Reviews on Larry H. Miller American Toyota Albuquerque

The team at LHM Toyota [Alameda @ I25] have always been exceptional. It is almost a given that whatever the problem is, they know the solution and proceed to resolve an issue at promptly as humanly possible Special mention to MEL ROSAS who has been our customer service rep for the life of the vehicle. How does he do it? Soooo efficient, cooperative, productive--even cheerful!! Thank goodness for him. He has kept my elderly parents and me safely on the road for years. He is our guardian angel. We cannot thank him enough nor give him enough credit. Although, truthfully, everyone on the service/maintenance team is completely outstanding. I only wish I knew all their names so I could personally mention each of them. I only hope they do not assume they are taken for granted, because they are most certainly not--not by this driver, anyway.

Historically has been reliable.  However, some critical work they did for us failed in the middle of nowhere, at night, in frigid temps and freezing rain, with kids in the car.  Not good.  We managed to limp along and got the vehicle to another Toyota dealer out of town. That dealer said the work performed by Miller on Alameda "looked strange" (sloppy) and the repair had failed.  The out-of-town dealer re-repaired it and all is fine now.  Cost us a day out of town and a hotel night.  Won't be servicing our vehicle here anymore.

Going to preface this the info that I was ready to buy. I'd like to think I played it cool, but if you're going to buy a new prius, there's only two games in town, and they're both under the same umbrella org, so I went with the closest one.

My salesman must have already made his bonus for that month b/c he was basically like "if you want to buy today, cool, if not, no prob, I don't give a hoot if not."....which was really nice as it was clear that they *wanted* to make the sale, but didn't pressure it like some of the other reviewers may have experienced.

Made it very clear what my ceiling was, what I expected in extras, and what my wiggle room was. Might have been able to score one or two more little extras, but to walk out at $26K even, for a brand new prius, with zero % financing, I was pretty happy. Might have had something to do with the fact that it was the first brand new car of my life but hey, can you blame a kid? Hopefully your experience will be like mine.

Greatest experience ever. Mike Nguyen is the guy to buy from. Any of the salespeople are great. They run to get it done for you! Literally   Greatest customer service

There isn't a wide selection of used cars here. Sales people are pushy and spend most of their time talking over you or telling you what you want. No thanks

Kristin J. | 2014-08-14

Went to look at a Prius and get a price in writing. They were the normal used car friendly until the sales manager came over for the negotiation. Everything was buy buy buy today. Such high pressure!! We said up front that we were not buying today as this was the first place we looked but oh noooo. This fell on deaf ears it was if I make it this price will you buy it today. NOOOOO!! I wouldn't buy anything from you if you were giving it away! It was immediately like all those car sales horror scenes everyone dreads when shopping for a car. To the dealership: if you are so good at what you do and get all these awards stop the high pressure sales and I imagine your quality of business will pick up. Oh yeah, and while you're at it why not give fair trade-in values. 2k less than the other 4 dealerships in the immediate area including Carmax. My advice to the Yelpers, steer clear of this snake oil place!!

P. S. Make sure the salesman doesn't leave the keys to the for sale veh in your car during the appraisal. They will call you and to verify they are there, ok, but then demand I drive back to return them asap. Come on! I can see the dealership from my house drive yourself over here and get them you lazy people!

This review is for the service department only. I brought my corolla in on a parts recall and they checked me in right away, put down protective mats and plastic in the car and asked if I wanted it washed; a free service they provide. As soon as I sat down, fresh coffee was made and coffee cake offered. They were dealing with a cut DSL line that the power company accidentally cut and so many computers were down, but they were cheerful and managing, not cowed and angry at the tech disaster. They have a little store which offers car and truck gadgets like license plates, steering wheel covers, etc.
They also offer a courtesy shuttle to ferry you anywhere you would like while your car is being repaired.
Dealing with car repair is never as fun as say, a barrel of monkeys, but they have made the process as painless as possible.

We had a deal on a Subaru we looked at this weekend. Hiram shook our hand on the lot. 10,400 trade with FULL PRICE on the Subaru. My husband went in to start paperwork and he came back and said oh no 8400 for the trade. We countered with meeting in the middle. We had to leave to pick up my son. They called and they renegged on everything they offered. Seriously? Not even meeting in the middle....They are sending the car we wanted to auction rather than honoring the deal they offered us.

Previously, several years ago, we had purchased a brand new Scion TC from them and had a bad experience with their service (an added optional item to a BRAND NEW car, went to pick it up and the windshield was totally cracked top to bottom- they did not want to fix it and wanted us to go thru our insurance..... seriously?) we are DONE with them FOREVER!

