Reviews on CarMax

Never have I ever bought a car with such a seamless process!  The sales consultant AJ is the best in the business!  The title area and servicing is area is impeccable!  My BMW is classic and perfect!

This is the only time a car commercial has ever been true.

I worked with Jay and G(ordon) and had the easiest car purchase ever.  I negotiate and haggle with people all day long, so it was nice to have an experience that was truly "what you see is what you get."  If you don't think a vehicle is worth the money they have on the tag, they work to find you one you do like.  It was that easy.

Every car I buy from now on will have a Carmax name on it when I leave the lot.  My folks even bought a car from them after my experience.  There is no better place to go than Carmax.  Period.

Wonderful experience, would definitely buy here again.  No pressure, they worked around my schedule, very easy going yet also professional.  I'm very happy with my car. It was refreshing not to have to deal with high pressure sales people and yet still find the car I wanted at a good price.

I purchased a vehicle from CarMax on December 6, 2014. After having the car for

two weeks I noticed there was a vibration coming from the tires and a vibration

when I used the breaks.  I took the car to my local tire service store and was told

that my back two tires needed to be replaced due to lack of tried.  The previous

owner did not rotate the tires on my car. The technician also inspected the breaks

and stated that the rotors were warped. The rotors according to the manufacture

are too thin to lath so they need to be replaced.  I paid $42.80 to have my tires

balanced and rotated.  I decided to inspect the car to check everything else out on.

The air filter for the engine was never changed and the in cabin filter was extremely

dirty.  I went to the local auto parts store and purchased both filters and replaced

them it cost $25.02. I called CarMax and spoke to the service department. The

service rep told me that all cars sold have a 30 warranty and to just bring it in. I

agreed and brought in my car. The service rep called me later and told me that the

tires on the car are good according to CarMax standards and the braking issue they

could not replicate. The service rep did say I can be reimburse my $25.02 for the

filters but not for the tire balance. I left the car dealership upset and disappointed.

This situation makes CarMax look bad especially since all I was asking for is to have

issues with my car fixed that have to do with safety. This car should have been

inspected prior being put on the lot. So now I am left with an unsafe car.

Worse car buying experience ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought a van from them and within just a week of me having it I noticed something was not right. So I contacted The service manager and expressed my concern of keeping this vehicle with this issue that they just could not seem to diagnose. He assured me that they would take care of the problem. After months of dealing with the same exact issue that nobody could seem to figure out I ended up having to sell the van back and found myself upside down a couple thousand dollars. Which all could have been alleviated if the store manager and the service manager would have taken my concerns seriously to begin with. They did not look out for me as a customer whatsoever.  at that point I was kind of stuck so I had to sell my car back and re-purchase another van through them. I really regret going to them to begin with I walked in with a fresh clean slate not upside down on my car whatsoever in by the end of this whole ordeal found myself $2500 upside down.again I expressed my concerns to the store manager and service manager with in the week or two weeks max of owning the first vehicle they should have taken it back right then and there instead of having me drive it around for months telling me that they were going to fix the issue. they had my vehicle on four separate occasions for no less than two weeks at a time the last time they had my vehicle they kept it for three weeks and said to me as they returned it back to me that the issue was fixed and they drove it around an extra week just to make sure that everything was fixed. As soon as I pick up the car within 30 minutes of me driving it my check engine light starts flashing again. Which gives me the impression they were just blowing smoke up my butt how can you drive a car for weeks and nothing happens yeah I drive it for 30 minutes and it comes right back on.  Buyers beware !!!!!!!!!!!!!   I regret the day I stepped foot on that car lot !!! The sales associates are very nice but are puppets !

On a 2011 Nissan purchased at #CarMax with #MaxCare, the clutch went up 2x in 5 months, the first time within 30 days.  The clutch wasn't covered under #MaxCare but it was replaced.  #CarMax offered to "work" to replace the car by offering only $10K for the car that had a balance of $15,500ish owed after 5 months of car payments.  So, in 5 months #CarMax about $4,500 after the #MaxCare refund, was lost.  BE AWARE, negotiations are easy at #Carmax because the prices are significantly overpriced.  Also, watch out for #CarMax financing.  The interest rate charged on a 700+ credit score was over 10% in a market where a 4% rate should have been available.  Yes, there's no haggling because they are just upfront that they are taking advantage of you at the get go.  Congratulations #CarMax, you just made money on a young dad who didn't have $5K to throw away.  Had they worked more effectively on a "swap out" this review would have gone a whole lot better.  So much for customer loyalty.  Thanks for your support #CarMax.  I'll be sure to spread the word.

