Reviews on Wheels of Chicago

Mike C. | 2015-04-20

These guys are horrible. They advertise "bad credit, no problem" and even encouraged me that they work with everyone. I ran my credit and they made me feel horrible. They also lied and miss lead me. The level of professionalism is not acceptable. Confidently is not there top priority. It went as far as them leaving my paperwork out for other customers to view and discussing my results with other co workers unprofessionally. I would not trust financing with this business.

Okay, well things have changed a lot since my last review.

First thing that helped change my mind was that Al, the sales manager, called me to talk about my last review. He was courtesy and let me vent to him. He promised that if I came back that he would do everything he could to make my last purchase right. His words were "I'll move a mountain to make it right". Well, with mountain moving going on, I had to at least walk in and talk to them face to face. But, I must say I went in very skeptical and with a bit of an attitude.

Second thing, that was key to this updated review, was that when I had gone in the 2nd time, Al was not in. He had stepped out for a meeting. I started to leave and the woman (sorry, forgot her name) at the front asked if I would like to talk to someone else. I did not want to talk to anyone but Al, since he can move mountains. She asked me the situation and I told her. She now understood why I only wanted to talk to Al but insisted that I give a chance to another employee there and she promised it would be productive at the very least in helping Al to get the ball rolling.

Third reason, and probably the biggest, for the change was the employee that I had gave a chance to hearing my complaint. His name is Carmelo Lugo. He was so pleasant to deal with. He listened to me....I'm going to repeat that because most people don't listen well....HE ACTUALLY LISTENED TO ME. His people skills are incredible and come only second to his insane knowledge of the vehicles on the lot that he is trying to sell. If I started looking at a car that he didn't think I would like, he would tell me the truth. Carmelo worked with Al over the phone to make things right. We negotiated a deal that made me feel better about my last purchase. I walked out with a 2004 Honda Element with only 66000 miles on it. I've now had it for about 3 weeks and no problems, it's running perfectly. I'm now a happy driver.

Even the accounting staff, lead by Maura, were incredible in dealing with, what I would call myself as, a difficult customer. Now when I walk in or call everyone seems to know me and that makes me feel good about the service I'm getting.

Of course, Mike and the guys, at the repair side of the business, are still awesome. You are being kind of foolish by not taking your vehicle to them for repairs. Trust me, as long as Mike is there,  I'll never go anywhere else again for life. The honesty is refreshing and the repairs are top notch. Fair pricing and fast service. I love these guys.

Overall, they all really came through for me and made me feel important. They took my complaint and worries seriously. Maybe a mountain wasn't moved, but it was definitely a very large hill. I'm very impressed and now can say I will return for a 3rd vehicle.

If you're buying a vehicle, ask for Carmelo. If you're getting repairs done, ask for Mike. If you need the management, ask for Al. If you need help with the accounting side, ask for Maura. These people are the best and most knowledgeable and can make things happen. A special shout out to the receptionist who insisted that I give Carmelo a chance. Great job guys.

Sold me a dangerous car as the frame was rotted, at three times it's  value. Not to mention i started having small problems the same day of purchase. Dont ever go here, you will be taken advantage of.

As I was driving down Western Ave. during a snowfall, I discovered, much to my dismay, that I had a flat tire.  I was not confident with putting on the spare myself, so I called the closest auto shop, Wheels of Chicago, which was literally across the street from my where I had pulled over to attend to my tire.  Without hesitation, they told me to come in and that they would help me change my flat tire.  Within 5 minutes, I had my spare on and filled with air.  The best part about it...no charge.  What kindness and service.  I highly recommend them.  Good people! I would definitely return for service to my car.

Extremely high interest rates! Poor customer service! Non trustworthy. Cars are well over priced. This place shouldn't even be open still. They take advantage of people. I purchased a car there last year and should have done my homework on this place. I have learned from this experience and will never make it again.

