Reviews on Esserman International Volkswagen

Hector F. R. | 2015-02-14

I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan on my 4th tour and am in a search for vehicle on-line before I am home.  I have contacted other dealerships in Miami on-line and have been provided EXCEPTIONAL service.  Not only were all my questions answered, but most went above and beyond to assist me with my search.
This brings me to today.  I went to your website to inquire on the GTI and began an on-line conversation with Darrell Sheftall, who provided the worst customer service thus far.  None of my questions were answered.  Terrible customer service.  NOT professional.  He should not be covering the on-line chat as he is clearly no where near having the essential skills as the others.

I've had my VW serviced here several times, and this review applies to all of my experiences here. They are a VW certified servicer, so you can be sure they will fix your VW the right way. This is where the compliments stop, however, and why I gave it two stars.

They charge too much (but then again, they are the dealership) - specifically, from 200% to 300% more than other auto shops in the area, which provide competent service but aren't VW dealers. Also, the customer service is really lacking. Simply finding out when your car will be ready will result in several phone transfers, messages being taken and multiple calls. When they do call you, they dont have all of info you need - like how much the repair will cost. Lastly, they take way too long to service the car. For the prices they charge, they should really be working faster and providing better customer service.

PROS: Will fix your VW the right way.

CONS: Will cost you a pretty penny, will take too long, and will not give good customer service.

Call me a masochist but I went back..
While the speed and attention was pretty standard across the board there was one detail that made this visit stand out... Read on..

Back in October I started having car trouble again. My faithful VW was sputtering and stammering frequently and I finally had it looked at in my local tires plus. The Tires Plus guys did some leak tests and found a crack in the intake manifold. They quoted me $900+ parts and labor for the repair.

Frantic I started to look for other opinions. Naturally, I called a VW specialist who pointed me to a service manager in Gunther VW. The guys at Gunther were friendly enough but were quick to quote me at over $1000.

Here is where Esserman comes in. I called and ask to speak to service looking to get a quote for the service. The first guy I got heard the words "GTI crack intake manif-" and told me about a repair extension (not a recall). He assured me he would get it covered. I was floored!

Still a little uneasy about my previous experience with Esserman, I called another VW dealer and inquired about the same repair program. No one had a clue! I looked the program and found a reference to it in a forum but no official documentation. What else could I do? I headed to the Esserman dealership.

The service advisor that I spoke with on the phone was there to greet me and assured me that he had me covered. I requested a loaner and after pulling a few strings he got me one. Sure enough the damage was covered. While performing the service he called me to offer me a cleaning of the valves & sent me before/after pictures. Phenomenal work from this guy!

Esserman still won't be my first choice.. They haven't won me over just yet.. But I will definitely go back to have service performed with this guy.

I came because my service is due, they told that I had to wait 3 hours , one of the ladies didn't want to help me out when I was asking something , she said she doesn't know anything. When I ask Volkswagen if I can do my service on any dealer they say yes but when I get here they say no, that is just the first 2 services. But why if it's already included on the lease ?

Kareem S. | 2014-12-14

Horrible! Avoid at all costs! This dealer will make a deal and take your deposit only to refuse to honor it when you pick up your new car.
The Manager Manny, was extremely rude and inappropriate. Had to pay an extra $500 to take my car off the lot after they wrote on my offer that this certain fee was waived.
Overall this reflected poorly on my experience and forced me to go out of my  I recommend Gunther VW Fort Lauderdale or Deel VW in coral gables.

I brought in my Kia, which I also purchased at this dealership, to be serviced. My car will randomly not start. When the ignition does not turn, I have to shift out of park and then back into park to turn the car on. This dealership took my car for a drive and stated it worked just fine. That is great that it worked fine for you guys but I will probably continue to experience this issue. My check engine light also turned on around the same period when this issue began to occur. This dealership needs to install a new piece into the car to turn off the check engine light. I dropped off my car Friday at 2:30 specifically stating that I am leaving it for the weekend because I cannot be without a car during the week. No one contacted me Friday or Saturday. Finally Saturday at 5pm, I call to inquire about the car. The male receptionist was completely rude. I ask about the vehicle, he says service is closed. I tell him I need my car and if he can find out what is going on with it and before I finish my sentence he puts me on hold. Then he begins to call the tech who took my car and other dealerships. Really I am not sure who he called. He contacted about 3 different numbers. Finally someone answers the phone. I tell her the situation and she contacts the tech. He thought that I was leaving the car for the week. Makes no sense since what was done with the car probably took 10 mins. I am also informed that the piece they ordered will not be there until Tuesday and I have to bring the car back. I purchased my car in March. Maybe because I purchased a use car and this is why I received such horrible service? Who knows. I know I won't be recommending this dealership and unfortunately I have to go back to have this piece installed. Let's see how long that will take.

