Reviews on University Volkswagen Mazda

I have to say, I have never dealt with any other dealer, or service department. That seems silly, but the truth is, no one has ever made me feel like they've earned my business like the people at University Mazda/Volkswagen.

Firstly, the sales team is excellent. Keith responds to my crazy e-mails at all times of night. He is all about giving you the information YOU need to buy the car that fits YOU. He is absolutely selfless in the way he deals with his customers, he addresses your concerns, and helps figure out a solution to issues you may be having. He will tell you his honest opinion, but he will say, "I don't want you to take this the wrong way but,". The fact that a SALES person will use a phrase you are terrified of hearing from your friends makes you realize that he is really concerned about your best interest. Plus, he is the least pushy salesman ever. The first time he took me on a test drive he knew I wasn't going to buy that day, but he could see in my eyes that I wanted to drive the car. He got the keys, we pumped the jams, and he let me drive around. He will be my go-to guy for forever. Even if he starts selling toilets I will buy them from him.

James Flowers, one of the Sales managers is more than happy to help you get the best deal possible for your trade-ins and your purchases. It is obvious that he doesn't want to screw you in any shape or form, so he goes out of his way to find deals for you. He seriously makes looking at credit and trade-ins painless, even if it's not the news you want to hear.

Tavio, who is the finance guy, is super awesome. Makes paper signing incredibly easy. He'll go through options for warranties, for financing, and will answer all of your questions. However, he doesn't seem to understand how to handle panic attacks so leave that for your sales man. He is, however, super into New Mexico's lovely outdoors, so you'll always have something to talk about!

The Service team has changed since the last time I took my vehicle in, but I feel like they're still in good hands.
Jon S. is still the man of the hour in the parts department, but Alan is my new go-to in service. Seriously, I am Facebook official friends with both of them, and they don't seem to mind answering my questions when I call, or giving me WAY too honest opinions that are great to hear.

Randy, one of the owners is one of the nicest guys in the world. He will come up and talk to you and talk with you about any issues you're having, concerns, or he will just come keep you company. He is the absolute best, but make sure to make fun of him for the pictures on his website. I'm hoping if enough people do it, he will change them.

Basically, I love all of you guys. You make me feel happy, and welcome, and you have popcorn.

I would recommend this dealership to everyone I know (in fact I already have sent people their way). Car buying can be exciting, but sometimes it's the worst headache in the world. After a bad, traumatizing car accident that left my car totaled, I need to get in something quick. Fearing for my safety in a smaller car, I was looking for a smaller to mid-sized SUV. I went to nearly ever dealer in town, test drove a million cars, and nothing seemed right. Every dealer also pushed different vehicles and would not listen to me and what I wanted... That was until I went to University.
The second I pulled in to the parking lot I was greeted by Carl. He actually listened to me about my safety concerns and asked questions to better understand what I wanted. We walked through a few rows of cars and finally went to the last available Tiguan on the lot. I sat in the car and knew it was the one. No one had to sell me anything, they listened to me and let me decide!

From here the sales process was so seamless! It took all of an hour to get insurance coverage moved, papers signed, and keys in hand. They didn't try to push me around in price, they worked with my budget instead. Bob the GM and Brian the finance person made sure I was taken care of by all, and every single person I encountered went above and beyond. They were so incredibly grateful for my business, but I was more grateful for their hospitality.

I tried to buy a VW from this dealer TWICE!! Both times ended up with me walking out frustrated. The first time I took my 8 month old '04 Altima as a trade for a 2004 VW Bug. I was told that they would only give me $10,000 on the car because they couldn't sell it and it would go to auction... Which is CRAP! I saw several other used cars on the lot they were selling like mine!

The second time I was trading in my 3 year old 2008 F-150 FX4 for a beautiful brand new CC. I was told, again, that they would give me $9,000 for an $18,000 truck because it would have to go to auction because 1) the spot lights on the door jambs "degraded the structural integrity of the cab" 2) the 1.5" suspension leveling kit altered the factory driving characteristics of the truck 3) they are not in the business of selling trucks. And all of this was after the test drive and regardless of my excellent credit and credit union check in hand. They wouldn't even try to work with me and I felt, in both cases, I was written off before I walked from the parking lot to the showroom floor!

Horrible customer service all together... Not to mention the car salesman scraped the bumper on the curb when driving it off the display hahaha!!

I started off my first real car buying experiences all wrong, by just plunging in without checking the temperature first. I went to a Toyota dealership first not knowing what I really wanted. Went to look at the 2013 corolla and somehow ended up applying for a 2012 rav4 that looked run down. Then they ran my credit wrong and my payments were astronomical. I walked.

Flash forward one month (yes, I was scarred from the Toyota debacle), plenty of research done, and it was between a passat and a mazda3. That's when I started to look into dealerships. I was skeptical (previous Toyota experience aside, I've heard mixed reviews on this dealership). I am so glad we made the decision to go down there.

Wayne (Internet sales, I believe) was great, not pushy at all. He was aware we knew what we wanted and didn't try to up sell. We ended up falling in love with a 2013 passat with barely any miles on it, got a great deal on it. Also, Brian in financing is just as great! He found us a rate we were comfortable with, then kept working at it and cut that rate in half.