Rich R. | 2014-10-15

I bought 4 cars from here over a 6 year period
2003 Jeep Cherokee:
2006 Dodge Durango:
2001 Mercedes Benz ML320:
2005 Infiniti FX35:

All these cars had issues, some more than others. (the Jeep was a death trap waiting to happen). Factoring all the issues combined I give my experience with W.O.C. a whopping 15% success rate.

Things I don't like:
Interest rates are higher than most credit cards but since I opt for a higher monthly..err bi-monthly payment, it's a push.
They're not willing to take offers based on Kelley Blue Book/True Car info. They think every car and deal they offer is the best ever, but don't stand behind the product when the shit hits the fan.
They're not inspecting these cars thoroughly before putting them on the lot. (something comes to mind about putting lipstick on a pig)
They only stock cars 5 years old or older with high miles.
On my 4th purchase, they wanted another credit check and more references after having a near perfect payment history on the previous 3 cars. I had 3 late payments over 6+ year span only because they charged the wrong account # on file or on an unscheduled payment date.

Things I hate:
They want names of all your family, friends & co-workers; not really for references, but to put in their rolodex to call and try and sell them cars.
They install gps tracker/vehicle disabling device. Sometimes the device fails to update and ends up disabling your car leaving you stranded.
If you miss a single payment, they send threatening repo & wage garnishment emails then call all your "references".
You have to pay every 2 weeks instead of monthly.
Their reporting to the 3 credit reporting agencies is hit and miss; some months they report to all 3, sometimes just to 1, sometimes not at all.

Things I like:
EZ credit; as long as you have documented income and 5+ personal/professional references.
They called me on my birthday??

You might be able to find a diamond in the rough here, but is it worth the hassle? They offer a referral bonus of $200-$300 if you send them a customer, but that wasn't enough to entice me to refer anyone I knew to this place.

The repair shop: I give them 3.5 stars.
Sometimes they call you with updates, sometimes you have to call them to find out what's going on. If they promise your car will be ready on a Monday; be prepared to get it next Friday. They didn't offer me a loaner vehicle. Their work seems ok.

Carmelo Lugo is a very personable Sales Consultant who builds relationships with his clients. Carmelo is attentive to your needs and works with you to help you get the car you want for the best value. Carmelo makes himself available to you and wants to make sure that you are happy with your purchase.

Jay O. | 2014-07-13

This place would be a great choice if you want to overpay for a horrible car. Almost every car here is sugar coated to look real nice,  they have crazy high interest rates on cars with a ton of miles on it , also cars are extremely old, everything is over the Kelly blue book yet every sells man acts like your getting the best deal in town, I would NOT recommend this car dealership.

Helped with issues.

When I first went to wheels of Chicago I didn't think I was able to get financed but I was completely wrong. Wheels of Chicago helps everybody take my word for it I had really a really bad credit score and I was able to get my great 2007 Kia Sorento. Carmelo Lugo was my sales Rep he is great to work with he listened to me and helped me out alot. The Sales Manager Allen Levit is also a great manager and will help you out as well. I Swear if you are needing a vehicle please go to WHEELS OF CHICAGO and speak with Carmelo Lugo he is the best Sales Rep

My experiences at Wheels of Chicago have always been great. I had my 2000 Ford Explorer serviced there multiple times and they always did outstanding work. The staff there is extremely friendly and the customer service was exceptional. I liked the fact that they gave me a free loaner car and threw in a free wax/buff job on my car! I would recommend Wheels of Chicago to all my friends and family.

i just called them and found out.  i'd used this fabulously good body shop a couple years ago on my toyota, but i can't use them anymore because....

wheels of chicago is NO LONGER A BODY SHOP

boo.  they're now a dealership, but KEPT THE NAME (exact street number was 6245 n. western).  salesman on the phone said it was a profitability command decision

my rating would've been higher if i was rating what i thought i was rating

Tali S. | 2013-05-31

Where to begin?? The staff is so helpful and nice, great selection of cars and unreal prices! The body shop did a great job when I took mine
in after my accident. They fixed it up perfectly ! Highly recommend this place.

Isaias M. | 2013-04-12

Looking to buy a car ? this place is perfect if you if you feel like paying over market value on used cars that are sub par, also get high interest loans even with good credit !!!  basically if you want to get ripped off, this is the spot!!!