I'm not sure what the point of making an appointment for an oil change is. There's always a BS excuse for a 1.5 hour wait or more!  These guys have their heads up their "yes man's" butt. Only thing cool is donuts in waiting area but you have to get there early to get them. Oh and there's coffee too....oh but its usually empty. Dang it

this place requires two ratings- one for service/maintenance + one for sales. i've always had great service from the shop, so i'd give 4.5 stars for that, but i'd give the sales side 2 stars. i made an appointment with a salesman to view some pre-owned cars, but when i got there he was busy, so i had to wait for him (so what's the point of making an appt?). then as we were looking at cars, it became clear he didn't have much experience because he couldn't tell me much about what i could get with my budget. he showed me the two oldest cars on the lot; one smelled like cat pee, and the other still had kids' barrettes + happy meals toys on the floor. i was ready to make a purchase from here b/c of my good experiences w/the shop, but the sales experience totally turned me off.

I  have purchased five vehicles in the eleven years I have been living in New Mexico.  all of which were thru this dealership.  In fact, two in the past year.  So as you can see I am a loyal customer.  I absolutely love my Toyota's.

At the American Toyota dealership there is a salesman name Hiram Herrera.  He is the only salesman I will deal with.  He has sold me all of my cars.  he is professional, courteous, has excellent work ethics and above all always gives me good deals.  he is the only reason I return.

Unfortunately, there is a saleman behind the counter named Suji that is always rude to me.  In fact, he is rude to everyone,  He is not professional, courteous and doesn't appear to have any work ethics.

I will give a couple of examples:

1.  In March of this year I purchased a used 2011 Toyota Prius from your dealership.  Mr. Hiram Herrera was the salesman.  It only came with one key.  Hiram told me that he left messages with the previous owner to obtain the other key.  We quickly learned how expensive they are.  A couple of months went by and again he didn't have any luck.  So he asked Suji what the dealership can do for me being I only received one key and I am a loyal customer.  He stated that I must purchase a key from the part department.  It's out of his hands and when you purchase a used vehicle it is what it is.  When Hiram told me that I was livid.  I just paid $29,000 for a used car and now I have to pay over $500.00 for a key.  Thar's outrageous.  If I had know that I would not have bought the car.  Why should I pay for someone else's incompetence which is the previous owner.

2.  I often receive flyers stating to come in to see your vehicles.  Just for coming there is a free gift.  They are usually ten dollar gift cards from either Wal-Mart, Target Or Smith's.  So when I receive them I come to the dealership to have them redeemed.  Recently, I have been receiving two gift cards.  One goes to my home and the one to my post office box.  Both addressed to me.  I went to redeem them and Sui, the salesman told me that I was only allowed one redemption.  Then he proceeded to ask me how I got two?  I told him they send one to my home and the other to my post office box.  The way he asked as though I was lying.  He got really angry, trying to intimidate me and stated that he would do it this time but no more. What's up with that?  Your company sends them to me.  I don't steal them or get them from anyone else.  In addition, he was extremely mean and nasty.   He is a salesman behind the counter.  He is supposedly to set an example for his colleagues and subordinates on how to be courteous and treat the customer with respect.  He represents American Toyota.  Instead, he holds himself as belligerent and non professional.  What an excellent example of management!

In conclusion, I did not the key.  With two vehicle payments: one at $466 a month and the other at $420 a month I do not have the money to purchase another.  The key I do have I hold on to it for dear life praying I never lose it.  For if I do, I know I am out of luck.  I feel that with as many vehicles I have purchased from this dealership I should get an extra key at no charge.  I don't think I am asking too much.

And as for Mr. Takuro Fujiwara aka "Suji" the salesman, change your attitude!  If not I will boycott your dealership and purchase my Toyota's elsewhere.  Word of mouth grows fast and is to be know the best advertising.  Especially if it's negative.  I spreads like wild fires.  Wouldn't you say?

I bought a certified pre-owned 2013 Hyundai elantra GT here. I love the car and it was priced to sell, I got it for about 5k less than the book value (and only 9k miles on it). I was able to get 2.99% financing on it through my credit union -- though my advice is to apply at a credit union beforehand and get pre approved for an amount, just because the lowest rate they could offer me with dealer financing was 5.99%. The salesperson I worked with was alright but kind of annoying. When I was working with my credit union to get approved, the salesperson wouldn't stop hounding me about needing a down payment. I was approved for 100% financing and didn't need a down payment. Then, he said someone else wanted the car and was willing to put cash down immediately. At that point I was sick of dealing with him and told him to let the other person have it, I would go somewhere else and get a different car for the same value. He let up but it was really annoying and I definitely had to take a strong tone with him. Then, we went into the manager's office. The manager then said that the salesperson said we were putting down a down payment and at that point my head almost exploded. After going through the whole "my credit union financed me 100% stop trying to get $$ from me" shpiel again, he quietly drew up the contract and we signed and were on our way. It was a day long pain in my butt, but I am also a first time car buyer so I'm not sure if this is a pretty standard experience. Other than that, I love my car. One thing though: the salesman lied and said my car had automatic doesn't. Probably my own fault for not checking. My salesperson was Hiram H. I don't recommend him.

