I thought this would be a good experience but now I am rethinking my decision.  I bought a rent to buy from Hertz.  I rented the car, got a loan from the bank and came in to purchase the car, it was slightly more then I thought it would be so I wanted to take the purchase order to my bank and just finance the rest without anyone running my credit twice.  I was informed at the dealership not to go to the bank because they would take care of it from here and they worked closely with chase.  The next day 3 INQUIRIES hit my account from financial institutions I never authorized them to use.  The question here is (if you are talked into signing a paper with lies, does that make it right?)  Now I have 8 inquiries on my credit report and it is one of the factors hurting my credit.  Stay away from this dealership they are not truthful.  Get a loan from your bank first and walk in with a check if you must.

It's sad that it's come to this because there were a couple genuinely helpful people at this location.  This is my first review on Yelp ever.  This experience has been so frustrating that it's come to that.  I'm gonna start with the pros, because it's a short list.

Great prices on cars, way under KBB.
Not everyone there is terrible (Mark was friendly and helpful)

Basically the entire experience
Cars are not in a "refurbished" condition, they are as-is, meaning you will inherit any outstanding maintenance issues such as battery, tires, etc.
Undisclosed hidden costs
Terrible customer service

Booking the car online was easy and frustration-free.  From there it just got worse.  I picked up the car at Firefly car rentals which is affiliated with Hertz.  As someone else mentioned, they do NOT let you know the condition of the car.  Luckily the only major superficial problems were a couple paint scruffs on the door handles which could be easily fixed.  Furthermore, they do not tell you the full cost of the rental beforehand.  The website said i would pay 240 dollars, only to arrive and find out they would charge my card with a 400 dollar hold.

The employee at Firefly "couldn't find" my rental in their system, so I had to wait about 20 minutes for them to figure it out.  He couldn't answer any questions I had because they weren't actually Hertz.  So I got the car and left.  

A day after taking the car the battery died.  I got a jump and thought it'd be fine from there, that perhaps the last customer left the stereo on or something while the ignition was off.  Wouldn't that have been nice?

So I went through the whole hoop-jumping process to buy the car.  This time I had to go to the Hertz car sales location here in San Diego to finalize.  A woman there was really unpleasant and unfriendly.  She tried to throw a wrench in the gears because my cosigner didn't want to be on the registration.  It really wasn't any of their business because it's between me and the bank, but anyway... she argued with my cosigner and was visibly combatant.  Luckily the manager and Mark got me squared away by just ignoring her.

So after going to Firefly, getting a jumpstart, to this Hertz location, then to my bank and back to Hertz over the course of a couple days, which was an inconvenient process in itself, I finally signed the purchase and turned over the check.  

I got the car to drive for Uber.  I had more problems starting the car after taking it home.  AAA told me the battery needed to be replaced.  I called Hertz, and they said it's not covered under their in-house warranty.  So I purchased a new battery.  $120  All's good.  Except when I went to get my inspection for Uber.  I forgot to check the tires beforehand and had them measured at 3/16" tread which is just about the time you should replace them.  So I had to get new tires.  $400.

Now all that wasn't even the worst part.  The worst part is here I am, about to pass the 1 month mark since I signed the purchase agreement, and Hertz still has not refunded my Rent2Buy deposit.  And the sad thing about that, is that at one point they had held over $600 on my card.  They held the original $400 initially, then charged me the cost of another rental again.  Then they released the initial charge minus the extra $160.  Then that $160 was released a few days after handing over the check.  So they still have $240 on my card.  That charge then gets released, and anticipating pay day in a couple days, I use it for some expenses.  Two days later, my bank account's balance is -$240 because Hertz finalized the original transaction that I thought had been released.  So when I got paid, I only had about $200 that week.  Over the next 2 weeks, I talked to multiple representatives who ALL TOLD ME THE SAME THING: that the funds were released and I just had to wait 7-10 business days.  But it did not seem that way to me.  My bank statement said that the charge was finalized, so I KNEW that there was no alterations coming.  Guess what?  After 10 business days, I call Hertz AGAIN to tell them that I received no reimbursement.  Their rep AGAIN told me the SAME THING and tried to end the call with me.  I had to call my bank and get a rep on the line to tell them that I had not been reimbursed.  This employee then tells me that she has to forward the issue to the Processing department.

