History

Established in 2009.

On Sept. 1, 2009, we purchased VW South and changed the name to Volkswagen of South Charlotte. Since that day, Volkswagen of South Charlotte has come a long way. We began with 3 sales reps and fewer than 30 cars to sell. Our detail department consisted of one person who had to use a broken water hose to wash cars! Now, we have more than 60 employees and more than 160 vehicles in stock (and we're still growing).  We are a community-centered dealership and are proud to be a part of the Charlotte area. We have structured our vales to not only serve our customers but also to serve the people living in our community. We are a proud sponsor of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. We also partner with the United Methodist Church to sponsor Book Bags of Love, a non-profit book bag distribution program. Volkswagen of South Charlotte has come a long way in a short time, and we're so excited to see what the future holds.

FYI: I did try to contact Mark C, as he suggested on his reply to my review. I called, asked for Mark C and was put on hold. The receptionist came back in the phone and asked where I was calling from, I said "I'm Kelly, Mark asked me to call regarding my Yelp review." She asked if I could hold again. I said "sure, thank you". Was on hold for 5+ mins and finally hung up.

I wasn't surprised, just a little disappointed.

Not surprisingly, my issue with my lease has gotten worse.  After the typical cut/paste "oh we're so sorry" reply from the general manager, I received a settlement invoice for over $1,000 MORE than I was told it would be at the lease turn-in date!  My previous post seems to have been deleted, so I will recap.  Two weeks ago I returned my lease that was for 45,000 miles.  (Why they sold us a 45,000 warranty and then claimed we only had a 36,000 mile lease is still a mystery, so buyer beware - they will upsell you items you do not need.)  When I returned the car they claimed my lease was only 36,000 miles so I was over 1,000 miles.  After being pressured into "understanding" how wrong I was about my lease, we left.  Today I received a settlement invoice stating my lease was only 30,000 miles and I was in fact 7,000 miles over my lease!  The return invoice is now $1,950!  Customers please understand, this dealership is going to get their money from you.  When I spoke to the finance manager 2 weeks ago he said he wasn't the person who created my lease but that he would give me the guy's name and I could talk to him about it, although that guy doesn't work there anymore.  That was a cheap shot I thought, but it now just goes along with the rest of my experience and adds to the lot of shocking turn of events.  I thought my lease was 45,000 based on all the upsells they gave me, they say the lease is 36,000 and the invoice I received says it's for 30,000.  Do I hear 20,0000, how about 10,000?!  Add to this the finance manager claims that Volkswagen of South Charlotte has absolutely NO affiliation with Volkswagen credit yet, they can easily access the system and pull up my paperwork, which he didn't do.  Interesting non-relationship there.  One final note, while I expect to receive the same cut/paste response others receive from the general manager, him actually FIXING this issue would go a long way.  And if he does so without my having to make repeated phone calls for someone, anyone at that dealership who might be able to help, I will come back here and share that experience.  I will not hold my breath, but I will have to wait on hold when I call, that I can be sure of.

The worst customer service I have ever encountered in any industry.  I ordered a part 2 weeks ago and they said it would be 2-4 days to receive and I never received a call.  Appointment times for services and oil chances are always over 1 hour late and the staff is short and rather rude.  I regret purchasing my car from here and look forward to changing brands soon due to my underwhelming experience.

VW of South Charlotte is a class act without being stuffy.  I have always worked with John Keating in the Service Department - he is easy to get in touch with, helpful, genuine and professional.  The staff and facility are top-notch.  I am the second owner of my VW CC but when I am ready to trade I will definitely try to go with VW of South Charlotte. I have utilized the shuttle service, sat in the customer area and had my car repaired or serviced there several times and always came away a little lighter in the purse (as these things tend to do) but felt that I was charged fairly and the work was done correctly and was treated very well.  I rarely give 5 start ratings to anything.  Can't think of anything they could do better unless they can figure out a way to do it free!

Purchased a new Jetta from this dealership.  Worked with Robbie Cook.  He was respectful and seemed to be pretty honest.  I felt there was a little too much back and forth on the price, but it finally worked out.  The previous VW dealer I stopped at in another area of Charlotte was horrendous....I'll never go back to that one.  Nice, inviting showroom and late service hours too.

I can only speak for the Service department as I have not had the opportunity to work with Sales.   You know you're in good hands when your Service Writer and technicians all drive VW's themselves.  John, Josh and Phil know their cars!  I have been here 2x since moving back to Charlotte (once for an oil  change and once for some engine issues) and both times I was treated as if I was a longtime customer.  My car is 7 yrs old so clearly out of warranty but they still gave me a brand new loaner so I could get to work when I dropped the car off the most recent time.  I am very particular about my car and once I find a trustworthy place I stick with them - so glad to have found that here!  Thanks guys and keep up the fantastic Customer Service!

We brought our Volkswagen here for service. Because regular maintenance is free with the purchase (even though we bought the car elsewhere), there was no charge for the 20,000 mile service. The service manager was friendly and helpful. I can't imagine why we wouldn't come back here again.

I would definitely recommend Volkswagon of South Charlotte. Kwasi and Ken took really good care of me and made my first car purchase smooth and enjoyable. Kwasi had a friendly and non-pressure sales approach that didn't make me feel anxious the way other dealerships did. Ken was very thorough in explaining all the financial info, despite my many questions. Overall, a great experience!

