Reviews on Salem Auto Sales

I bought a car at Salem Auto last month on March 17, 2015 and a day after the check engine light turned on and bunch of other things in the vehicle started breaking down, such as the convertible top and one month after the engine broke down. Now I see all of the reviews and these people have a big reputation on finding out what's  wrong with the vehicle and then they patch it up and sell it right away before the car breaks down in their lot. They don't even use real names that way it's harder to Sue them, these guys think just because it is sold "as is", that they can get away with these things. A car should not be having all of these problems within less then a month. Welcome to America guys, this is FRAUD and I will see you in court. God bless you! If any of you think this is not a real case please message me and I will be more then happy to send you a picture of the evidence that I have and after I Sue them I will go public with this on the News. These guys do not know who they are messing with.  I Got this!

I have bought two cars from them and very pleased with the service, the harass free shopping environment, their prices, and if you know where you stand when buying a used car, not one from kelly blue book or fresh of the factory, this is the place to go, They helped in both of my car loans and I got 6.99apr for my car which was lower than golden one credit union offered me. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Salem Auto Sales cannot be trusted. Please take my advice and learn from my experience. In December 2014, I purchased a 2006 Mazda from them. I did my due diligence on this particular car and pulled a Carfax. I noticed that the car had been to the Sacramento Mazda Dealership (Maita Mazda) several months earlier, and asked Roger, my salesperson at Salem, what it is they did to it. Roger replied that it was just their standard inspection, and that the car had passed. I then asked to see that work order/invoice and he replied that he did not have it in his file, and since it was Sunday, he would not be able to get it until the next day. I proceeded to test drive and inspect the car, negotiated a price that I thought was fair, and purchased it later that day. I had driven from the Bay Area twice to inspect the car, and was pleased with the process. I thought I had found the "diamond in the rough" used car seller... After repeat calls back to Salem to get the Maita Mazda write-up for my records, I finally decided to contact Maita Mazda directly. The service manager was kind enough to look up the work order, and what he told me shocked me. He then forwarded the work order to me. Salem Auto Sales had placed a used engine in the vehicle, and had purchased it at auction with a burnt-out engine. Salem's own mechanic had installed the engine, but when the "check-engine" light went on, they brought it to Maita Mazda. Maita Mazda, after removing the engine front-cover, made a diagnosis and informed Salem. Salem chose to NOT have Mazda make the repair, and took the car back, after satisfying the $390 bill. They then must have fixed it themselves. I was very disappointed in this turn of events and shocked that I had been lied to -- Roger told me it was a simple inspection, and it was a "smoking gun." The fact that I specifically asked about that service, which would have alerted me to the fact that I was NOT buying a car with the original engine, and was then lied to, is FRAUD. I understand the concept of selling a car "As-Is." However, that concept does not extend to omitting a Material Fact, especially when you have to lie to do so. This is bad, and should tell you everything you need to know about Salem, but it gets worse... Two weeks after buying the car, it started leaking oil. Not a little, but about 30 drops per night. I called up David Naber, the owner of Salem, and told him about my discovery of the used engine switch-out and that the engine was now leaking horribly. We agreed that I would take it to my local Mazda Dealer and get it diagnosed. I did so, and they discovered that whoever had taken off the front cover and effectuated the repair that Maita Mazda had NOT been allowed to make had absolutely butchered the car. They had literally used a crowbar to pry off the engine cover, used non-Mazda parts that had to be soldered into place, etc.I decided that it was not appropriate to bring the car back to Salem for them to have another cut-rate mechanic work on the car, and I had Mazda go ahead and repaired the damage and re-install the front cover, at a cost of $1,345 and eight days. I made that $1,345 claim of David, as a form of a settlement for him omitting a material fact when selling the car to me, and he declined to do so. He also would not provide any paperwork on the used engine, so I don't really know what I own, nor can I sell it. I am now in the process of taking Salem to Small Claims Court. Wish me luck. I know that everyone has a horror story about a Used Car Dealer. Now I am just another cliché. I gave Salem a chance to do right by me, thus avoiding me needing to "flame" them like this, or take the time to file my claim. They declined and they must hope that people don't pay attention to Yelp. I suggest you pay attention.

