Reviews on Tucson Volkswagen

Just went to Larry H Miller Volkswagen to take advantage of their "Service Xpress" no appointment necessary oil change service which is advertised on their website.  The service technician asked me if I had an appointment and I said "no," I didn't think I needed a appointment.  He asked "Who told you that?"  I told him the website advertised your Xpress service!  He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about.  Anyway, I decided to make an appointment because arguing with him wouldn't get my oil changed.  While standing by the customer service desk making my appointment, I see a huge banner right next to where the guy was sitting advertising their "Service Xpress - No appointment necessary" which I promptly point out to the tech who made some excuse that "if it was a normal day, they could have taken care of us."  It's a Thursday at 2 pm, what's not normal about it???  I have one more free oil change and then I'm taking my business elsewhere.  I bought my Passat here, but I won't be doing anymore business with this dealership.  You would think that a place that makes most of its revenue in the service department would have better customer service and not use deceptive marketing practices to lure customers in.

Worst experience. I'm including the email I sent in this review.  I was angry when I wrote it and I didn't want them to have any misunderstanding as to what exactly led to my not buying a vehicle from them. They never read it. I work nights and asked I not be contacted by phone, only email, but as they hadn't heard from me(except for this email I sent) they started calling me during the day two days in a row to try and close a deal. I told them I was t interested, and bought a different car but they continued to call. I had to block the phone number. Here's the email:

I bought a car from a different manufacturer. Thank you for your time David.

I also wanted to let you know, that our experience was very poor as a result of your sales manager. He was very rude. He insulted us for looking too many times (we looked twice), implied that we couldn't afford the car, and although David and I repeatedly told him that this was to be my car, he continued to speak primarily to my husband David. To top it off he told a long pointless story about baseball after we both admitted that neither of follow, nor care about baseball. This was not a "baseball euphemism" story with a lesson, it was the rambling of someone who likes to hear themselves talk.....at 8pm. He made sure we knew that he has a BMW and that it affords people to assume he's a VIP. He was insulting and demonstrates himself as an insidiously unaware misogynist, as he also insulted his wife's taste in cars, to a female buyer, blissfully unaware how awful it made him look. It was a very awkward and uncomfortable experience for both David and myself. And frankly, it soured us on Volkswagen. After talking with him, the Passat went from first choice to last. He really made us question why we wanted a new car in the first place, which was actually very helpful for us. We realized that owning a car for image and performance are superfluous, as your sales manager demonstrated quite effectively. If we had decided to buy a Volkswagen, we would have gone elsewhere based on your sales manager alone.  Again David, we appreciated your time.

The salesman was fine(he and my husband are both names David), but he was the one that ended up calling me at 2pm which is the equivalent of 2am for most people. So at the time of this review I'm not too happy with him either. Especially since he clearly didn't read my email which was sent as a reply to one he originally sent to me. Yeesh.

Great place to buy, but service dept is slow and unreliable. Had to take my car in twice for something simple, then they never called to tell me they were done. I had tried to reach them a few times and there was no answer. Never wait, you will be there for a looooong time. Chapman is bad too, we just don't have good service in town unless you go to European auto but then maintenance won't be covered.

Just got a VW at another dealership in Tucson which still had its factory warranty on it, so they suggested I bring my car into a VW dealership.   I'm so glad I brought it over here!

Alex in the service department is awesome!  He saw I was super excited with my new car, and made sure I was taken care of.  He went out of his way to check on my vehicle's service history, and saw that the 30k maintenance had not been done yet.  Since the warranty had only 4k miles left on it, he suggested I do this soon and if I had the time, they could do it that day.. Luckily enough, I did have some time, and just wanted to have my car in tip top shape and not have to worry about it for a while, so I opted to do it right then.  Might as well, right?  Plus, maintenance was free because it's still covered under the warranty.

As I waited in the lobby, another guy came by, wish I remembered his name to give him some props too (he may have been the service manager), and explained to me the other services they offered in the service dept just in case I needed anything else in the future.  Services such as courtesy vehicle or pick up/drop off when servicing your car, and early morning or late night drop off of your car if needed.  These guys are tops!  Very helpful, friendly, and professional. Even the salespeople around acknowledged that you were there by just a gesture of saying hi with a smile.