So I've been to this Toyota dealership and the one down on Eubank near the freeway.  I got better service at this one.... but apparently that was in the past.  I ordered a few parts and scheduled service and I'm already getting a bad feeling.  The parts and service department do not talk to one another at all.  I was told by service to call parts and then parts tells me to call service.  Then I get a phone call threatening to send back my parts even though I already made an appointment (before the parts department phone call) to have the parts installed.  They never leave a phone number to call a specific person back and the people you talk to say it's all taken care of.... but I still get phone calls.  Ugh

---Update ----
So for the service.... they tried to sign me up for a maintenance contract even though I didn't want one.  Things were explained differently over the phone vs. in person with how things work with the 60k mile vs. the "contract" which i didn't want anyway since I don't get most of my maintenance done at the dealership.  Needless to say, I won't be back.  I will say that their prices are comparable to other places in town so you won't get ripped off for the cost of the services delivered, but their communication style needs to be worked on.

So I have a standard security feature that was factory installed on my Toyota. They didn't know how to use it so my car would start.  Sigh.....    I would expect that a Toyota dealership knows how to use all factory installed features on a Toyota vehicle.

The work seems to be good, meaning they fix things okay to where it is usually fixed, but why did they say I had to pay $70+ for a plastic hub cap they broke when doing a wheel alignment? After haggling with them, they agreed to accept half the responsibility and reduced the cost $35. They do have some give if you haggle with them.

Phenomenal crew! Michelle makes sure everything works out perfectly for customers and Renee is as good as it gets when it comes to a personable, knowledgable salesperson. Don't hesitate to go visit them if you need a vehicle, they'll see it through!

The wife was in there today to buy a Tacoma and we could not have gotten a better deal. Chris G and his boss Clay Schroff did a great job getting us a great car at a fantastic job

I know, I know! The yes man is sooooo annoying on TV.However, if y'all want a great, professional, and friendly sales person....ask for Grant! He didn't hassle  us into a sale. We had no idea what vehicle we wanted to purchase. After test driving 5 SUV's at 4 different dealerships....we knew we were "sold" here! Our experience could only have been better if they gave us the the vehicle for free. Thanks Grant.

Bought my new taco here.  Good experience, had my own financing.  In waiting room for first *free * oil change.  Let's see of they can pull it off in less than an hour...  Wow.  Did it in less than 35 minutes.  Nice work.

Terrible sales associates and sales management specifically Justin and his manager Alan.  I was asked to fill out some paperwork including a credit history report. When I asked why Justin said it was mandatory in New Mexico and something about the Patriot Act.  I told him I would sign to facilitate the process but that he does not have permission to run my credit until we have an agreement of purchase price.  We never agreed to a purchase price do to what I felt was a very low offer on my trade.

I made sure Justin and Alan knew not to run my credit and even had their verbal acknowledgement that no credit will be  run until everything was agreed upon.

A day later I received notice that American Toyota ran my credit.

Unacceptable sales behavior by associate and management.

Purchased my Prius from them and regret it!
1. Promised to sell me the car for $17,000: Sold it for $19,000
2. Promised me 5% financing: Gave me 18% financing. Refinanced through my bank 30 days later for 8%.
3. Promised to detail my car since it was filthy when I bought it: Still waiting 2 years later.
4. Promised to get me another smart key since it was supposed to come with 2 but only came with 1 (and that one was falling apart): Still waiting 2 years later. Said it would cost $400 to get it from them. Ordered it from eBay for $70 and programmed it myself - works perfect.

Contacted them several times to get these issues resolved and I was told too bad. Partly my fault for not thoroughly reading the contract word for word, I should have read what they snuck into the actual contract and not trusted it to be the same as what was on the sales slip from our negotiations.

An absolutely awful Dealership. Crap staff with zero phone etiquette at all. They have zero concept of good communication and are lousy at setting service expectations. The dealership frequently stocks out of parts needed for recalls. Service is ridiculously expensive. Sales is awful and they are masters at playing crappy head games. I've had much better experiences with Garcia Honda and Perfection Honda. Sometimes what makes the difference on what car to go with is the dealer and not the car. 2nd worse in town behind Univers(h)it(t)y VW.
