I recently had the pleasure of purchasing my car from Auto Selection Of Charlotte. After spending weeks dealing with sleazy and irresponsible car salesmen, I was hesitant to try out a small car dealership, as their reputation has sort of been grouped into the "Buy-Here, Pay-Here" category and is more or less, "shady" to be quite honest. I had done my fair share of Craigslisting and online shopping, and this particular Toyota Yaris I saw on CraigsList kept catching my eye. After checking out the BBB and seeing that Auto Selection was accredited and had great reviews on google, I decided to give it a shot. I did an online application and within an hour, I received a phone call from a delightful young lady named Pamela. She was courtious and polite on the phone and she is the reason I initially decided to visit the lot (thank you Pamela!!!!)...
So within the hour I was on my way to do some car shopping. When I walked in the door to the small, cozy office filled with rolling office chairs and model cars on the walls, I was greeted and asked to have a seat and told someone would be right with me. Little did I know, that "someone" would be Rodney Corbitt, who is the sales manager at that location. I watched him finish up some business with a young couple and after they left he got up and introduced himself to me. From the time we shook hands, it was nothing but jokes and laughs, laced with straight-to-the-point car business. I could tell he wasn't going to try to swindle me into buying something I wasn't looking for and I was in good hands. I wasn't planning on spending a solid 8 hours at the dealership, but thats what it took to get me the perfect car.
He asked me how I would describe my credit, and because I knew that within a matter of minutes everything was going to be on paper in front of us anyway, I was pretty blunt and told him that it was terrible. So we already knew we had a battle ahead of us.. Luckily I had brought all the necessary paperwork with me (ID, w-2's, down payment, proof of income + residence).. We spent the next few hours laughing and joking and trying to find a bank who would approve me for a loan. We test drove the Yaris I initially had my eye on, however once I was approved for a loan the down payment was much larger than I could afford at the time.
Rodney asked me if I was interested in trying another car, and after some back and forth friendly banter, checklist-checking and very gentle persuasion on his part, we were on our way to their sister-dealership to pick up another car to test drive.. I was still a little heartbroken about not getting the car I came for, but when we got there, he put me in a NICER, larger, sporty lil' whip and I was pretty excited (even though I played it cool..) I ended up driving the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi around the block a few times (joyriding as we called it) and when we pulled back onto the lot I was very hopeful that I would be able to finance it.
After a lot of paper pushing by Justin ("JG") the finance manager (bless you for finding someone to take a chance on my credit!! And reassuring me how awesome my new car is, since you had one, too!) it was official, I was approved!!! I had to do some serious budgeting and money arranging as my downpayment ended up being a few hundred dollars more than I initially planned on, all while sitting behind Rodneys desk much like I myself was an employee.. (did I mention Rodney offered me his lunch? How sweet) ...and when my down payment was finally worked out, I ended up having to spend an hour working on getting my insurance..
Bless the employees of Auto Selection (especially Rodney) for keeping my spirits up, my stress level down and my laughter loud during this experience.. By 6 o'clock that day I was getting ready to drive MY NEW CAR off the lot! If you have bad credit, they are willing to work with you and they are SO patient.. if you have good credit, you'll be in and out of the door in an hour or two (I know for a fact, as I watched Rodney sell someone a car within the time that I was waiting for mine to be detailed).. I can't tell you how much I appreciated the entire staff's perseverance and friendliness, and it's not just because they wanted to make some money off of me, I could tell they genuinely hoped I got a nice, reliable car, at a reasonable price. I would suggest this place to anyone in a heartbeat, especially if you have stereotyped all car salesman as sleazy and pushy like I previously had. They are not your typical dealership! TOP NOTCH!

RODNEY: I cannot thank you enough for making my day wonderful, I feel like I spent the day with an old friend and wound up getting a car at the same time. Don't ever let someone steal your crunch and leave you soggy... You are INCREDIBLE. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
