After a long absence from driving, my younger brother was finally back in the market for another vehicle. Hours and hours of searching for the right vehicle brought us to a black 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS located at Luxor Automotive in Tampa. There were plenty of cars that were in the Orlando area, but my brother had his heart set on this one. So because my brother had to work, on Black Friday my father, a friend, and I set off for Tampa.

When we arrived we weren't immediately greeted, but that's because there were only two guys working the lot with the customers already there and they were very busy. Once they saw us circling around the Lancer they quickly asked if we had been helped as they hustled to continue shuffling cars about to get them out. I should probably mention now that the cars are tightly packed on their lot, so if you happen to want one that is in the back, multiple cars may have to be moved to get it out.

Upon first inspection of the Lancer, the exterior clearly wasn't in showroom condition, but for the price it was listed at, that was to be expected. The interior though was in great condition, save for maybe the smoking smell. Once we were able to get it out, we were allowed to take it on a short test drive. My father just wanted to make sure it ran and it did. Once the test drive was over, we headed back to the dealership.

By this time there were even more people there and it seemed overwhelming to have all these people in a tiny little office. Furthermore, my dad and friend both needed to use the rest room, but there wasn't one, so they directed us to a hotel across the street. Because we were paying cash, the paperwork process was quick and in less than 30 minutes we were on our way back to Orlando.

People may rate this dealership lower because they are expecting more, and I'd agree on some aspects. An on-site bathroom, or a little more room inside, for instance, would be a nice touch. Expecting more than this, however, would be pushing it for the price point of most of their vehicles. If you want a premium experience, you'll pay a premium price.

One thing I appreciated was how upfront they were in their comments on the cars and the process. They clarify a lot, like whether the car has a rebuilt title, or needing more money down if you have bad credit. Simple things that bigger dealerships try to hide prior to you walking in the door. Also, if you want a mechanically perfect vehicle, buy a new/newer one, and/or stay away from anything German. I've owned and been around plenty of German cars and know that they can't go more than 100 miles without needing a plethora of repairs or maintenance.

Overall, this is a classic case of "you get what you pay for", in some places a bit less, but in some places, a bit more.

Sells higher-end auction vehicles, Mercedez, Lexus, etc.

Pros -  You may well find the best deal in town here, but Caveat Emptor.  Prices are close to wholesale average condition on many vehicles ( Edmunds.com comparison).  If that were all the considerations, would give them 5 stars.

Cons - Many vehicles have noted accidents, leases, or other problems.  You have to get vehicle throughly checked by your mechanic before purchasing.  The biggest negative is how difficult this dealer makes it to do this.  They not only want a deposit, probably $500, but if they are not satisfied that the problems your mechanic finds is sufficient to cancel a sale, they will not refund the $500, but insist it be applied toward purchase of another one of their vehicles.
I checked out 4 vehicles on their lot.  One wouldn't start.  Another was a 2008 that their ad showed (and still shows as of the writing of this review) at 36,000 miles, very unusually low mileage for the year.  Yet when I looked at car odometer showed less than 20,000 miles.  When I asked salesperson about this, she said they sometimes 'overshoot' the milage on their ads.  A very unsatisfactory answer.  I don't know if odometer is broken (in which case they should remove milage info on ad) or if they are adjusting it at dealership, but very skeptical of anything they say about the cars.

Recommendation: Be sure to subscribe to and get reports from Carfax or Autocheck on any used vehicle before you buy.

BEWARE!!!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! My husband & I went to this dealership this past Saturday and it was not a great experience. The owner was late opening the lot and was rude as all get out. We got there when it was supposed to open but had to wait around for him to arrive to open. When we did get on the lot no one acknowledge our presence. The owner was more interested in chain smoking than acknowledging a potential sale. We had to go inside to ask questions about the car to the lady at the desk. In the end we wasted 30 minutes of our Saturday at an undeserving location. If you're looking to purchase a vehicle take you're money someplace else. This place doesn't deserve a dime of anyone's hard working money.
