Reviews on Suntrup Volkswagen

One day in December I went outside and started up my car and to my everlasting disappointment it decided to be pain and have problems starting. Knowing a few months before that I was going to need to go looking for a new car anyway, this was a wake up call to myself to get out there and look!

So, when I finally had a day off where I could browse at my leisure after looking online at several dealerships inventories I chose to start at Suntrup. Lindbergh seems to be one of the havens in the metro area where there are plenty of dealerships and this particular one has three of them (one down the road as well) in a row. So there are plenty of choices when you first step on their lots to chose your fancy.

I will say that when I stated looking around, I noticed that they have quite the selection and variety for any budget. After looking at several types of cars, I found the one that I took a fancy too! The salesman was helpful and full of energy when I first walked up and explained what I was looking for. He not only gave me several options that I may like and then quietly stepped away while I was looking and came back when he noticed that I had some questions to ask.

Not only did I get a car that I thoroughly enjoy but I got a piece of mind with the warranty that came with the car. Next time I am in need of a car, this will be one of the first places that I return to!

Had a horrible experience.  Manager and multiple sales people lied to us about competitor's price.  We were looking for a diesel TDI.  Told them our budget and they showed us a used car with 30,000 miles.  Showed them an ad for Bommarito which had the same car, year newer with more bells and whistles.  They said it was false advertising and that we wouldn't qualify for all the discounts.  They even said that one of the discounts was for GI active military service.  Seriously, isn't this a German company?  Anyway, went to Bommarito and got a better price for a new car than the used car they tried to sell us.

Customer service is horrible. Called everyday this week and no one answers or returns calls. Service after the sale is non existent with this company. Never again will this company get our business. I highly suggest everyone stays away from this group.

I was contacted by Liz from Suntrup and offered a free oil change for my time. No small token- my car takes synthetic! Thanks for your attention to this!

Have decided to not use them anymore after 3 years of terrible experiences from the service department.  We bought it from them and have yet to have a good experience.  We would fill out the surveys they came to us from VW corporate and give them low ratings...suddenly our email was getting changed in their system so that we didn't get the reviews anymore.

It took 5 times for them to try to fix a problem with our turbo.  Each time our warranty covered it with a $100 deductible.  After the 5th time they finally swapped the whole thing out and solved our problem.  So a $100 deductible turned into. $500 bill due to their incompetence.

Go to the dean team.

Let me start by saying that the sales team is great... The service department is another story. I bought my brand new VW here 2 years ago and have had it serviced a few times all at suntrup. I am giving them a 1 star because I've run into problems on more than one occasion. The first time I called the dept and asked to make an appt for an oil change they told me I didn't need one then I showed up and the service guys told me I did. After that I insisted on making appointments regardless of what the girls in the office said. My most recent problem happened today. I had an appointment that I made online (Never making that mistake again). I brought my car in about 15 mins early and the service guy told be it would be 2 hrs. I was waiting for it. After 2 hrs I checked in to see how they were doing and was told they were only halfway through and that the service guy should've told me they'd put all the people waiting for their cars in front of me. I was a waiter to so this surprised me which is when I asked to speak to the manager who said it looked like something happened to my entry and I'd been listed as a drop off. Their system also changed the way my car specifics were listed so clearly the issue is with their online system. Unfortunately no one was accommodating to correct the problem and here I am 4 hours later still waiting for my vehicle which should have taken 1-2hrs. Even the walk ins were serviced before me. I am beyond disappointed with the lack of service and lack of concerns the employees here show. I'd advise another service place, don't waste your time here!

I had a great experience buying a car from Suntrup.  I had some issues with the service department but was pleased that after a few phone calls, their staff was able to help and have now provided good service for my car.

Sean Riches took excellent care of me and was a pleasure to work with on my trade in for a new VW. In addition to Sean's help, his management, finance, and service teams were all willing to go above and beyond to work with me.

I had a good experience buying a Golf TDI from Adam.  He was friendly and knowledgeable about diesels.  The finance guy was great too.  I got the price that I thought was fair after doing some research.  I would recommend this dealer to a friend.

