Reviews on Harwick Auto Sales

Zachary M. | 2011-09-25

It's a shame I didn't go with my instinct before I purchased a car with this place. I understand they're not a giant dealership and I wasn't purchasing a brand new car under warranty, but it's the beginning that makes the end of this story more credible.

First of all, despite the problems I've had with my car and the repairs it's undergone in the short time I've owned it, this is a review of the quality of serviced received from this company before, during, and after my vehicle purchase.

Their website is decent and their cars look great. However, the little note that says you can make an after hours appointment is a lie. At the time I was purchasing a car, I hadn't owned one in over two years.  I was off work it would be 5pm by the time I could be at the sales office and of course, this meant I had to find a ride. It was usually never a problem for me to find a ride though. However, I called to see if they could stay open an extra 30 minutes so I could come test drive the car after work and I was denied. Between calls, emails, and texts for the next two weeks I asked questions and even tried to set up a few appointments for a test drive, only responding with vague, short, answers and ultimately denied for any request for him to be open for an extra 30 minutes. (I can't imagine I'm the only person ever with the request that he stays open until 5:30pm on a week day for the sake of possibly making a purchase.) The salesman showed zero interest in making a sale. There was no effort or compromises made on his part. Finally, the only choice I had was to take the afternoon from work off to look at the car I was interested in.

The man I had been in contact with was very personable when I showed up to check out this car. I wanted a no pressure, confident, personable sales man rather than a cheesy, fake, run of the mill sales guy. I got something in between. In the end, I think he was more interested in going back to his office to watch Law and Order and play with his iPhone.

Personality and work ethic aside, I liked the car. I paid for it, gave him a forwarding address for the title.  (Which wasn't mailed out to my out of state bank for 5-6 weeks. He also asked I make the 20 minute drive to pick it up rather than mailing it to my out of state bank like we agreed on during purchase.)  I got into my new car and immediately the service light came on. He simply gave me a number of his "people" to have it fixed, assuring me it just needed to go in for it's regular 10,000 mile tune up and he'd take care of it. The number he gave me was indeed a service shop however, no voice mailbox and nobody answering the phone. This service light became a check engine light, and soon the car was in desperate need for repairs. The sales man didn't return my calls or my emails and I was left to a broken car that I've had to pour over $550 into repairs for a car I owned for two months. The car still requires more work but I've since given up on asking Harwick Auto Sales for any assistance in the matter.

I'm disappointed in myself but had I seen reviews about this place I could have justified my instinct and found a car elsewhere that wouldn't have brought so much stress into my life.