After an hour my car was done.  Upon leaving, Alex & his staff welcomed me to the Larry Miller family and wished me well with my new car.  Very nice, even though I had not bought my car with them!  But I tell you what, I think they'll have my business for years to come!

I would have had no problem purchasing a car through Tucson Volkswagen. Unfortunately, another dealership ended up having exactly what we were looking for, so it didn't work out, but Tucson VW was great overall.

We were looking at a specific car posted on their website and it said to fill out a form to get a special web price. We did that, but the email we were sent from a web sales representative gave us the exact same price as was listed on the site. We emailed them back, pointing this out, and asking for pictures, since the web only had one stock photo. No response.

We decided to go over to the lot regardless and worked with Gary, who I would highly recommend. VERY nice guy and low pressure. Took several for test drives, but it came down to not liking the colors available.

Gary and the used cars manager offered to keep their eyes out for us, so that was nice, but we found the right car the next day elsewhere.

I'd say the downsides would be the website mixups, lack of email response, and no photos on their website. But the dealership is brand new and the staff was very friendly and accommodating in person.

You know, almost a 5-star experience.  And no, I don't take that lightly.  One star off for some initial confusion getting information about the vehicle I wanted to purchase.  I'll admit, it seemed odd--I felt like I was having to pressure a salesman to sell me a car.  Wasn't this a Superman story?!  Once that got cleared up though, Tucson VW worked incredibly hard to find the exact vehicle I was looking for.  This was not an easy task since I was very specific on getting a 6-speed TDI Jetta SportWagen.  Specific as well on the options and color.  Although I expressed I'd be willing to wait for the vehicle to come from the factory, they searched within their network of dealers and found MY car in Colorado.  Due to the issues with the initial experience, they got the car sent down here to meat their cost.  Respectable.
Using USAA's car-buying service, I secured a price that was perfectly reasonable and honored by the dealership.  No need to haggle over the numbers for me!
Still, it is a car dealership.  So be ready for the push on add-ons.  No one suggested undercoating, but the "deluxe" versions of the warranties were heavily pushed.
The only other qualm I had is that they said they'd leave me a nice VW hat on the driver's seat.  No hat.  But they promise I can have my choice of complementary hat when I return.  That will be soon enough as all new vehicles purchased here (or at any VW dealership for that matter) come with complementary scheduled maintenance for up to 3 years.
Aesthetically, the dealership is very clean and modern, with a great old-school bug on the floor (not for sale!).  The staff are friendly, but again, they are car salesmen.
Last bonus point is that Tucson sales tax is not applied here!
I'll update this with reviews of service once we bring the car back, but overall, I'm pretty happy about a dealership for the first time in my almost 40 revolutions around the sun.

They let me buy a car that wasn't even officially for sale yet. However I don't necessarily believe that per their advertising that there is no negotiation on price. The first offer they brought me was too high and I said I couldn't afford. They had used the trade in price on my lease for the full payoff amount including tax. My sales rep went back to the finance manager and suddenly that amount dropped and payments were affordable. Turns out, since the lease was being turned into a dealership they don't have to pay the sales tax, just the residual on the car. So they were able to suddenly trim about $1,200 out of their profit. Then when going over the extended warranty info, also said I'd like something lower and suddenly he then had a 'client loyalty' price for me since it was my 4th VW. Why didn't they offer that price to start?! So that's why they lost 2 stars in my rating. The car itself is great, and they have followed up on all the things they said they would. Wendy in service is great and my experience with their service department has been easy and I'm quite pleased with that service.

I couldn't be happier with my experience with Shea Gaffney and the whole team at Tucson Volkswagen. I feel like I got a great deal on a car that I absolutely love. The purchase was straightforward and honest, they really worked with me to finance the car with a payment I could live with, and I drove away a happy customer. I cannot recommend this dealership enough.