So very happy with my new car and I am extremely pleased with the customer service we received.  Definitely spreading the news!

Just had one of the best car buying experiences here.  Whenever I read a positive dealership review, I think "That's impossible - all car dealers are scum, this guy's a sucker."  I want you to know - this is a genuine review - I am NOT A sucker, and I strongly recommend these guys to anyone in the market.  They worked with me, they were flexible on prices, they respected my wishes not to play those games.

I saw on an awesome car on the internet that I liked, and went by just to look at, maybe test drive for a free gift card (which I never got, by the way).  I was willing to purchase the car, but did not think they would be able to get it to a deal I was happy with (Man, I am cheap - especially at buying cars).  They did not pressure me, they cut through all the crap, and got me a great deal on pristine used car.  Then, we are finishing things, I noticed a scrape on the bumper, and asked if they would fix it for me as part of the deal.  No problem, and if it's cheap enough, we will just tint your windows for free (a deal so kind I actually refused).

I mean, seriously - the most painless car buying process ever.  And, I am one of those hagglers that love to torture salesmen as much as they torture us.  We will stay until close to make sure your wife likes it.  We will stay after close to ensure you are all set up in your vehicle (seriously - I could have programmed my own phone to the bluetooth, but they insisted, even after I offered to just lie on the VW satisfaction survey and say he he programmed it).

I cannot stress that you look up Eric Mitchell.  I think he does internet sales mostly, but he's got a great, low-pressure approach.  Seriously, just a chill salesman - none of that crap you see at other places.

Have had my car serviced here for awhile and they are pretty good.  I stopped going when a new dealership opened that was more convenient to work, but I am planning to return.  If Adam still works in service - you should ask for him - he is the best!!!

I was taking my first solo road trip in my newly purchased 2003 VW Jetta, visiting some high school friends in Las Cruces and Albuquerque when I had a little accident. On my way out of ABQ, I hit a curb... hard. I had to turn my wheel pretty far to the right to get the car to drive straight, and it made a strange thumping noise when driving. Being a newly licensed driver in a state I haven't lived in for a few years, I was terrified and felt sick to my stomach. I limped it to a friend's house and called this location at 7:30AM.

I had my car towed by a company recommended to be by Adam Hoopman at University VW Mazda. I sat for an hour while someone with an appointment had an alignment done, in a nice, clean waiting room. Whenever an employee walked by, they were friendly. I didn't see a grumpy face my entire visit at this location. After about 2 hours, I got my estimate back for the damage I had done. The damage was actually less than I expected, but still hurt a little bit. Adam kept reassuring me that it could have been worse, and that I could have been injured or done actual body damage to the car. Everyone at the dealership soothed my anxiety when they could see me getting worked up again.

My car was fixed by the afternoon. This was with no appointment. I was able to continue on my road trip and make it to my next destination just a few hours behind. The people at University were nothing but very polite and professional. My car drives like I never hit that curb, and I have nothing but good feelings about this place. Thank you to everyone there who was so kind and understanding.

This only has to do with the Service Dept.
We brought in our 2011 Jetta TDI to have the glove box, driver window noise(recall) and left rear window fixed as the car will be off warranty before we get home.
Dropped the car off at 8am and recieved a call at 5:30 pm that they had to order a new glove box and a right rear window motor. I told them it was the left rear, oh okay, well we ordered one.
Went to pick the car up and made sure it was the left and they said it was.
Get a call a couple of weeks later that the parts were in.
We show up at 8am to drop it off. The guy says so you have it in to replace the glove box and right rear window motor? HUH, GD, so the guy calls to make sure the motor fits both sides, it does. Okay so I remind them of the window noise again because they didn't fix it the first time. yes we will fix it.
Guy tells me the driver is on his way back to take us home. Again, HUH, I just saw the guy leave with a van full of people about 3-5 min ago, whatever. 1:15 min later the guy shows up. But wait, he has to go get gas first, what, he couldn't have done this on the way back? Jeez.
The bigger thing is the whole time I am waiting for a ride I am running through my mind the window thing.  Now bear with me as I know this is getting long but it has to be.
So the first time they had the car it took them 8 hours to figure out that they needed to order a glove box and a window motor. Now I will assume the window motor took a couple of mins. But the door if they tested the motor takes substantially longer. But did they really test the motor of either door, or did they just say to hell with it and order the motor because they did say that these are a problem, I believe this since the back window might have been rolled down ten times in a year.
This is where you have to pay attention. If they tested the wrong door which I believe they did since they had the car all day and told me not once but twice that it was the right rear window motor then is my left rear bad also but they don't want to admit they screwed up. I mean I have a new motor in the left rear but I have a feeling they never tested that one. Or if i am lucky they never tested either one and I am good. the only thing that pisses me off about that is, then why did I have to go w/o a car for the whole day.
So after all this they still didn't fix the window noise.
I am not saying the other dealer is any better but I would never come back here if I lived in Albuquerque.

I gave them a star.... because the New Manager wrote to me and assured me things have changed.

I sincerely hope so.... so I will plan my next service with University VW in Albs.
