good car is. Advertising is minimal, word of mouth does more than enough, appointments are requested, and a no pressure father and son run the show. The only salesmen slogan I heard was "the car sells itself" which is spot on, especially during a test drive in a great car. Not much else need be said. All in all a laid back, no pressure buying experience. David even delivered the car to me on the other side of town to fit into my cramped schedule knowing a 2 hour MAX ride was in his future. I would recommend to anybody looking for a car.