WHAT??????  Why wasn't that EVER done when I called before?  Ok.  So I wait a few hours, and I get a call from Hertz telling me that the readjustment NEVER PROCESSED AND I'D HAVE TO *AGAIN* WAIT 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS for my $200.

And through all this, with the extra expenses and false holds, I cannot buy as much gas to drive more and make more money.  So, yes, while the car is thousands below KBB, I'm also losing money because of all these problems.

I decided not to leave it up to Hertz to give me my money back since they are clearly incompetent.  I called my bank to dispute the charge instead.

MANAGEMENT SHOWED UP AT MY HOUSE AFTER THE SALE TO DEMAND MORE MONEY! HARASSING PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS AFTER THE SALE TO DEMAND MORE MONEY! CLAIMS SOLD TO ME AT THE WRONG PRICE! These people wrote up the paperwork themselves, signed it, and then after the fact they start threatening me and intimidating me at my residence. I think it is gross misconduct from them to come to the home of the customer without permission or warning, and in such a hostile manner! Randy K, the Manager himself of this location, along with a salesman, Brad E. thought this was appropriate action because they want to cover their butts for not doing their jobs right in the first place. They expect me to cover up the mistakes they made on the job!

As management was leaving they said I am "the reason the world is messed up the way it is..." and numerous personal attacks and insults on my character and professionalism for not being willing to personally finance the harm they may be under from upper management for signing the car away at the wrong price.

Now I have to fear that these unprofessional Hertz Car Sales thugs could show up at my house again, I have to worry they might try to damage my car, or otherwise sabotage my peace or happiness.

Coming from a company, (rental car company), that systematically looks to overcharge and rip people off on a daily basis, It is funny how they don't want to accept any losses. It Hurts with Hertz!

Also, this place is understaffed. It took me 4 hours to buy a car here, and I was already pre-approved for credit.

Lastly, the car they sold me had numerous problems. Don't trust their "70 point inspection". It was probably done by a used car salesman. My car has a dead battery, only one of the two $300 key-fobs for remote entry, and feathered tires that needed replacing (expected cost would be over $900).

You'd be much better off buying a car from a private party. I'd avoid these entitled unprofessional car thugs like the plague.

Had a  great experience here! The whole staff is awesome, I felt like I could trust them and they were being genuine and honest with me. Special thanks to Sandro for showing me a gazillion cars and being patient with me. Also thanks to Brad and Randy for helping me close the deal after many failed attempts. Buying a car with you was like family experience. You guys are great, thank you :)

Just terrible.  Reserved a car at least two weeks in advance, only to tell me the day before I was supposed to pick it up that it wasn't ready.  Claimed the previous renter wanted to keep the car longer.  Likely story!  I wanted to evaluate the car over the weekend and now I'm back to square one.  Stay away!

Came here on 12/23/14 with my husband and Ive got to say this place was absolutely wonderful. Our budget was pretty low and our credit wasn't that great but they worked with us and weren't pushy at all like you would expect at most car lot sales places. Brad was our sales man and he was great along with Bill the finance guy. We managed to get a beautiful 2013 Mazda3 WITH Skyactive technology for $11,990! That was even better than Car Max who was offering a 2009 Mazda3 Basic for the same price but with much much more miles. For anyone looking for a used car I would stop here first before anything.

Came onto the lot two days ago.  
First impression: clean, not an overwhelming amount of cars and a lot of different makes and models to choose from.

My salesman was Brad. He what straight to the point with me about everything. Listened to my needs and kept all the cars we looked at in my price range. But the best of all, he didn't pressure me AT ALL.  
I was actually looking at a car above my price range and he reminded me to remember what I can afford. How awesome! Sometimes I get too excited and need to be put back on track haha.

So initially I was looking at a white 2013 Chevy Cruze. The price was 12200. Out of my range.  I wanted to keep it an option, if the payments were low enough for me. Brad discussed numbers with his boss and came out with great news. The car was actually 11200! UH AWESOME!
They offered the extended power train warranty which was out of my monthly payment price range. They worked their magic and made a few phone calls, thus making it all- with the power train warranty- in my range!! I was so happy.
It's going on day three with my Cruze. It rides beautifully, very clean.  There were a few scratches.. But I went to the Chevy dealership and got some touchup paint. About $20.
Also, I did notice a small crack/chip in the windshield and took the car back to have them look at it.  They gladly, with NO hassle, offered to fix it.  I'll be getting it fixed within the next week.