I go to Esserman to service our Acura only for recalls.  Thet do a nice job of evaluating needed repairs under Salie our assigned rep.  However they are too far away from our home in Miami to use regularly.  They proposed a very high cost for the tires they recommended we needed.

Robin O. | 2014-09-25

Last week, Jose Jimenez said "escoge el carro que te gusta y encontraremos la manera." 24 hours later, with Jose & Ozzie's help, I drove out in a beige convertible bettle that I absolutely love. Gracias Jose & Ozzie por su buen servicio. I'll definitely refer friends and colleagues to Esserman.

The service was great and it was definitely faster than I expected. They serve coffee and doughnuts in the waiting area so that's always a nice perk :0). They also have a shuttle service that takes you up to 7 miles away.

Been going here for several years - and even decided to stay with VW for my next lease because of the service I get here.

All you need to know is ask for Bismarck when you get your car serviced.  He goes above and beyond in his work... and you end up feeling like you're the only person he has to pay attention to that day.  Been requesting him for years through two different car leases at VW.

Getting two different leases here was incredibly painless.  For my last car, I walked out in just a little over an hour.  No back and forth power struggle... they're real and get you what you need.

Amanda T. | 2014-06-19

I not only bought but have taken my Jetta for service at this location every single time. The service is always great and super fast. They have a waiting room with couches and tables as well as a T.V. and they even offer iPads for entertainment while you wait. They have coffee and water always available and doughnuts in the morning which is a nice touch. They set up appointments as early as 7:30 a.m. and are open till late as well as on weekends so I am always able to schedule an appointment to fit into my busy schedule. They offer courtesy car services for free as long as you book it in advance so that they are sure to have one available. If for whatever reason they don't have a courtesy car available they also offer a shuttle service that will take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius. I usually deal with Danny since he has been my service provider since the begining but this time I dealt with Joe and he was extremely nice as well as helpful. I will continue to bring my car here since it is so convenient and accomidating.

Sarah C. | 2014-05-17

I leased my first car from here in July 2013. I could not be be happier with my experience in every aspect. I love my car (2013 Jetta) and the customer service here is exceptional. Bismark Guerrero has taken care of my service twice already during the initial 30-day service and during my 10K service. He is always happy to help, explains exactly what they worked on and is a pleasure to deal with. The waiting room has coffee, donuts and even iPads available while you wait. I don't mind waiting since they are also very efficient. It's nice to know that I'm getting my money's worth. Looking forward to leasing with them again in the future.

Anyone will tell you that taking your car to the dealer for routine maintenance is (unless it's under warranty) grossly overpaying.... well, not so fast.

I checked around to compare the prices (for routine maintenance) with other service providers in the area, and by and large Esserman's Service Department is very reasonably priced. They even beat some of their competitors when it comes to basic services like oil and filter change, routine maintenance (mileage based), and customer care.

Are they the least expensive when it comes to auto repair? No... plain and simple sometimes the dealer price can be as much as 15-20% higher than some other local shops. But, you do get what you pay for. In South Florida, where your car can mean the difference between getting to work or collecting unemployment, it sometimes is a necessary investment. I have brought my car to Esserman's ever since I purchased it, and have not been dissatisfied with their attentiveness, service or warranties.

Keep in mind that I am a diligent consumer and don't just compare price.... I factor service, warranties, and follow up customer contact into everything. Plus, at Esserman's if you schedule your maintenance ahead of time; you can get a loaner for the day - at no charge. What other repair shop will do that for you?

Here's a tip - Your service advisor can be a fountain of information and keep you up to date on specials and rebates.

Caitlin M. | 2014-02-21

Just got a 2014 VW Beetle from Esserman and had a great experience! Rayner Holmes helped me out and was very attentive and professional. I recommend working with him to everyone! Definitely will be going back to Esserman for all my car needs!

michelle z. | 2014-01-29

I don't know what i'd do without this place. Well actually, I don't know what i'd do without my service manager Joe Benitez. He helps me out all the time. Joe explains what is up with my car and doesn't make me do a bunch of unnecessary services so that I stay broke. I call him anytime I think something is wrong with my car and he gets me in asap. This place makes me happy, they accommodate my crazy schedule and always make sure I get where I need to go whether it be by shuttle or loaner car. Anywho I love this place!

carlos s. | 2013-12-20

Everything was great as usual. Bismarck is always very attentive, professional, and courteous. This is my first lease with Volkswagen and can't wait for my new one because of Bismarck and the service I receive at Esserman.