It was my first time purchasing A new to me car from a dealership. I have always had the impression of car salesman being so shady but we had the most amazing experience ever at car max with A guy named Nick. He guided us in the right decision in the car that best suited us. I wanted something that was way more expensive but he realized in the end it really wasn't the right fit for me and guided my husband and I in that.  I cannot say enough good things about them....

on oct 30,2014 i was called by Evelyn in the service dept to inform me that my car was taken to Chrysler for repairs and that parts had to be ordered and it could be next week before work was completed, when i informed her i wanted my car back for the weekend and i will take the car in myself to chrysler when parts come in, she informed me that car max had to take car to Chrysler not me, i reminded her i bought the car outright, i did not finance and as the owner of a 2014 w/less that 7k miles still under warranty should be able to have my issues taken care of with Chrysler, she informed me Car max was paying for repairs, when i asked why, since its under warranty  i was told its because the  remote start feature on this car was not on this car like it was advertised to me, it was even on the sticker on the window, so i was mislead at time of sale,
i am not happy, and the 13k replacement car is a clunker
the salesman Tony Ramas did not return my call or the general manager about this matter, and i have been talked down to by the service desk receptionist for the last time I've asked for the car to be available for me to pick up today,

Went here today to get my vehicle appraised since we are looking to downsize.  Great customer service!!!

This CarMax has been AWESOME! I have been working with Robert and he has been so patient with me, had my car of interest in transit before I even came in to meet with me. I was very uneasy about getting financed & he got me a loan, high interest rate but I'm building my credit. I am currently waiting on the vehicle to be delivered & I will be taking it home in a few short days!! If you're in the market for a vehicle, go to CarMax on blanding and ask for Robert!!! He will take awesome care of you!!!

Enjoyed my car purchase but service after the sale is horrible. I have taken the car back 3 times and they cannot get the repairs done correctly and every time I take it in they keep it for over a week. I have finally given up and will take it to my mechanic.

I was basically told the priority is new incoming cars not cars that have already been purchased. So they are only interested in new sales not in current customers.

Bought a car and the warranty.  At first they did well, but now we have the car making a loud whistling noise and they had the car for 6 months trying to fix or repair it. They took it to Chrysler and did work on it themselves and in the end, they gave us back the car and said " we can't fix it,, good bye and good luck, so sorry the noise is driving you crazy and embarrasing"  I would never buy a car from them again and warn all my friends to do the same.

Went in here looking for a car to transport my father-in-law around in and capable of carrying his wheelchair. The staff were very helpful and friendly without putting on a lot of sales pressure.

Took my car in to sell.  Appraiser broke my convertible roof.  Management denied any fault, and corporate backed them up.  Worst customer service ever.

The location is right on car alley.  It is convieniently located directly off blanding boulevard. If you don't find what you want, there are choices nearby.
The facilities are new, as they just opened. Expect excellent when it comes to presentation.
The selection of cars is consistent. They are extremely helpful in helping you find the right one.
Very busy area. So much it can make test driving stressful.  I live in area, so I am accustomed to the traffic patterns.  Not the dealerships fault.
Overall, I liked the place and a possible place my next car will come from.

I have purchased 2 cars from Carmax.  I really like the no haggle policy - either you agree to it or you don't.  It really irritates me when sales people take you through all that hassle of talking with the the manager crap.  Yes, I have often found cars that I really liked on other lots but I do not find any joy in haggling over prices only to find out that later that you still got taken to the cleaners.  Yes, I have heard that you can often get better prices at other dealerships, and that's fine if you are willing to haggle to get to that price -  not me! Looking to purchase a new full size truck at this time, and the first stop is carmax.com !

11/18/2013 Actually purchased at Mike Davidson's Ford!  Better price.

A friend of mine recommended this place right off the bat when I told him I was looking for a car. I'm glad I came to check it out.

I agree with Frederick about browsing online before walking in. It really helps in narrowing down your choices. They have a lot of great cars to choose from. I love the selection they have of compact and mid-size vehicles. Plenty of Honda Civics, Toyota Corollas and Camrys, and Ford Focuses. I've test-driven a Mitsubishi Galant here before.

The cars are fairly priced and you don't have to deal with the up-pricing they do at regular dealerships. The only down-side is you can't haggle the price down, but being able to decide on your car purchase with a clear mind is worth the fixed price.

The salesman was very knowledgeable about cars and helpful in answering my questions.

(ps.. it's the day after Halloween and somehow this review has the mark of the beast...wth?)

We have sold a number of our old vehicles through Carmax, and always appreciated the no-haggle, no-pressure approach they use.   They appraise the vehicle and cut you a check, period.   It is usually within a few percentage points of the Kelly Blue Book, some cases a bit higher but most a little less.   But the lack of a headache or haggling is such a huge plus.

Yesterday we bought our first car from them and the entire experience was a genuine pleasure.   Our Sales Associate, Britt, was a young, highly educated, well-traveled woman who is pursuing her medical degree but also happens to love cars.  She led us through the entire experience, with absolutely none of the high-pressure, sleazy tactics that we had encountered at other dealerships.

We walked in expecting merely to test drive a couple cars with the intention of buying after the holidays.  Two hours later, we drove off with a 2010 Kia Soul which was one of the cars on our 'wish list'.    By buying slightly used, we were able to save approximately $3000 off the sticker price.

I do recommend browsing the cars on their website first before you go, since they can often freely transfer specific vehicles from other CarMax dealships within a 250 mile radius.
