Reviews on Hertz Car Sales

Bottom line: yes, they have prices lower than KBB quotes. But there was not much that was positive about my purchase experience here. For what I saved in $$, I lost a lot of time on the phone/emailing customer service reps at corporate. If you only care about getting the best price, and it doesn't bother you when people make empty promises, then this might be a good fit for you. But the next time I have to buy a car, I will go elsewhere.

Service: our sales associate seemed to be there only to chaperone me as I test drove different cars. He did not know many details about the different makes/models and was staring at his phone while I drove. The sales staff in general are friendly, though not especially helpful.

Post-sale: Typically I prefer to handle paying tax + license fees at the DMV myself, but here I was told I had to pay their $379 license/reg/paperwork fee. So I did. Long story short: I did not get my license plate until 4 months after I paid for the car. Each month, I had to contact my rep to request a new temporary license. Each month they assured me that it was on its way and everything was fine. After 3 months of waiting, I called corporate to see if I could get a different answer. After about an hour on the phone, plus emails, I was told I had to take the car to get re-smogged. Also I was told they were missing paperwork that I'd provided when I bought the car. Super frustrating.

Promotional (Not) Perk: Supposedly, when you buy the car, you get enough Hertz Gold Rewards Points (2,750) for a free one-week rental. When I tried to book a weekly rental via the website, the reservation website said I only had enough points for a 2 day rental. Not cool. Also turns out there are blackout periods.

The car itself: Runs fine, but sometimes the power lock button doesn't work. Strange for a 1 yr-old vehicle.