These guys are awful! I feel a responsibility to warn anyone against doing business with these crooks. I feel sick to my stomach about doing business with them. The car they sold to me was more than 1k overpriced. Also, a week after I drove it off the lot, I needed to put $966.54 dollars into it in repairs. He was also nice enough to sucker me into signing up for overpriced insurance which he probably got commission from. I needed to get the brakes, serpentine belt, thermostat, and much more replaced. I hope that you will stand strong, for the ethical purpose of not allowing people to be so shady, and down right mean to their customers. Choose not to do business with Salem Auto Sales!

Me and a couple of my girls friends got swindled by the men running this dealership. I bought a 2006 Nissan Altima, when we left we knew we overpaid. I paid $8000 when the kbb was $6400, but i was still happy to have a reliable car and not have to worry about it. Until i took it to the mechanic and had to pay around 300 to get 3 engine mounts replaced & a new battery, I still thought no big deal its fixed now, its still a good car! When the mechanic finally fixed the mounts he told me the WHOLE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS RUSTED, it was so bad the rust crumbled to the touch
! When i called them to see if they would work with me (assuming they didnt know either) he automatically remembered exactly who i was and my car and said i signed a paper saying they told me about the rust! so they knew the whole time and covered there ass by slipping the paper in while i was signing all the rest! THEY ARE SHADY! i deeply regret not going to yelp before i bought the car!

These guys had me drive four hours for a classic bait and switch scheme.  They had the car listed on a reputable site so I called to ask about it and asked if there were any problems and they said no come on over.  2 hour drive there and they said it was a salvage title and they would make me a great deal or they had another new model for a few thousand dollar more.  Then the guy tries to blame it on me, avoid these guys if at all possible.

Very happy with my recent car buying experience. Good car, good price, good service! Couldn't ask for more at a used car lot!

We just bought a great car (Saab 2003 convertible) here & got a good price and good service. We found David to be very friendly, honest, trustworthy & fair. He even handled minor repairs recommended by our mechanic.

I had a great experience buying a car from Salem Auto Sales. I live out of the area and contacted them regarding a vehicle they had posted online. I would definitely recommend them to friends and would buy from them again.

Wouldn't buy anything from these thieves.

*Crappy unreliable cars
*No customer service.

I bought a 2002 Chevy Cavalier from them a month ago. BIG MISTAKE!!! This piece of crap has so many problems that weren't disclosed to me when I got it, but Fadi and David sure as hell did tell me that if I had any problems within a month, I could bring it back... This wasn't the case when I actually tried to take it back. They told me it was my fault for not bringing someone with me who was more educated in car shopping and my contract states that there are no returns and the car is "as-is." When I asked him why he didn't tell me that when I bought it, he told me there was no way to prove he DIDN'T tell me that but he and I both know that he didnt. DO NOT do business with Fadi and David at Salem Auto Sales... They are SO nice when you buy but lie to your face and God forbid something go wrong with your car.

You won't go wrong by getting a car at SAS. I bought a commuter car there recently and am very happy all the way around. There was absolutely no pressure, no bait and switch, the car was as advertised on the website, financing was easy. Then a few days later I had a significant issue with the car; they're used cars so sometimes this happens. I expected a fight when I called but David, the owner, was exceptionally generous and helpful and went far beyond my expectations in handling the problem and making it right for me. I'm a fairly jaded and cynical person so his response was a pleasant surprise. I'm very happy with my car and even happier with how I was treated as a valued customer even though the car I bought was far from the most expensive car on the lot. I got champagne treatment for a beer price. I look forward to buying more cars from David and SAS.