Thank you!!!

mike p. | 2013-12-19

How refreshing! I live in Cutler Bay which is a bit far from this dealer, especially considering I have South Motors about 5 minutes from my house. I sought out another dealer b/c of poor, rude and incompetent service at South Motors (both for my VW and my Honda).

I decided to try Esserman and it was a great choice for my 20k mile service. Fast, efficient, professional and knowledgeable. I am very happy to recommend them.

Musen L. | 2013-12-13

no bad. fast and reliable

Remy L. | 2013-12-08

Went for my 70k service. They did it again. Impeccable service, great relationship with Bismarck my advisor. The way I see it: my advisor never pushes to perform an actual repair but rather advises and recommends. He's established a solid trustful relationship. Their lounge is at good as it gets. They now provide you ipad to browse the web while you wait, Dunkin's coffee and a wonderful couple offers homemade pastries. It's not too close from where I live but I'll happily return there.

Hassle free maintenance means so much. Thank you Bismarck!!!

Sonia G. | 2013-08-27

Have taken my 2011 Kia Soul to the KIa Esserman twice fro regular maintenance and have been very satisfied with the results. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they actually take as long as they estimate. Great area to wait inside if you choose. Highly recommend them.

Ligia M V. | 2013-07-20

I'm always satisfied with the service I receive at this dealership. Although it's far from where I live, I keep coming back.

Alina V. | 2013-07-03

I have been a proud owner of Volkswagen for the past 5 years. I have never had anything less than extraordinary service at Esserman which is why I will probably continue to do service with them. I've had the pleasure of having Bismarck and Peter as my service directors, not only are they professionals but they seem to really care about customer service. Thank you guys for your continuous hard work!

Tatiana A. | 2013-05-29

The service and staff was excellent. The service representative who assisted me, Bismark Guerreo, was great. He was professional and clearly cared about my issue. I will continue servicing my VW at Esserman International VW.

My personal experience with this particular dealer, we love VW but they (VW Dealers) fallshort at the dealer for maintenane.  Sad to say that even though this guys are trying to ripyou off, they are probably the best compared to other vw dealers in SF (sad but true) they informed me i needed new brakes when the car was only 1 year old and blamed it on my wifes driving style, here we are 4 years later and i just replaced them, while the car was under bumper to bumper the tail light went out and they refused to cover it,yes its small but i paid 80 dollars to have a bulb changed while under bumper to bumper warranty, and make sure you keep all receipts for anything you do to the car outside the dealer, the service manager tried to tell me the warranty was voided because i did not change the air filter at the dealer as per the book, I showed the receipt that I had done it myself (are you kidding?) For an air filter the dealer tries to void your warranty? All of this over a period of 4 years, they really try to take you for a ride on the maintenance, he also recommended on 2 occasions to change the oil more frequently than the manufacturer suggested, I told him hell no, the warranty is good,if I stick to the book and the car has synthetic oil are you crazy its not regular oil and does not need to be changed as he was suggesting. If you just do as they say and spend the unnecessary money then you will be happy if you know a bit about car maintenance be very careful with the service department, TRIED the other 4 dealers in south florida and nothing better.  VW never again, you purchase a German Car, and by the time they are done with it, it's 80% made in Mexico, yet they charge Mercedes rates.

Matthew O. | 2013-05-09

I took my VW into Esserman for the 30k mile service. They found that all the tires were worn on the inside do to defective alignment.  I have owned many cars and know that tires like this should last much longer than 30k miles.  The car's alignment was clearly off from the factory and the service advisor would not fix the alignment under warranty.  This arrogant punk treats customers like they are idiots.  Not only do I recommend staying away from Esserman, I recommend avoiding the Volkswagon brand in general.

Rider R. | 2013-05-09

Joe Benitez always goes above and beyond to make sure my service is exceptional, I always return to this location because they have excellent follow up and most importantly treat you like one of their own. Highly recommended for service or if you are in the market for a new car.

Oyrana M. | 2013-05-06

Great customer service, pleasent staff!

Sarah S. | 2013-04-17

I have been coming to this location for about 8 years now. The team that runs this place know what they are doing and have definitely made me feel like I have an extended family. My service advisor since day 1 has been Joe Benitez. He's always available when I come in and is detailed oriented, always making sure that my needs are met. I would recommend this location for anyone looking for a new car. & I highly recommend current VW owners try out this location for servicing.

BTW... they recently added express services that don't need appointments :) This makes me  very happy.