Elite S. | 2012-07-18

Yep...This place is as good as it gets!!!
Just finished my second service at Wheels of Chicago (WOC)!....Unfortunately, for me I had to make a second trip there; however the upside of all the hassle immediately following another accident was that I had been to WOC and was very familiar with their extremely great customer service (from every person I encountered) so of course I made my way back there.  When I arrived the second time I was greeted by Phyll Zone...who was very friendly, understanding and attentive to all my needs.  Basically, anyone involved in a car accident..regardless of who is at fault knows darn well you want the process to be a smooth transaction; well this place (WOC) honestly makes you feel a lot more relaxed and puts your mind at ease!  From my arrival to putting me in a loaner vehicle..Phyll's service was awesome.  From the time I left on that day to arranging for a rental because my vehicle was longer than expected..Phyll's service was awesome.  From the follow-up calls to keep me in the loop until I picked up my vehicle...everyone in front office--service was awesome!  And not to exclude the team of folks that actually work on the vehicles; their work is great and it is obvious that they are all caring and professional people.  WOC thank you so much!

And thank you so much Yelp for providing this service; allowing people like me to share and vent about businesses within the community.

This body shop is terrific! Although I was dismayed to have to bring my car here for 2 repairs within a short time period, but I was extremely pleased with their work. Also, as someone who does not know a great deal about car repairs, this shop was very explanatory and did not treat me like an idiot simply because I'm a girl (Lady car owners, you know what I'm talking about.).

My first repair was replacing a side-view mirror, which I had cracked.  I was initially concerned about pricing and timing, but for this first minor fix, they gave me a reasonable price, and it was completed immediately after the part arrived.

My second repair was replacing my bumper, which was cracked in a fender-bender. This was also handled in timely manner. Wheels of Chicago worked with my insurance company to settle on a good price, and I only had to use a rental car for one day because they worked so quickly. They also arranged for the rental company to pick me up before I had to go to work straight from their shop. This was extremely helpful.

The staff was also very friendly and eager to please. The office manager, Phyll Zone, was very accommodating and even gave me a free car wash after both repairs. I hope I don't have to return any time soon for repairs, but this is definitely the place to go in Chicago for body work!

I would give this place less stars if I could. I am currently trying to refinance the horrid loan I got from them. I would rather pay morefor a good car from a good dealership than go through what I have been through anymore! They have nothing but high milage, junk yard cars. Long story short they literally ducktaped the engine together. Every month I have had to repair something in this engine. They have something called a passtime so I have to put a code in when I pay in order to start my car. They did not tell me about this until the papers were signed. In less than a year I have had to have starter, alternator, solonoid, fuses, battery (and the battery platform is not even bolted down) replaced. I admit I made a stupid decision because I had never bought a car and I needed to get to school in Schaumburg. By the way that passtime kills me battery every couple of months, and I work on the Westside, so at night my car is completely dead. I cannot begin to tell you what a scam this place is. I urge you DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT buy a car from here...I am trying desperately to get out of this loan and refinance as we speak!!!!!!! (p.s. the car repair guy Freddy is an idiot I will not even take my car here to be fixed b/c they have no clue what they are doing or they are just plain lazy)

This place is the best!  I rear-ended a truck and needed some body work done.  State Farm sent me here because they are a "preferred provider" of State Farm. The manager, Hernan, took care of everything and even called the car rental place to come pick me up. For the amount of damage and the number of parts they needed to order, the service was fast and my car was returned to me on the promised day.

When I went to pick up my car, I arrived just minutes before they closed so they said they would return the rental car for me!  My car looked brand new.

The only negative thing I have to mention are the business hours.  They are only open until 6 pm and it makes it very difficult to get there after work.

Overall, if you are unfortunate enough to need body work, this is the place to go!

This place has a huge lot filled with new and used cars. They have pretty good deals and offer credit to just about anyone. But be careful, their APRs are really high! If you can get around that, then you can get a great deal on a lot of great cars at this place.
