History

Established in 1967.

Tom Wood Automotive has been a fixture in Indianapolis since 1967. Still a family owned business, we've grown to fifteen franchises and a full-scale leasing operation out of several roof-top locations in four cities - Indianapolis and Anderson in Indiana; Lexington, Kentucky and Richfield, Minnesota.

Although Mr. Wood lost a long, hard fought battle with cancer in February of 2010, his inspiring legacy in the Indianapolis community will long be remembered. Mr. Wood's philosophy is "Success is not measured by the number of franchises or locations an organization has; it is measured by the people associated with it." All of the employees of Tom Wood Automotive strive every day to live up to Mr. Wood's philosophy by making every guest a loyal and satisfied guest for life.

Reviews on Tom Wood Volkswagen

Tom Wood Volkswagen has been taking good care of my family for over 15 years. I recommend to all to request Jon Dwyer or Brian in the Service Department for any of your needs. They will become your friends after a while. Great clean facility.

Also, if you drop your car off and need to get home or to work, they offer a fantastic Free Shuttle Service where Gene Horne will take you quickly and safely. He is such a nice man and will pick you back up at the end of your work day to get back to the dealership.

I recommend these guys to my closest friends and family.

I would not recommend this dealership to my worst enemy. I test drove a 2007 Ford Explorer and was told that my pre-approval letter only covered 80% of asking cost. They wanted me to put $7,000 down payment PLUS pay $230 a month for 48 months on top of the trade in I had! Ridiculous! Clearly they we're not interested in my business. After leaving the dealership I called the finance center I was approved through and found out they were going to finance all of it! What a bunch of jerks!!

Denver was super helpful at checking me in and relaying info from the shop. I didn't like hearing that I needed two new tires, but that's not his fault. Kudos to Tom Wood for the sleek new space - especially the waiting cafe area complete with baked sweets, coffee, fresh fruit and wifi.

My only complaint/bummer: oil changes come with a complimentary exterior car wash and interior vacuum (front of the car) - - it seemed that I missed out on the vacuum portion of the gig. Such a minor complaint but! I can't tell you how much I look forward to that complimentary service :)

We traded in a 2013 ford f150 for a jetta station wagen. My ford truck was worth 2x the vw. After 8 days the finance manager called me to say he had a better deal. We drove in to see what he had to say. He said he wanted another 2000$ so our payments would be lower. He did not get the 2000$ and a few months later we left america. Good luck vultures at tom wood and the anyone who does business with them. Sad for anyone doing business with tom wood. Better off dealing with the mob.

Average dealership service.

Didn't get a call back about my vehicle service.  I called them and was told that no one on staff could give me an update.  Huh?

This review definitely needed an update since a lot has changed over the last couple of years. My review for the purchasing process remains the same. The update is for the customer service side of things.

I want to preface this with the fact that I special ordered a 2011 Jetta and before it hit 40k, I sold it and switched car make and dealers completely. The problems with the car had nothing to do with Tom Wood. The car was just a lemon from the factory. But over the course of the 9 times the car was in the shop in the 1 year & 10 months I owned it, the service department went from amazing, to amazingly horrible. I'm not sure if they had a lot of employee turn over or something, but the change was drastic.

When I first took my car in because it came from the factory with a bad alternator, they happily gave me a rental and fixed my car in a couple of days (had to order a new alternator because they didn't have any on the shelf for some reason)

Most of the other service calls were for stuff like oil changes and regular maintenance (which was included up to 40k).

The first couple of trips were wonderful. Then all hell broke loose. I asked them to fix a squeak in the head liner and it took them most of a day to remove the headliner and put it back in. They fixed that squeak, but created about 4 others.

Then there were the oil changes. I would schedule my oil changes for 8am so i could drop the car off before heading to work. The car really should have been done by about 9am since my appointment was 8am. But because I dropped the car off instead of waiting, they waited to work on it. On two occasions of dropping my car off for ONLY an oil change, they were unable to complete the work that day and I ended up getting a rental car to take home over night. Let that sink in. They were unable to complete a simple oil change within 9 hours after dropping my car off for an 8am appointment. Even then, they didn't have my car done until mid-day the next day. Twice.

Several of the times that I went in to pick up my car, they would call to have my car brought up front. I would sit and wait for my car to appear, only to wait for 20-30 min without seeing my car. For some reason, instead of pulling my car into the service bay like they used to do, they pulled my car up in front of the building and the service tech handling the paperwork and I never saw the car go by. my car sat once in front of the building where visitors park, and twice just out in their lot at the end of a row of cars for sale, unlocked, with the key in the ignition while I sat 100ft away indoors just wanting to get in my car and go home.

It's been almost a year since I switched car brands and dealer, so i'm not sure if their service department has taken another 180 and is good again or not, but be warned.

Ugh. Just.... ugh.

We bought a 2004 VW Jetta from here. After we drove it off the lot, we found multiple issues (bad battery, bad battery cables, wiring broken in the heated seats...) that weren't disclosed when we were shopping for or during the buying process.

We asked to trade the lemon in for a car worth the money we paid ($10K), but were offered oil changes as a peace offering and denied our request. Because I'm sure four oil changes equate to $6,000 of bad equity...

Recently cashed in one of our oil changes and was told our tire needed to be repaired. Against my better judgement, I paid the $50 to have the tired repaired by Tom Wood. That was three days ago. My tire is currently flat.

I was warned not to go to Tom Wood and didn't listen. Now I'm stuck with a lemon car with backward equity. I'm not the only one. Save your sanity and your money and go anywhere else. There are dealerships that are ten times better.

Terrible customer service.  I bought a used car from here last January with a GAP policy.  I traded this car in at Tom Wood Audi  last May and have been trying to get my policy refund back for a year.  Dave Dozier did not return multiple phone calls.
After about 6 months he returned one of my calls and acted like he had never heard from me before.   He was arrogant and had the nerve to imply that I was lying and that I had never left him a message.  He then asked me to send him an email requesting a cancellation of the policy.  After 9 weeks and several emails which he did not respond to as well, I had to call a manager to ask what the status of my refund was.  I finally received my refund after a year.  This dealership has the WORST customer service.  Once they have your money they do not care about you.  They obviously do not value repeat business.  I have since purchased a Subaru and Porsche from other dealers who know how to treat customers.   I will NEVER buy a car from here or another Tom Wood dealer again or recommend them to anyone.