Jason C. | 2012-11-14

The service department at Esserman is among the best of any dealership with which I've had the pleasure of doing business, thanks in large part to Bismark Guerrero, with whom I deal exclusively.  His attention to detail, discipline, and timely way of doing business allow me to happily keep our two Volkswagens, one purchased elsewhere and one leased at Esserman, in top running condition.  I recommend Bismark and this dealership without reservation.

Youry T. | 2012-11-08

Great experience, I came in for an oil change and the $34.00 they charge it's very much worth the price because you have the peace of mind that it's done by an Acura technician and they also clean your car inside and out (almost by itself worth the $34.)  Julian Alvarez was my service adviser, he was very professional and informed us of the progress of the work while we waited in a very comfortable waiting room with complimentary coffee, sodas and snacks.  The battery was not retaining the charge and Julian came and informed me they were going to replace it 100% free of charge, because it was under warranty.  I will recommend anyone to buy an Acura at Esserman International and have it serviced there.  Thank you and keep doing a good job...

Eduardo O. | 2012-09-04

Proper service, and quality work!

As part of my continuing series of car dealership reviews, I stopped by Esserman Volkswagen to take a look at the CC Sport. A salesman greeted me at the door and was friendly and very knowledgeable. No complaints about him. The car on the other hand, not impressive. It seems to me they wanted to put extra "features" in the car to raise the price without actually being competitive. From my perspective, the car is it's own sub-class; but this review isn't about the car.

The CC was right there in the lobby and I hopped right in to try it out. Unfortunately, it was rather close to closing time so the salesman was wrapping up and ready to leave. Yeah... I know... I should have gotten there earlier... but I was too busy (in other dealerships).

Bottom Line: Not good. Not bad. Just average.

Stephanie M. | 2012-03-08

My letter to the manager IS my review: 0 STAR RATING.

Dear sir,

My name is _______, and I am (or was) a customer at Esserman VW. I'm writing to inform you of my latest experience at your dealership and how life threatening it COULD have been.

Lets start from he beginning.

About a month or two ago, my car, a 2009 Jetta, came to a complete stop as I was pulling into a parking space at my office. The car gave me no heads up, it just stopped, while on drive as I was driving LUCKILY at no more than 5 mph). Since this had never happened before, I immediately took it into Esserman to be looked at. This concerned me because WHAT IF, god forbid I was on the expressway, and the car did the same thing...

When I took it in, the service guy, Danny, informed me that the software needed updating, and that this is why it had stopped. I expressed my concerns to him, on how dangerous this is. How can a car just come to a complete stop?? That's VERY dangerous! THAT CAN SERIOUSLY INJURE SOMEONE.
He agreed, and told me not to worry, that the software would be updated.

Perfect. They do it. I pick up my car.

Fast forward to yesterday:

I'm on the 826, on my way to work, driving at 60 MPH, and the car comes to a COMPLETE HALTING stop. The battery light turns on. The guy behind me swerves to not hit me. I turn on my hazards, people are swerving, honking, I turn off the car, turn it back on, and continue.

I was sooooo nervous, I had to pull over.
I was almost in a TERRIBLE ACCIDENT!

I call Danny. I tell him I'm on the express way, and the the car has stopped.
He tells me he will call me back....

30 min pass.

I get to work.
No one has called me back.

She informs me I should call VW roadside to have the car towed to the dealership.
I follow her instructions.

At around 3 pm, Danny calls me back, and informs me my car is ready for pick up.
I ask him what was wrong with the car.

This is our conversation:

Danny:   Ms. Muller, your car is ready for pick up.
Me:  Danny, what was wrong with the car.
Danny: Well, we checked it, and looks as if the software we installed last month was the wrong one.
Me: oh...
Danny: We gave it to another technician, and he caught that. And Updated it wit the correct software.

ME: so, this is your dealerships mistake. I almost died today, and now I'm afraid to drive my car, because the last technician, installed the wrong software? What if something had happened to me, I could have sued you guys!

Danny: yes, but we fixed it now.

I write this letter because it is VERY CONCERNING that the wrong software is being installed. If this happened to me, how many others are at risk or danger?

People's LIVES are at RISK! People with families and children! This is something that needs to be taken VERY SERIOUSLY. Your dealership could be at fault AND liable if something terrible was to happen!

Thank GOD nothing happened to me, but it could have... And we have to realize that if it can be prevented.., the 5 extra minutes it takes the technician to check his/ her r work makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE AND MIGHT SAVE SOMEONE FROM AN ACCIDENT.

I have decided I will no longer drive that jetta, my lease is up in 2 months and I have contacted someone at Gunther VW to get me out of my lease and into a new car. I am terrified to drive a car I once felt comfortable in.