All in all, my experience here was awesome. Brad is so cool. Not one of those salesman who put on a front.  
One thing that made me feel comfortable buying here was that all the cars were rentals. They were all previously serviced PROPERLY and most, if not all miles are highway miles.  

I would recommend this dealer to ANYONE and EVERYONE! My coworker already expressed to me she will be coming here after she gets her tax return! Be ready, I have a lot of people I'll be recommending!

Hate shopping for cars when I haven't bought one in almost 15 years. Visited this lot because they had a varied selection of car manufacturers/models. Shandell told me to pick out a few and then drive them -- nobody hanging over you and you can just walk around freely.  Drove 4 different cars and ended up deciding on a 2013 Jetta Sportwagon with low mileage. Shandell really made it smooth and easy -- very pleasurable working with her and she makes every effort to make sure you're satisfied. All the people there were very friendly and helpful and it wasn't a tormenting experience.  Fair, no haggle prices and the selection is constantly changing.

This is the BEST car buying experience ever!!! You can't beat the prices or the service!! Shandell is amazing, she got me the car I wanted/needed for an amazing rate!!

From now on I will be purchasing all my cars from Hertz, you can't beat getting a car for under KBB price. They literally sell you the same car you would buy at a dealership for 3000 more!!!

I haven't bought a car since I was 15 years old, and even then, it was from a private seller.  My Jetta has since crapped out, and I had been searching for a Hyundai Elantra for a few months before I started to notice Hertz cars on Autotrader.  I reserved a Rent-to-Buy Elantra at the Hertz near the airport, and good grief, was that car beat UP!  Scratches, dents, you name it - with no mention of damage whatsoever on the website.  Terrible experience from the car to the hectic atmosphere to the crappy associates who didn't want to give me the time of day before, during, or after I checked out the car.  I called up Mark at Hertz Car Sales out of frustration, as I had been connected with him at some point during the reservation process and I knew he had other cars available at the lot on Kearny Mesa Road.  He told me to head up to take a look at a couple Elantras that they just got in, and it was smooth sailing from there!

I settled on a titanium 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS with the help of Mark, with no pressure whatsoever and little to no haggling needed (to my family's dismay, who tagged along to help me get a deal).  Honestly though, the price was right and I loved the car the second that I saw it.  Mark, Brad, and Randy were all a part of the process and they dealt with my indecisiveness with nothing but laughs, which I actually appreciated.  I was in and out (with all the DMV paperwork done too) in less than 2 hours!

One warning though for those of you who are not a fan of resprays: they respray the back bumper of every car on their lot.  My respray was TERRIBLE (different color and flat finish) and they offered to send it back to get fixed up, which was a few day ordeal.  Ultimately the spray job is much better, however I don't know about the quality.  Somebody tapped my back bumper yesterday and the paint peeled right off like nail polish - AWESOME :P  Apparently the paint needs about a week to set properly, and it had been 6 days, but whaaaatever.  I also don't think the people doing the touch-up were too happy about doing the job a second time, as they got silver paint smudges all over my dark gray interior.  I'm going to have to hunt down some paint remover that won't destroy the finish.

Overall though, great experience that ended with a big hug after Mark brought my car up to me in North County after the respray.  These guys are awesome and really will make you feel at ease throughout what should be a stressful process!

All I can say is I am so happy for Hertz being the last place I went for a car. Went to about 6 other dealerships and they were all the same. They pushed, pressured, rushed, and didn't listen to what I wanted. I was just about to give up until I saw the great prices of Hertz in Kearny Mesa, so I thought why not just go to one more. I went in and met Brad which I had spoken to before and he was amazing from the start. Told him my budget and what I was looking for which was Kia Soul and he showed me a few in my  price range and after falling in love with the 1st one he showed me we test drove it- let me go on my own without pushing me and when I came back I told him I wanted it. We crunched some numbers and unfortunately my bank had some hoops I had to jump through to get my car and thankfully Brad and Bill had patience and time. They made me feel like I was their only priority. Long story short after being very overwhelmed and in tears because of my bank AND insurance- they kept saying don't worry we will get you this car. And that's what they did. I'm now an owner for a Kia Soul that was such a steal- and there was absolutely NO PRESSURE, or hassle with Hertz thanks to Brad & Bill. I really think everyone should at least take a look at their cars before going anywhere else- that's my only regret that I didn't go to them first! But I saved the best for last!!