Had a Jetta TDI Sportwagen from a dealership in SC. Cal, the local salesperson, proactively contacted me to ask if I'd be interested in a good trade-in.
Have had all my VW's service done at this dealership, even when it was off warranty.
The staff is honest, friendly, and easy to work with.

Customer Service for Sales was awesome. Everyone was very helpful and made sure I got exactly what I was looking for. I leased a 2013 SE Jetta with the sign and go special. Absolutely no money down and no fees. My credit was a bit shot due to isolated circumstances, but the director and sales consultant were very helpful and were able to let me walk out with key and car in hand. I will pay more than I wanted to a month, but I am ok with that, especially with the quality and necessity of this car.  I am very pleased with my car and look forward to future service with them. I'm glad I chose the South Charlotte location.

Drove down here from Huntersville to see if I could get a better deal on a Jetta than what I am currently being offered by Keffer VW.  While they didn't have anything in stock that matched what I was looking for, I did appreciate both Cal, the salesperson I was working with, and Chris, one of the managers approach.  Both were very helpful and I felt like Chris was real upfront as we discussed price, even without the inventory.  

Only downer?  My god!  The traffic in that part of town on a Saturday morning.  How do you people live down there???

Me and my ol' 2002 Jetta Wagon love us some VW South. The service is quick and kind, they're straightforward on pricing and options, and when something just ain't right, they go the extra mile and make sure that they fix it 100%. Overall, I hate spending money on my car but with Mitch (my favorite tech!) and VW South, it's less painful than ever before.

This was the best car dealership my husband and I have ever been to hands down.  The sales staff is very up front with prices and they don't play games with fees, the cost once everything is said and done, etc. which you find at most places.  The service dept. also serviced my car while we were waiting for the paperwork to be finalized for my husband;s car (I also have a VW, but I bought it from another dealer).  Everyone was very friendly.  Don't go to Keffer--definitely go here.  The staff is way more knowledgable and honest.

I walked in an hour before closing on SAT and those guys still managed to get me out the door in a reasonable time with a brand new car. Staff is very professional but didn't seem desperate nor pushy. Entire experience was very pleasant and just hope that service will be as good as sales was.

Great service everytime we bring our car in. The employees are helpful and friendly. We had a great experience buying our Routan here. We test drove one at Keffer VW in Huntersville and decided not to buy it there because we didn't like the experience we had there. We live 4 miles from Keffer but drive all the way to VW South because their employees and customer service cannot be beat! When it's time for us to buy a new car we won't hesitate to buy from VW South again.

Disclaimer:  have only dealt with the service department here, not sales.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the prices here at out of control since it is a major dealership and not a local shop. But it's so hard to find a good person who knows Volkswagens, I wish the repairs here were not so astronomical.

The staff here totally know what they are doing, extremely experienced with the workings of a VW car and motor... you definitely don't have to worry about them doing a bad job. Just anticipate the big price tag that comes with that.

This location could definitely do with a little better customer service. No one who I've talked to has been rude... just not really nice. If I'm going to fork over a month's pay to you, please try to be extra polite and put a smile on your face?

I bought a certified pre-owned VW 2009 CC from VW of South Charlotte back in October. The clutch has been making a strange scraping sound in first gear for a while now, but since it hasn't been affecting performance I chose to ignore it (not a good idea). I moved to DC at the end of February, and just yesterday decided to take my car into a VW dealership in Alexandria, VA. To make a long story short, without even investigating the issue or looking in the car, they quoted me $2500 for repair and said that the clutch was out of warranty. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. So, I decided to take a chance and call VW South, the place I bought the car from, and John (in the service department) immediately said he didn't think it should cost that much and that he would do everything he could to get as much covered under warranty as possible. So I made a 6.5 hour drive south to Charlotte this morning, and after determining that it was indeed the clutch (which shouldn't be covered) they gracious enough to cover the entire thing under warranty.

This is my 4th car from VW South, and even now that I'm living almost 7 hours away, I still get the best service from them. They go above and beyond in every aspect of their business. I highly recommend them.

Just bought a rabbit 2009 from here.  Customer service was good but to be honest they didnt have to do much because i knew what i wanted.  Low miles,and good price with extended warranty for being certified used.  If i could give it 3.5 stars i would.  They were good and friendly to me.  I do feel a little more wiggle room on price with options i added should have been given since i asked and am a veteran but got zilch.  Oh well, im happy with the car.

After dealing with car guys on test drives who were overly fake and asking a lot of questions to get into my head, walking onto the VW lot was so refreshing. I was lucky to run into Ed Nava who was very nice, positive, friendly and not overbearing by any means.  He let me test drive well past closing time and patiently waited while negotiations were happening.  I drove away in a wonderful car and the excellent service has continued beyond the sale.  If you want a solid car, great service

So now I can say I'm on my fifth VW from these guys - a lovely convertible!  I found a car online that I wanted to check out, but ended up not liking that one.  The sales guy, Dominic, heard what I like in cars and when I wasn't satisfied with the first one, very quickly searched their inventory and found a great car.  

The staff here is great, from the sales guys to Chuck, the World's Most Awesome Service Manager.  The buying process was a little too long, though.  Since I now live in Raleigh, a form had to be overnighted to me when the substitute finance manager forgot to have me sign in one place.  We managed to get it done just in time for me to have an account number to make my first payment.  It made me a bit nervous, but all's well that ends well.  

I definitely recommend VW South if you're looking for a new VW or a pre-owned vehicle.