Also, I will no longer take my car to this dealership for service. This is not an "ooops" mistake, like: oops I forgot to put windshield washer fluid in your car. It's a SERIOUS mistake that could have hurt me.

I hope you understand, and that you take this as serious as I did yesterday.
I will be picking up my car from service at some point today.

Thank you for your time,

Sara L. | 2012-02-04

I have had hit or miss experiences with the Essermen service department.  A few years ago, they were great, I had a really wonderful service rep who has sense left and since then it has been one bad experience after another.
November, 2011: My first replacement representative (Allen I believe) acted very arrogant, and made a number of offensive remarks.  What's worse is that he quoted me a price of $300-$400 for the 80,000 mile check up over the phone and when I brought it in the in morning, but when it was all complete, the total was over $1200!  I had left my friend there who was waiting for my car so I did not get an explanation of the costs until a few weeks later when I made it back to the shop.  I expressed my discontent with the pricing and the huge difference between the quote and the final price to the manager and nothing was done to resolve my upset.  Additionally I received a coupon in the mail and when i asked to use it, neither the attendant or the manager would accommodate me in any way.
Jan 2012: The next time I went back, I had a different rep who I asked over the phone to give me an idea of the costs associated with or what might be the problem if the check engine light was on. He briefly explained the potential problems to me but did not provide any quotes. I brought the car in and I asked again about what he thought the costs would be.  At this point he told me even to look at the car, it would cost an hour of labor ($110), which he did not tell me over the phone.
I am NEVER going back to Esserman, I feel I have been completely ripped off and the representatives did nothing to appease me or my requests.

Natasha Q. | 2012-01-01

This is the first place I went to when inquiring about a 2011 Jetta (I ended up buying it elsewhere, so you already know where this is heading)!

The gentleman was nice that was helping us but would not give us a decent price! Every idea I would suggest (I did my research), he'd basically throw it out! Then he wanted to appraise my car and I told him several times, what for-- I'm not sure if I'm even interested in your offer!

Needless to say, they had the Red Jetta w black interior that was hard to find so I still gave him a chance.

The following day, I went to VW Deel (Gables) and got EXACTLY what I wanted. My turn in was payed off; I payed ZERO down and for affordable monthly payments. I didn't get the color I wanted... Because I am loyal!

Once I was finalizing te deal, gentlemen from Esserman called me and said he'd match whatever they were offering me. At that point, I was not going to have the sales rep that did help me accordingly lose her deal just to go back to Esserman to negotiate.

In summary, I don't recommend this location if purchasing a VW.

Yani C. | 2011-11-16

This place has horrible customer service! They actually wanted us to sign and agree to a price before even being allowed to sit in and/or test drive the new VW GLI we wanted to buy. The manager gave us some poor excuse, saying that it was too risky for Esserman VW to have clients test drive the VW GLI. The manager also has a terrible attitude and was very rude to us.

I will never step foot into this dealership again.

Krystyn P. | 2011-09-21

German engineering means really expensive to repair. Any time I have to go get repairs done to the beetle I just kind of grit my teeth and deal with it. This is the first place where I feel like they're actually trying to take care of me, and I'm not getting ripped off.
Their service department is thorough, prompt, and courteous - and courteous is what sets them apart from everyone else. They took my car at the last minute, gave me a loaner for several days, and fixed things correctly the first time. I recommend working with Joe - he's definitely the best car service person I've ever encountered!

Caio S. | 2008-12-07

The dealer use the follow advertising:

"ESSERMAN ADVANTAGE: 40+ Years in South Florida. The Dealer that is here to serve you!...In addition, our extraordinary commitment to excellent customer service and satisfaction ensures that we will exceed your expectations with every visit. We stand behind this commitment with our hearts and souls."

But in the real life it's not like that.

Great cars and good prices.

3 weeks ago I went there to buy a 03' VW GTi, and because I really like the car everything was so fast. I talked to Alvaro (Internet Manager), after with some sales guy, I drove the car and after I went to do the paperwork.

But because was too late, around 7pm, I couldn't get the car at the same day. All right, I did a U$ 500 deposit to hold the car, and pickup the next day.

But I changed my mind, and since this day I've never seen my money back. I'm talking with everybody there, and all the time they have excuses. This manager took 2 weeks to say: "I'm sorry, but I'll do your refund, I just need a copy of your ID, Credit Card and the receipt". So why He didn't say that at the first day I called?

My credit car bill already came and I didn't pay, because this I have interest in my next statement, and I'm thinking to sue this messy company. I'm really disappointed, and I'll never do business there again.