This is the place to go when looking for a car to buy. I'm 22 years old first time car buyer and this was the most painless, helpful car buying experience anyone could ask for. Everyone I came in contact with at Hertz was not only helpful but well informed. I worked with a wonderful women named Shandell...now before I move on let me pause here. This. Women. Is. Absolutely. Amazing. She's knowledgeable and sweet, not pushy at all. She helped to find me the best deal for my credit compared and contrasted all of the cars I was curious about . I just do not have enough positive things to say about her, all I know is Hertz is very lucky to have someone like Shandell Winderl on their team.  The whole experience was fast, easy, and convenient    Bill got me set up with my financing after finding me the best APR possible and I was driving away in my new car in just a few hours. If you are looking for well maintained used cars with helpful friendly salesmen and women then you need to make your way down to this lot!

I had been watching Hertz car values for some time in anticipation of needing a new car when my child turned 15 1/2.   Then I had an accident and needed a car right away.  I immediately went to Hertz because I don't believe that you can find a better value on late model cars than Hertz offers.    I came by several times and looked at a lot of cars before deciding.   While this would surely annoy most sales staffs (and perhaps it did), they were very patient and helpful and never made me feel like I was being a pain to them.   They offered a test drive for any car I was interested in and were never pushy or obnoxious.   I found a car that I like, fits my need perfectly and was thousands less than I what other local dealers would list the car for.  

I'm quite pleased with my experience at Hertz Auto Sales in San Diego and thanks to Michael Santana for being a great salesman.

We were pressured into buying what ultimately was the wrong car for us by a sales person not well-versed in minivans.  The problem is they are not specialized and have too many different types of cars to become well-versed in any of them.  The sales person (Mike)  was also really biased based on looks of the car, and ultimately persuaded us to buy a car that isn't right for our family.  So we called the dealership back 2 weeks later to see if we could come back and buy a $8,000 more expensive car instead, and if they could work with us a bit on the "trade-in" value so we wouldn't have to take too much of a hit.  I spoke to the General Manager, Randy, who promised he would see what he could do and get back to us the next morning.  We NEVER  heard from him again, even after calling back and telling them multiple times.  He never even had the decency to call us back with a simple "sorry, I can't really help you out". We were all set to spend $8,000 MORE (so a total of $23K on the new car) and he never even returned multiple phone calls!  We feel totally scammed by these "stereotypical" USED car salesmen!

I had a very pleasant experience with Hertz Car Sales in Kearny Mesa, two weeks back when I bought my car from their dealership. Luis Pino is a great guy and a nice sales person. He was very patient and let me take my time to go through the car lot to look for the car I wanted. When I finally decided on a car 3 days later, Luis and his team helped me get the paperwork done with ease. Hertz Car Sales is the way to go.  I knew what kind of car I wanted prior to my visit and they had three of them on site.  Luis greeted me as I walked around the lot and helped me compare the car I wanted with a few others similar in style.  I ultimately chose the Hyundai Elantra and decided to buy the one of them.  

Apparently this car is a hot ticket item and the three sold before I could be finalized on a loan.  Luis then drove up and swapped cars with another Hertz Car Sales dealership and brought down a Hyundai Elantra that I had been looking at 100 miles away.

During a hangup with my loan, Luis was very helpful and would check-up with the bank for me so that I did not have to be inconvenienced.  He even stayed after hours the day my bank finalized the deal so that I could get the car that day.  

The car has been riding well and is in great shape.  I am quite happy with my purchase through this dealership.  Since each salesperson does every aspect of the car buying process (selling the car, writing the documents, contact with the bank, etc.) they have to be on top of their game.  Luis is great for the job and will help you find your car.
