Basically, only come here as a last resort, if you have bad (or no credit). Payments are around $200 every two weeks (on Saturdays) and if you are late with a payment, be ready for them to call you first thing Monday morning.

Back in December of 2006, I had no credit whatsoever and I needed a car so I came here. I got a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. For two and half years there were no problems and I made every payment on time until July 2009, when my car overheated on a desert road on the east coast. A man stopped to help and poured water in the coolant tank but it could only go a couple of more miles before I called Geico to send a tow truck. I had some repair work done a month prior on the intake manifold gasket leaking coolant. There was a class action lawsuit against GM for this and it wasn't Drivetime's fault, but the tow truck took the car to a mechanic in town but they couldn't fix it, so the original mechanic back home sent a tow truck there to get it but he couldn't fix it either. This caused me to fall behind on my payments and DT called me, not every single day but sometimes two or three times a day.

The good news is that I eventually caught up and only used my car to get to and from work since it was 5 miles away. The bad news is that I had to put water in the coolant tank and the car made a rattling noise every time I pulled out of my driveway. And it sometimes would threaten to overheat. And Drivetime couldn't or wouldn't do anything about it until the following April when the car totally died on me and they let me trade it in under their DT Champ Program. By then I was probably a few months away from paying the Malibu off.

I upgraded to a 2004 Saturn Ion and paid it off last November using a bonus I got from work. To ensure they wouldn't lose the check, I overnighted it to them and required a signature to get proof they got it. Within a couple of weeks they sent me the title and that was it.

In summary, stay away from Drivetime unless you absolutely have no other choice.
