Peter Mastro Sr. emigrated from a small town in Italy over 40 years ago and opened a Volkswagen repair shop next to the current Tampa location on Hillsborough Avenue. Through hard work and effort, he became well established and the business grew. Always thinking a bit ahead of others, he saw the opportunity that small cars offered, and bought a franchise for an unknown little Japanese car called Subaru. In the 70's, people just chuckled at small cars, but the oil crisis changed all those laughs to desire and the future for "Mastro Subaru" was set.

We lost Peter Sr. too early in 1991, just 51 years old. Mrs. Mastro and the children took over running the business and have built it to the status it has today. Mastro Subaru in Tampa will soon celebrate it's 40th anniversary.

In 2007, the Sanford location was purchased to accommodate our many customers in central Florida.

Horrible customer service. Replied to a listing online for a specific vehicle they had on the lot. After a few emails with the exact same comments and questions I realized all they were doing were sending me spam and ads and not actually responding to my questions. The Internet sales manager is apparently too inept to respond in person. Good to know there is more than one Subaru dealership out there

So I bought  my first Subaru today and I LOVE it.  The staff from the Sales Person to the Service Manager were amazingly awesome.  It was the most laid back, no pressure car buying experience  I've  ever had.  I was allowed to take my time...look around..pull up comparisons  on my phone, ask questions- all without feeling rushed.  The staff was professional, honest and straightforward.  I got a great deal on my new car and a fair price for my trade in.  The finance part went smoothly and best of all quickly.  I would  recommend this dealership to anyone  looking for a Subaru or a used car.

I bought a 2015 Subaru WRX from here yesterday. This was my 4th car that I've purchased and I have to say that this was overall the BEST car buying experience I have ever had.

My sales consultant was Brandon and the sales manager was LD. These two are just awesome. You're not dealing with people who just want to put you in a car and send you on your way; these are subaru fanatics that genuinely love cars and want to make sure you're happy and comfortable with your decision to buy a Subaru and make the deal with them. My negotiation process took all but two minutes. I never once felt pressured or uncomfortable with anything. They didnt try to play games with numbers - it was a simple transaction all around. They are really transparent in their pricing and how they do business overall.

This was my first Subaru. We just moved to Tampa and checked out a few other dealership before coming to Mastro Subaru of Tampa and these guys have won my business for a long time to come. As long as I'm living in Tampa I wont be getting a car from anyone else.

If you're in the market for a subaru by all means check out other dealerships before you come here, because when you do get here it'll be a breath of fresh air.

I bought a car here on December 1. My first new car. I was really impressed with how easy the process was, the lack of high pressure sales tactics and the level of customer service. For example, Chris young my sales person make sure that I understood everything about the car before I left. The sales manager told me that since the car wasn't properly detailed for me ( lateness of the hour, business long since closed by the time I left, no detailers on the property)that if I brought the vehicle back they would detail it and gas it up for me. It was a very kind offer because honestly the car looked  great to me.I feel that I got a good deal. I feel very strongly about the quality of the product I purchased  and this business and what they stand for and I will absolutely be back when I am in the market again for a car.

My husband and I visited Mastro on Black Friday.  We were greeted by Chris Young who would become our salesman.  He was friendly and not the typical high pressured salesperson you find at other car dealerships.  He took the time to find out what features we wanted prior to even showing us a car.  When we decided to buy, we met L.D. Mendez, the sales manager and he was great.  We went in with a pre-approval from a local bank but L.D. actually beat our pre-approval rate by 2% and he also was able to provide us with a deal that included everything we wanted.  We didn't have to to do the "back & forth" dance with him to get what we wanted.  While we waited for our SUV to be detailed, we were presented with the option to pick from a list of charities that Mastro would donate $250 to in our name.  Amazing!  At the end of our deal before we left, Steve, the finance director, brought us several unmarked envelopes to choose from and when we opened the one we picked, we won $500 in cash.  We have purchased many vehicles and without a doubt this was the easiest experience we have ever had.  I would highly recommend Mastro Subaru to everyone I know.  P.S. - Did I mention that as part of your vehicle purchase, you get FREE oil changes for life. No plan to sign up for, it's just what they do.

When I moved to Tampa from Lakeland, I was so excited to bring my 2013 WRX for service after hearing only good things about Mastro, but when I came in for my scheduled appointment they told me I had to pay for a rental while they look at my car or wait a week for a loaner. I've never been to a dealership where I've had to "make a separate" appointment for a loaner car. If so, why was I not informed prior to the appointment? Waste of time, I'll just have to drive all the way to Canon in Lakeland because my repair can't wait.