I wish it was possible to reduce my rating. Negative stars would be appropriate. When I began to read Brett's comment to my post, I was willing to overlook the fact that it took Suntrup's sales manager 2 MONTHS to respond, and that this is the first apology, or any contact at all, that I'd received from Suntrup since this mess.

But then I kept reading. And all those warm fuzzy feelings turned cold and prickly. Brett, if you wanted to apologize, sincerely, I truly would have appreciated the gesture. But instead, you used your feigned apology as a means to try to explain away the consistently negative reviews on Yelp. There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that the filtered reviews are filtered based on sound reasoning. I have flagged your comment for that reason, however, if Yelp elects to allow your comment to remain, your statements only prove my point--- customer service does not exist at Suntrup-- not no mention business ethics or morals.

I recently leased a car from Suntrup. I had a world class customer experience. Period!

I just purchased my 2nd Passat from Suntrup and could not be happier.  JD and the crew were very upfront with me and the deal.  Very clear on my trade in as well as what I was paying for my new car. They were fantastic both times.  I love the service and all of the folks there.  I would recommend them highly and will definitely by my car car with Suntrup VW.

Oh, where to begin with this one? The place epitomizes sleaze.

Andrew D.'s review is dead on accurate--if I had to sum up this place in one word, it'd be DISHONEST. Which I think might be too nice of a word. We caught calculation mistakes not once, but twice, with mysterious fees appearing and reappearing left and right.  High pressure sales tactics with salesmen getting downright nasty when their song and dance failed. Stay away.

If I could put negative 10 bajillion I would, but I have to play by the rules.  Before I jump into the negative, I want to clarify that the one decent thing about his dealership is the Service Center.  They always called back and kept me informed, going above and beyond......the problem being that after buying a new car, having so many things wrong that you're talking to them so much is a negative.

So, you ask why I hate this place with a passion?  Dishonest sales tactics, avoidance of issue resolution, and basically they are liars all the way up the chain to Craig "asshole" Suntrup himself.  A summary at best, but to tell the whole story would take 4 pages:
1.) Bought a car, usual pressure sales situation that ended up taking 4 HOURS of bullshit.
2.) Bought a 2 year old VW Passat, drove off the lot and noted no manual or cleaning done, told to return that weekend for detailing.
3.) Woke up the next morning to have a ridiculous screeching coming from the bottom of the car apparently now noticeable due to cold weather, called for appointment to bring it in and was told I had to wait a week, didn't even have the car for 12 hours.
4.) Bring in the car, no loaner available, only been able to drive it for 3 hours out of the 72 I've owned it.
5.) During service they found cracked engine manifold and 4 recalls that hadn't been done, while waiting for parts I take the car for a day and now the air conditioning is not working at all, so have to get that fixed.
6.) From there I try and question the "certified status", try and return the vehicle as it's a lemon (having to call constantly)...gets escalated to Craig Suntrup who lies to me on the phone and then ducks me for 30 days of very cordial calls just trying to discuss after he claimed he would call me back within 12 hours originally.

Apparently Craig Suntrup, who said he'd call me back with a resolution wasn't EVER in the office for 30 days when I called, as well as ignored 30 messages......I'm just going to stop here but long story short, I turned the car into another dealership to get a good one, and even that was a mess due to the warranties I had bought.  If you'd like the full story message me as it's lengthy and extremely ridiculous.

What's funny is that after all the crap I went through, I ended up purchasing my current car from another Suntrup location that doesn't use Suntrup in their name strictly because they hate the side of the family that owns this place (see West County Volvo review).  You know you've got issues when you're so bad that you're own family doesn't want to be associated with you.  DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE GUYS, there are plenty more options and while no car dealer is perfect, these guys made my life hell for 2 months and I ended up losing $1200.00 on the deal.  I wish I could put in all the detail just to convince everyone in St. Louis that they are horrible.  Just to note, I'm not the only person to have this horrible experience.