I received a call from one of the owners letting me know that they were sorry for my
experience and told me that the car mentioned below couldn't be sold because it had additional roof damage. He even said that they would be willing to do whatever they could get me into another car, but the one I wanted just couldn't be sold and another exactly like it wasn't available.

I looked at their inventory today and here is the same car. Listed back at full sticker or they did find another exact car by some miracle.

The car is listed back on their site at full sticker price...4 days later. So, the true motive for canceling my lease agreement was for profit, not out of concern for my satisfaction as a customer. Maybe I was out of line for asking for compensation for delivery a damaged car?! OR maybe Mastro Subaru was out of line for wasting hours of my time, running my credit, trying to put me in a damaged car,  canceling the agreement, and then telling me they couldn't sell the car or find one similar only to sell the same car on their lot 4 days later at full price.

Wanted to love my Subaru, but this dealer made me think twice. Thanks Mastro!


It started off good, but ended with nothing.

I spent 4.5 hours on Monday negotiating a deal for a lease on a 2014 Legacy Sport. When the night was over, the only thing left was for them to bring the car from their sister store in Orlando.

Went today to pick the car up and there was noticeable damage to the roof of the car. They offered to first try to "pop it" out and buff it...if that didn't work they said they would send it to the body shop.

The sales manager, Ronnie, joked and said it was just a lease so it was no big deal. I said I am still paying money for it, so it is a 'big deal'. What if I want to purchase the car after my lease - it has already been damaged. He said at least I was upfront about the damage. Really? So, are you not usually upfront when a customer's new car is damaged?!

I let his remark go and proceeded to the finance department. I asked if there were any compensations that could be offered since the car was damaged. Stephen (finance officer) called Ronnie back in. Ronnie asked what I thought was fair. Roof crossbars. He said he couldn't do that because they were too expensive and he already wasn't making much on the car. He then added because I was a Truecar certificate holder he had to pay them $200, which prevented him from giving me any more discounts. So, you are saying you are making me pay for your relationship with Truecar?! He offered $100 towards any accessory, which covered nothing really.

I ended up telling Stephen I wasn't comfortable signing for the car until it came back from the shop and I was able to see the finished work. Stephen agreed.

I then decided that it would be best if they were able to just find a car without damage and I would sign for that one. Stephen said they would look to see what could be done. 15 minutes later Stephen calls back and said they were not able to find a comparable vehicle and in the interest of Mastro's business they were opting to cancel the agreement. They said that way I am not upset and they don't lose anymore money on the deal. Well, they were half right.

My assumption is they are going to send the car to the shop and then sell it to someone else a full sticker price.

Quick Summary: Very friendly staff! They all worked with me through a very challenging purchase conditions. Didn't get a pressured feeling to purchase, and worked with me every step of the way! Love the free oil changes for life!

It has been a very busy few weeks in Tampa.  I'll spare you the details of the conditions around my purchase, but for context it was complex involving out of state co-applicants, with no established residency in FL and a car that would ultimately end up in VA.

Despite all of this weirdness, they were very friendly and worked with me every step of the way, being very patient with the paper work. And since I was without a car to get to the dealership they even helped with that.

Overall a great and friendly staff!

Mr. Pete Mastro Is a very nice gentleman. I had an issue with a purchase I made at the store. I was unable to resolve it in sore and was pretty upset. Months later I was made aware that he is very involved with the day to day operations. I wrote to him about my experience and he called me the next morning. He was very respectful and (even though it happened months ago) made arrangements to fix my issue very quickly. I really appreciated the time he took to look into the matter. If you ever have a problem talk to him directly. One of the best customer service calls I've ever experienced.

Initial experience was really good with one salesman. However I had to deal with the  internet sales manager, and couldn't seem to gain traction with him to get financing even though I had been approved for a vehicle loan through capital one and my credit union. Had to go through them, but vehicle was sold literally a day before I had all the "required paperwork" to get out of my other lease. Left a bad taste in my mouth and prob won't go back to the dealership for anything in the future.

I had the greatest experience ever buying a Subaru Outback from Mike Brisson and Paul Hamilton. Absolutely no pressure, was able to negotiate price along with getting top dollar for my 2006 Infiniti FX 35. If all dealers acted this way, there would not be so many negatives written about them. Mastro has to be doing something tight, to be there 40 years and still family owned. Thanks again Mike and Paul for outstanding service.
